Today is Indigenous Veterans Day, a time to recognize and honour the contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Veterans to the military. Their stories help us better understand their sacrifices and lived experiences. Jeremy Plain Eagle, Service Operator, ATCO Gas, shares his story of serving as an Indigenous person in the United States Marine Corps. He underscores the challenges and the rewarding aspects of his service and offers insights on how organizations can better support Veterans.

To celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, we asked Harjasleen Dhillon, Supervisor, Pressure Control, ATCO Gas, to share her holiday traditions. “Our family celebrates Diwali in a casual way. We light divas, both traditional (oil and wicks) and candles, enjoy samosas and sweets, and invite neighbours over for sparklers and goodies. I make Chai, and we read ‘Archie Celebrates Diwali’ with our daughter. We also talk to her about Bandi Chor Divas, which commemorates Guru Hargobind’s release from prison – a symbol of standing against oppression. We visit the Gurdwara for special prayers, activities and food.
