Imagine a Utah student not being allowed to take part in graduation activities because of a simple school lunch debt.
Numbers show that students in the state are currently burdened with over $2.8 million in lunch debt and one penalty could mean not being able to walk with their class at graduation.
FOX 13 News is leading the charge to erase that debt, along with help from charitable Utahns, with the goal of raising as much as possible to help students eliminate their money owed. All the funds raised... 100%... will be donated to Utah’s public schools to help pay the lunch debt for seniors whose participation in graduation is at risk.
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, generous Utahns already contributed $24,532 worth of donations!
As a boost, the Scripps Howard Fund will match all donations up to $10,000.
That means with the match money, more than $32,000 has already been raised as of Wednesday morning to help alleviate school meal debt of Utah families.
In 2023, this fundraiser raised more than $40,000 to help families pay school lunch debt.
No child should go hungry, and no one should be denied their participation in graduation due to the burden of school lunch debt.
