Gordon received his B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder, his M.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and his Ph.D. from Princeton University in the History of Religion. He has been a lifelong student of Emerson, Whitman, and Thoreau. He has taught philosophy and religious studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of New Mexico at Taos. His previous books have won three awards, including selection to the Outstanding Academic Books list of the American Library Association. He lives in Eugene, Oregon.view less
