Accountability starts at the top. If the leadership of the company do not consistently demonstrate accountability and transparency, you don't have a hope in hell of weaving it into the culture of your organization. If I look back at my career there are many mistakes I have made, had many failures, however have always analyzed them, committed to sitting down and scribing why, what and how and truly understanding what I learnt from it and what not to do next time I am faced with a similar challenge. There is honestly magic in doing a full breakdown of the situation, your response and the result as that does help you retain and learn for the next time. as simple as diarizing it.

As a leader, openly owning up to own mistakes and correcting them with out blaming the juniors creates a culture of trust. create a culture of celebrating small wins for the team and individual contributions

I believe this starts within leadership. The main reason for a lack of transparency or accountability is related to what I call "gotcha culture". This is where there is swift negative action on anything a person does wrong instead of gently coaching in the right direction until the desired result it achieved. Cultivating an environment that contributes to the safety and comfortability of the employees is key to being able to maintain transparency and to provide a safe space to take accountability when something doesn't go according to plan.

I have recently been thinking a lot about this topic. Managers, team leaders, and executives are critical in an organization. Though we may promote or hire them because of the qualities they possess that we deem worthy of the position, without support, communication, and clear goals, we inevitably set them up for failure. If you just hold employees accountable but offer no support (help, training, resources, etc.), then you come off as dictatorial and employees will be unhappy. As we know, unhappy employees lead to minimal effort and turnover. Also, the only way employees can learn from their mistakes is if their leaders provide support. A mistake without support is simply failure. Nothing is learned except that they didn't do the job correctly. Leaders must guide employees on how to do better and create a culture where failure isn't something to fear.

Celebrating Progress is very crucial as it encourages to do more, my thoughts around this, Celebrating not only major milestones but also smaller victories can help build strongerrelationships. Recognizing consistent effort, improvements, helps overcoming challenges with ease. Featureing success stories on the company intranet or newsletter is one of the best ways of encouragement. Highlighting employees efforts can contribute to more productivity and enhance results.

Celebrate Progress Action: Recognize and celebrate both small and large achievements. This can be through formal recognition programs like "Employee of the Month" or informal acknowledgments during team meetings. Action: Provide incentives such as bonuses, additional time off, or public recognition to motivate and reward accountable behavior.

Most of the times the only thing we work hard for is recognition. Truly splendid performances must be recognised and made public. Appreciation yields confidence and ownership in the employee. Not all appreciation is followed by monetary demands from the employee, if that's what the management is afraid of!

It starts with You - Accountability is about you not others. If you are not accountable you can’t expect others to be. This is even more important if you have a position of leadership.
