Watch demos and analyse making key notes or follow ups and more importantly ask for help on things that you don't know. Tech is forever changing and so with this there are always areas for improvement!

I have been fortunate to work with men and women with seemingly near-total knowledge of advanced languages, protocols, and topologies. A handful of these seasoned and gifted colleagues have struggled, surprisingly, with a lack of understanding of infrastructure fundamentals. Most of my anecdotes revolve around some peer coming to my rescue, but there have been times I was able to return the favor because of a blind spot someone with systems basics. I'm not suggesting you should interrupt your CCIE track to sit for the A+ exam, but never forget the building blocks of our field. That global traffic issue may really just be an outclassed ancient workgroup switch someone repurposed to sit in front of one of your edge routers.

Learn and commit to memory the definition of IT Operations. Then get an understanding of how that definition differs from the reality of your organization’s IT Operations function. Once that is done you can begin the process of continuous learning as the “care and feeding” of the different technologies and their platforms all have different and competing support requirements. Gain a deep understanding the interdependencies between the various technology platforms in he environment will help you develop the expertise necessary to ensure efficient and effective IT operations practices.

Stay Informed: Regularly read tech news, blogs, and follow industry leaders on social media to stay updated on the latest trends and technologies. Learn Continuously: Take online courses, attend webinars, and get certifications in emerging technologies like cloud computing, AI, cybersecurity, and automation. Hands-On Practice: Set up personal projects or lab environments to experiment with new technologies and tools. Join Communities/Network: Participate in forums, online communities, and local tech meetups to share knowledge and learn from others. Stay Curious: Always ask questions and seek to understand how new technologies work and how they can be applied to solve problems.

LinkedIn is not just solely for business, there are communities, leaders, education platforms a huge network of potential regardless of expertise. Grow, follow, learn, teach, there is always something to be taken from the platform. YouTube is a free resource to learn too. Expo's, webinars, events, go see things that help you develop and learn

Have a core focus. I used to want to learn all aspects of technology but this wasn't possible. There is no version of a complete tech know-how as technology forever evolves. Pick an interest sector and work on that, understand the basics, get qualifications and a core focus. Basic understanding of general IT will allow for further development and learning potentials.

By being able to teach others, your not only understanding the technology but your also in a position where you can bring these discussions in to layman's terms to educate others. This allows a collective understand, personal development and see peers/ clients develop their understandings too. Free teaching will enable bigger discussions and trust.

Tech has a lot of different niches and aspects to it, you won't be able to specialise in everything however focussing on a core topic will allow in-depth conversations, the ability to teach and understand, growth and ultimately, what you do should also be done to/for you for the tech stuff you don't know. The network for tech is huge and so there is always a community around willing to help where needed.
