Mid-semester slump? We’ve all been there. Start by shaking up the routine; ditch the monotony. Add interactive elements like polls, breakout rooms, or gamified quizzes. Show you’re invested; drop quick, personalized check-ins (“How’s your project coming?”) to remind them they’re more than a name on a screen. Share real-world applications of your lessons; make it clear how this class connects to their goals. And celebrate small wins! Acknowledging effort, like “Great discussion in last session,” keeps spirits high. Most importantly, open the floor: “What’s one thing I can tweak to make this class work better for you?” Engagement flows when students feel seen.

It's not easy, i am facing the first year of professional teaching with long term students and i see the most various aswers to the requirement of the school, in particular from students that have been taking primary school lesson in the lockdown..... School is very judgemental in italy and they suffer a lot and loose motivation. If only i could tell those students how they are clever to be arrived till the 9 grade! Sometimes it's the parents, that are equally judgmental. I feel really traped in this trinagle and everytime i say "you can do it" it's like if i were only whispering.
