What do you do if you want to connect with influential figures in the motivational speaking industry?

First of all I will sort out who are the Influential leaders who influence me and why?? I will try to reserch on their domain/ their way of talking and their core attributes and will not only connect them / visit their ted talks/ seminars and engage in doing activities which will help to get their attention towards me and slowley engage in deep bonding later.

Engage with their posts by liking, commenting, and sharing. 3. Attend Industry Events: The National Speakers Association Conferences, seminars, and workshops are great places to meet professional speakers.

I earned my CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation from the NSA in 1991. I was a member from 1980 - 2010. First - join and get involved. Second - Separate yourself from the status quo or regular folks so you stand out. Third - Be extraordinary at what you do - don't just show up. Fourth - Start a Mastermind Group. I started MSI (Master Speakers International) in 1981 and we had 12 members that met 4 times a year for a weekend. Fifth - Stay ahead of the curve on topics, marketing and performance so you are always at the ahead of the Croud. Sixth - Learn from the best by connecting with them. I met a few of the greats: Don Hutson, Charlie Jones, Jim Rohn, Og Mandino and more early in my career. There is more but I am out of time.

The issue with this approach is that you are working towards being like those that are just ahead of you. If I want to be a top racing driver I am not going to ask my mate for tips on being the best. (Unless my mate is Lewis Hamilton!) You want to seek out the best of the best. This is what I did early on. I'd walk straight up to them at big events and be honest. I'd say "I hate public speaking but I want to excel at it, what do I do?" IF you are genuine they'd love to help you. I've had help from some of the top speakers on the planet and it's massively influenced my skill, earning potential and opportunities. Be honest. Think big. And ask the right people. Not all the people!

Writing a book on your area of expertise can significantly boost your credibility. It serves as a tangible testament to your knowledge and experience. You can also writing articles or opinion pieces for well-known publications can expand your reach and establish your thought leadership. Moreover, stay authentic and continuous Learning. Remain true to yourself: authenticity resonates with people. Stay true to your message and values. Finally, never stop learning: the best motivational speakers are those who continuously seek to learn and grow, not just in their field but in understanding human psychology, trends, and effective communication strategies.

Select a topic that you have expertise in, both in-depth and breadth. Evaluate your expertise: strengths and gaps, real-life experiences, and results you have generated for yourself, an organization, or team. Establish your point-of-view on the topic based on your expertise and experience. Continue to be actively involved in conversations, projects, and conferences related to the topic.

I find very little narcissistic public speakers. Most want to help someone find their way in the public speaking world. Know your craft. Research your topics. Make certain your topic of choice matches your expertise. Look for a local Toastmasters group to gain comfort in speaking. That, in itself, may open doors for you.

Personally, utilizing social media helped me big time. Following influential motivational speakers on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. Engaging with their content by liking, commenting, and sharing posts, and sometimes reaching out to them directly through private messages.

We have them as guests on our podcast. You would be amazed at how many people say yes, if you just ask! Many of my fellow speakers have used this technique and have gotten famous people on their shows. That starts a relationship that can be super helpful in the future.

I have always believed that making a professional and cleaned up experience is important. You know what they say "don't trust a book" but it happens and that first impression is the biggest impression. but it's at least to provide an appearance to them that gives that "Cover", but also display your personality. The various trades industries end up being so tight not and a community of source. A great example:, Want to impress a girl you like? Best way to do it is show interest and create relationshipz with their close friends. They love it.

Attending events where those you respect, admire, and want to build a relationships with is KEY to getting them in your network! Ask how you can support them - and then follow through with it. I have had others that admire and respect on my podcast, and have cited them and their work (their books) in my LinkedIn posts - sharing their successes is so helpful, and will make a memorable impression. Build the relationship and show your support and then will do the same.

There are many large, corporate events I’ve attended that ask repeat attendees to submit information on a topic and myself, as a speaker. Take steps in the public speaking industry. The first step is our willingness to be spoken to.

I will attend events, as I have in the past. But not specifically to connect with a speaker, but to learn from the best. If I need to ask something, or to offer them something, I will try to get closer. However, when I become the best in my own world, when I reach the best version of myself, I don’t need to connect with “idols”.

Pick topics that are relevant today. People will listen to and value what you say if the topic offers practical application. How many of us have attended events in the past, taken great notes on what the speaker said, but didn’t leave with ways to apply the lesson? Value answers the question: “What’s next?”

Some ways to get started that anyone can do TODAY: -Reach out and ask them how you can support their work because you admire it. - Post about their work. - Tag them in any related posts that they may find relevant. - Host them on your podcast.

Those that you admire and who are doing well are also just people.... sometimes it is easy to forget this! One of the key things for me is about inviting them to work with you on something you do well - I have interviewed massive names on my podcast - they wanted to come as my pod is different from any other ones they have appeared on - so getting them to come on was just a matter of reaching out. I find when you focus on your craft, being great, then others who are also great but maybe with a bigger following sense your expertise and they will play with you as they were just starting at one point too. Be brave and reach out. The worst they can say is no.
