Dreh, der Filmdreh baut auf der Vorproduktion auf, hier wird Licht, Ton, Kameratechnik, Bildgestaltung und Regie vereint, um das gewünschte Ergebnis zu erzielen. 3. Postproduktion. Der Film entsteht im Schnitt, hier gilt es voll allem die Botschaft zu vermitteln, welche bei der Konzepterstellung ausgearbeitet wurde. Je nach Größe des Projekts kommen zur finalen Version noch Sounddesign, die Tonabmischung, Color Grading, Einblendungen und Special Effects dazu.

Interns I’ve had, the ones who were willing to not just sit and do what they were told but actively made an effort to learn and grow Through the experience were the ones that yielded the most success down the line.

Real networking never feels like “networking” and the deepest connections cannot come from “agenda”. Trying too hard to make an impression backfires because it is disingenuous. A good rule is to listen before you pitch and stay open, honest, and humble (without selling yourself short). A shared passion, appreciation for vision, or a well thought through question do wonders to establish a conversation in trust. You don’t want to make an ask of a stranger you don’t know and you won’t attract the best collaborators that way either. Mentorship can never be demanded. Make good connections along the way but don’t come in with an agenda. It’s important to listen first. What do they want? Then, if it’s the kind of service you could provide. That’s when you make your pitch subtly. Making good connections is basically having good public relations skills. Always set a good strategy before meeting up with clients or when attending social events.

In my experience when I was starting out - be as helpful as possible. Things change quickly in production and everyone needs to be as helpful and have a teamwork mindset - in order to roll As a crew through changes in schedule, weather, actor or technical concerns etc you may not understand why you should help sharpen pencils or move the couch or go get a cup of ice or something random but just help your crew members no matter what they need- they are often under pressures you may not understand until after the fact. That makes a great intern/ always there to help competently and professionally and with a good attitude. Good attitude will get you far .

When I was part of a production for my production assistant programme project I assisted in the script build up and took care of welfare even excluding myself from the equation.

Praktikanten haben manchmal auch die Möglichkeit eigene kleine Projekte umzusetzen, welche Ihr bereits angeeignetes Wissen am besten zur Schau stellen. Produktionsfirmen verfügen oft über ausreichend Equipment, welches von Praktikanten benutzt werden darf. Beispielsweise um am Wochenende auf eigene Faust einen Film zu drehen, ihn dann in einer freien Minute zu schneiden und das Ergebnis mit den Vorgesetzten zu besprechen, somit können sich Praktikanten auch selbst Wissen aneignen und dieses dann verbessern.

It’s a competitive field and so you need to be ruthless in your pursuit to improve after every shoot. How were my skin tones? Did I nail focus throughout? Could I have improved framing? Did I get adequate coverage? Did I tell a good story? It’s not enough to say that the client was happy…..you have to motivate yourself to analyze your performance and strive to get better.

A good internship is great, for the insights, the connections and for real work experience. But it can also be valuable to learn what you DON’T want!

I left uni for a Soho TV ad producer as a runner (the role of an intern hadn’t been invented then!). To be successful at the role I had to take a deep breath. One day I would be out on a bike delivering film rushes to a preview theatre. The next I may be in a taxi to a studio to deliver props for a production. One memorable day I ended up flying to Amsterdam to deliver a rough cut of an ad. All good stuff! But then other days I would be taking the PAs clothes to the dry cleaners, or getting food for a company lunch or taking the directors Bentley out for a run, to top up the battery. So you have to take the rough with the smooth. You have to say yes, fit in with people who can be tricky and show your enthusiasm and love of the business.
