This book is dedicated to Norm Stapleton, an amazing human being who is a husband, best friend, father, silly, coach, mentor, leader, entertainer, jokester, prankster, smiler, creator of laughter, kind lover of people, impact maker, legacy creator, and lover of life.
Anyone could go on forever and ever talking about all his amazing qualities, but one thing that’s for sure is that anyone who knew or was influenced by Norm will carry on the amazing and funny qualities that he always left everywhere, like glitter. (You know, the kind that you keep finding days later?) Because that’s the kind of guy he was. He stuck with you through thick and thin and was always there for you no matter what the cost.
Norm always had incredible words of wisdom to share with you, a trick to show you, a joke to tell, a quote to add perfectly to a moment, or... if you couldn’t find him, he scared you and laughed with you about it! Needless to say, he has already been so missed by thousands of people that he impacted directly and indirectly, but his legacy will live on through all of us." - Natalie Stapleton
Norm Stapleton III (May 23, 1978 to Dec 27, 2021)
Norm, you are a friend and mentor who was in my life for such a short time in comparison to the impact of your brightly burning light, passing your flame of hope and belief from your leadership and mentorship to everyone you met, changing their life and ultimately influencing change in my life and family in ways I never knew were possible in which I am forever grateful. I miss you, I love you, and I can’t wait to learn and laugh with you again one day.
– Edward Unger
Foreword
Call me Coyne. It’s pronounced like money but spelled kinda funny. As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of SERHANT., I’m living the dream job every tech enthusiast fantasizes about. Each morning, I wake up knowing my work is significant—not just to those around me but also to millions worldwide, inspiring them to be their best by following our example, incorporating our teachings, and striving to match our standards of excellence that we’re fortunate to be trendsetting in the various industry segments we operate within.
It’s always been an exciting challenge for us when making decisions since there’s no other company to compare ourselves to. SERHANT. is a media company that happens to be the most followed real estate brand in the world. We’re a luxury real estate brokerage, a film and media production studio, a creative agency, a software development company, an online sales education company, and the subject of Netflix’s very first NYC-based real estate reality TV show, Owning Manhattan. Perhaps it goes without saying, early on there was a lot to untangle and evaluate to ensure successful growth for the future.
My love affair with technology began just before the age of 3, as I sneaked behind my parents’ backs to tinker with our family’s Commodore 1802A. This journey, like a rollercoaster designed by Escher, has been filled with twists, turns, challenges, and opportunities. Never did I imagine I’d be steering the technology vision of an organization as accomplished and prestigious as SERHANT., a company I helped co-found in 2020. From a scrappy team of fewer than 20 people on September 15, 2020, we’ve ballooned to nearly 1,000, working in harmony across dozens of markets and states, supporting an education community of more than 35,000 members across 128 countries. Our growth has been fueled by collaboration, teamwork, and, candidly, a precarious hold on sanity.
At SERHANT., we were already using ClickUp but were scattered and siloed, living in scope-creep, and wasting valuable time and money figuring it out ourselves. That’s when I found Edward Unger, a partner consultant who brought us together, guiding us to build out and rely on ClickUp to power our growth. Edward’s approach wasn’t just about implementing a tool; it was about fostering a mindset of collaboration and efficiency. It was like watching a master conductor turn a cacophony into a symphony, except the orchestra was made up of exhausted executives, directors, and managers.
Edward’s brilliance isn’t just in his technical know-how but in his human touch. He understands that technology is only as good as the people who use it. His empathetic leadership transformed our scattered efforts into a cohesive, well-oiled machine. Instead of imposing changes, he guided us with understanding and patience, making the complex seem simple and the daunting feel achievable.
Why my opinion matters is also because I come from a long line of innovators. My grandfather’s ingenuity and inventive spirit have been passed down through generations of Coynes, a legacy I proudly carry forward. He was the first in the line, beginning his life as an orphan in East New York Brooklyn, going on to modify and improve machines in a Novacane factory at 16 years old, then becoming decorated in World War II, naming my father Russell after his closest friend who fell in battle beside him. He went on to innovate dozens of improvements to ground and air technologies for United Airlines in Denver before passing away at 92 with his trusty Gameboy at his side, a Tetris cartridge still inside that had never once been removed. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a talker, and true to my genetics, my grandfather’s AOL screenname was Rambler93.
One of my favorite experiences with Edward was a conversation we had a few months into our collaboration. Edward spoke so authoritatively about our company’s various departments, their goals, and initiatives that it dawned on me that he understood SERHANT. as well as any of us—perhaps even better. As the orchestrator of interconnecting everything we were in the midst of and had still yet to achieve, his insights were invaluable.
In Mastering Project Management with ClickUp for Work and Home Life Balance, Edward distills his vast knowledge into a guide that is both practical and inspiring. This book tackles the universal challenges of both personal and professional realms, offering innovative solutions that are as refreshing as the first sip of a drink that took obnoxiously long to arrive at your table on a hot summer day. It’s like having a trellis for your vine to grow on, providing the structure and support you need to flourish.
Edward has a knack for storytelling, and this book is no exception. He weaves in anecdotes and examples that make the content relatable and engaging. Whether you’re a seasoned project manager or just starting, ClickUp
has something for everyone. It’s not just about mastering a tool; it’s about transforming your approach to work and achieving a harmonious balance between your professional and personal life.
I often say, Humanity doesn’t have a technology problem; technology has a humanity problem.
Technology, like a screwdriver, can assemble a baby’s crib or be used for harm. It doesn’t decide how it’s used; it amplifies our flaws and our greatest aspirations. Edward’s book is a testament to this philosophy. It shows how we can harness technology like ClickUp to bring more life into our lives, making us more efficient, connected, and fulfilled.
So, dear reader, I invite you to embark on this journey with an open mind and a readiness to transform your life. Edward’s wisdom and guidance will undoubtedly lead you to new heights of efficiency and fulfillment. As someone who has witnessed the impact of his methods firsthand, I can confidently say that this book is a game-changer.
Dive in, explore, and let the magic of ClickUp and Edward Unger guide you to a better, more balanced, more life-filled life.
Nerdy regards,
Ryan Coyne
CTO, SERHANT.

The Stapletons: Your example of love, leadership, and grace towards others nursed me back to health in some of the toughest seasons of my life. You equipped me to overcome challenges and pay it forward as a lifestyle in ways I did not know existed. Weathering the storms of life and the beautiful treasures in life together with all of you is an experience beyond words and a storybook all on its own that I cherish daily.
-Mariam Hency Varghese - working under your leadership, with One Hope’s love and compassionate culture, was one of the first times I saw down the rabbit hole of an organization that matches the service they provide with the same level of excellence within the organization, watching your compassion to help your team and those in need. Thank you for your leadership and example, for helping uncover my strengths and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
-Perry and Kim Santoloci, working with and learning from you changed my life trajectory. I wish all the blessings and love your grace gives to everyone who comes to you, your family, and all those who know you.
Daniel Guelzo, you were one of my first mentors before I knew what that meant. You Miyagi’d me. :) Our time together in Atlanta was short, but your impact on my life remains.
-Thank you to everyone who I have worked with and connected with.
-Thank you to all fathers, mothers, mentors, and leaders who stand in the gap and pay it forward to love and mentor those who could never repay.
..It’s okay if the beginning of your journey didn't turn out how you thought, as long as it doesn’t stay that way. -Norm Stapleton
