This week, Martin Wolf, ASBN Safer Chemicals & Circular Economy Advisor, shared an insightful piece on TriplePundit that dives deep into the urgent plastic waste crisis we face. 🌍💔 From the litter on our roads and beaches to the invisible dangers of microplastics in our food chain, the impacts of plastic pollution are far-reaching and alarming. 🧴 🏖️ Wolf emphasizes that while innovations in packaging and waste management are emerging, they alone won't solve the problem. A multi-faceted approach is essential — we need ✅better design, ✅changes in consumer behavior, and ✅strong policies to drive a true circular economy. Key highlights include: ♻️The importance of designing products for reuse and recycling. ♻️Innovations like coated paperboard replacing plastic bottles and biodegradable packaging materials. ♻️The necessity of effective recycling communication to ensure consumers know what can be recycled. Together, we can tackle plastic waste and protect our planet for future generations. ✨ ASBN Spotted: Terrius Harris, ASBN Director of Indigenous Partnerships & Inclusive Economy at the #WhiteHouseTribalNationsSummit! 👇 In his own words:
Afro-Indigenous Business, Conservation, & Education Professional | Obama Scholar | Fulbright-Hays Scholar | Perpetual Student
At the 2022 White House Tribal Nations Summit (WTNS), Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced transformative actions to support Tribally led conservation, education, and economic development through the new Office of Strategic Partnerships (OSP). One key highlight was the signing of an MOU with the American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN) to champion Tribally-led, community-based economic development and entrepreneurship. Since then, I’ve had the distinct privilege of attending the WTNS each year. These gatherings have been more than just policy discussions—they have been spaces where our relatives share their stories, traditions, and unwavering commitments to Indian Country. These moments are also where we witness courageous demands to hold the federal government accountable for promises made. What began under the Obama Administration and was revived under the Biden Administration has served as a critical convening space, demonstrating that the White House prioritizes the voices and lives of our relatives. Yet, as we prepare for a new administration, almost certain that this shared space may not continue, I am reminded: our work for liberation, representation, and sovereignty has never been confined to one room. As we move forward with uncertainty, my commitment to Indian Country remains steadfast. The work we do transcends political cycles, and our fight for self-determination endures. To my relatives: we must continue to carry the fire, to fight for the sovereignty and representation we deserve, and to hold systems accountable. The work is not finished, and it is up to all of us to ensure progress does not falter. To Secretary Deb Haaland: Thank you. Your leadership as the first Native American to serve in your role has left an indelible mark on Indian Country—one that extends far beyond what most people will ever know. Your dedication and advocacy have paved the way for generations of Native leaders to reimagine the future and achieve the extraordinary. As this administration comes to a close, I carry your inspiration with me, knowing that the seeds you’ve planted will blossom into meaningful change for years to come. #WhiteHouseTribalNationsSummit #TribalSovereignty #KeepTheFire #OurFuture

🎉A reason to celebrate! As a 2023-24 Obama Scholar, ASBN Director of Indigenous Partnerships & Inclusive Economy, Terrius Harris' work was highlighted at the 2024 Obama Foundation Democracy Forum. ✨We could not be more proud of his achievements and are thrilled to continue to work with Terrius! In his words: "Indigenous Communities and Private Sector entities are two different communities with unique histories that have often not shared the same values over the course of history. However, today, through reconciliation and a shared dedication to mutual benefit and impact that will positively impact the environment and future generations to come, they are weaving the gap closed together with stitches of a better tomorrow. What started with hope, is now becoming a reality, something I was reminded of last week during the Obama Foundation Democracy Forum. What an incredible two days that reminded us that, against all odds, the only way forward is together. Valuing our differences, cherishing each other's opinions even when we disagree, and empathizing with those we may have nothing in common with… that is what Plurality is all about. That is the America I choose to believe in. 🇺🇸" Do you appreciate Terrius's work and words? Let him know in the comments 👇 #ASBN #Celebrate #Indigenous #Leadership #ObamaScholar #IndigenousPartnership #InclusiveEconomy

Cuts to climate protections would jeopardize businesses, threaten over 200,000 lives, and dismantle millions of jobs created through clean energy investments in both red and blue states. The lame-duck Congress must #StandStrongforClimate and oppose cuts to clean energy funding, climate safeguards, and climate agencies. The US needs to pave the way for our businesses and economy to thrive. 🌍💪 #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction

Looking for a quick Friday read?! Check out this blog post by our former Regenerative Agriculture Fellow, Claire Duncombe!
🌾Over the last century, supply chains in the U.S. agricultural sector have experienced extreme concentration as small and mid-sized slaughterhouses, grain mills, and other processing and aggregation businesses closed across the country. 🧑🌾This “missing middle” severely limits market access for independent farmers and ranchers while also hindering opportunities for businesses creating new markets. 👉Read our latest blog post by ASBN’s 2024 RegenAg Fellow, Claire Duncombe, for insights into how initiatives like the Colorado Grain Chain and Growing GRASS are paving the way for a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural landscape. https://lnkd.in/gZd94FCG #ASBN #RegenerativeAgriculture #MissingMiddle #SupplyChain #ColoradoGrainChain #GrowingGRASS #USDA #Climate
