Level 9: Keeping a Job
Final Note from Jason
Introduction
Thank you for making the intention to actively find a job, and grab this title as one of many things to help you. This book is for recent school leavers, college and university graduates, and anyone who is applying for an office job for the first time. It assumes you have, at the very least, senior high school skills and a good command of the English language. It also assumes you have excellent verbal and written communication skills. If your written and spoken language is not up to scratch, then I recommend doing a literacy course. If English is your second language, and you believe it is holding you back, you should fix this first asap. You can find an online tutor on www.TutorAgent.com
The book also focuses more on office type jobs (the easiest to get and keep) rather than other types of work like retail, construction or freelance work which are likely to be short term, though many of the techniques in the book can be applied to these areas.
Keep the following in the forefront of your mind whenever you’re looking for a job and attending an interview, as it will help you have the right mindset when offering your services.
1. The business wants to find someone who will make it more money and solve their problems.
2. The business wants someone who won’t cost it much money or cause them problems.
3. The business wants someone who will work hard, continuously and in a focused way without being distracted, or causing distraction for other employees.
4. The business wants an employee who always arrives early, leaves late, doesn’t spend too much time on toilet breaks, lunch breaks or smoking breaks.
5. The business wants an employee who actively makes a passionate contribution to the future of the business, and cares about the business like it was their own child, sacrificing their life and family for the betterment of the business.
6. The business wants someone who will fit the culture and customs of its workplace and is unlikely to object, based on personal preferences, to how things are done within the business.
7. The business needs a product or tool (you) that will be useful, and it will keep it for as long as that product or tool is useful. If the product or tool stops being useful, or the business changes and the product or tool’s function is no longer relevant, then the business will suffer as a result and it will need to find a new product or tool to keep being able to make money, if the product or tool cannot be upgraded to fit.
8. The business wants someone with common sense who can think outside the box, plan far ahead, and always avoid future problems
Whenever you look for a job, also keep this in mind How can I help this business make money?
When you’re in the interview, think about I want to help this business to be successful.
When you’re working at your new job think I want to do everything possible to make sure this business is a success now and into the future.
If you’re okay with that, you’re ready to begin looking for an office job.
Good luck!
Jason
P.S. Finding a job is a very stressful and serious business, so I’ve written this book in a gaming style to help reduce the anxiety where possible. Whether you find it fun, or groan at my attempt, I’m hoping it’ll put you in a lighter mood to tackle this area of your life. As you work through the sections of the interview game plan, note your points and work hard to level up! If you keep a positive mindset about searching for work, and see it as more of a game, rather than some seriously terrible life changing situation, you increase your ability to find a job!
How to Get a Job in an Office in 30 Days
By Winning the Interview Game!
Beginner Level
Level 1 – Pre-Preparation
Win the Positive Mindset Game
Before you even start writing your resume, you need to change your mindset.
If you’re down because you don’t have money, stressed because you don’t have money, worried about all the bills because you don’t have money, then the smell of sweat and fear is going to be emanating from you all the time and people will avoid you. Yes, they will! You’ll constantly be losing points, until you’re down to zero.
Start thinking about all the positive things in your life. Walk in the park. Ring an old friend and talk about the fun times (don’t mention your money problems). Get your positive points back up. Live in the now, and don’t dwell on the past or worry about the far future.
When you put more focus on your lack of money, or lack of a job you change your whole physical persona. Stressed, anxious, depressed
