Who leads? The ability to address queries (and when a "tech" recruiter's knowledge is reliant) is directly correlated to trust, and thus confidence. And no selling. No misrepresentations. Ever.

It also comes across as though you do not know what you are going to say and are shooting from the hip with your words. Filler words sound like a crutch for a person that does not know what they are going to say next. Articulating your words in a way that exude confidence, instills a sense of comfort in the candidate. They feel as though you should be the expert. Show them you are an expert by choosing your words well.

Makes sure you understand the question and the reason for it being asked before you fire back an answer. "That's a good question. Before I answer it do you mind me asking what you mean by X?" When they re-word it there's a chance they'll reveal the motivation for the question or give some context that helps you to answer more effectively. If not, you could ask "What were you hoping I'd say?" Worst case you can tell them that you'll go away and come back to them with an answer.
