"Director Sheila Freed says last year the company (Avel eCare School Health) provided around 40,000 virtual visits. She says about 25,000 of those were for students with Type 1 Diabetes." At Avel eCare, we support rural communities with school nursing coverage to K-12 schools to ensure immediate response to student needs. Many times, these needs are helping to manage chronic health conditions such as Type 1 diabetes. "[Kristy] Landenberger says that knowing that her daughter and the other two students with Type 1 Diabetes at the school have access to a trained professional puts her mind at ease." We are proud to partner with Louis L'Amour School and other schools throughout the nation to make sure each school has the support of a licensed nurse, ensuring every student's health needs are met. We'd like to congratulate the Arrowhead EMS Association in receiving a $5 million Federal grant as a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets For All (SS4A) initiative to improve post-crash care in rural communities. As a part of Minnesota's NorthEast Advancement of Rural and Remote Emergency Medical Services (NEARR-EMS), this program will provide a total of 15 agencies with our EMS telemedicine services. This will connect Northeast Minnesota EMTs and paramedics with our board-certified physicians, paramedics, and nurses for peer-to-peer support in the field or during transport. "EMS teams have longer distances between EMS hubs and few-to-no nearby specialty centers available, resulting in increased response and transport times. We believe our NEARR-EMS program will help rural communities make the most of extremely limited resources," said Adam Shadiow, MBA, MEP, Executive Director, Arrowhead EMS Association. We look forward to this new partnership with Arrowhead EMS Association, and our continued partner in research, The University of Minnesota, as we work towards significantly reducing patient complications and fatalities en route to critical access care.
