A. Use of the Websites and the mobile application
By using the website “www.euronews.com”, any of its sub-domains, “www.africanews.com” or our mobile application, you agree to these terms of use. If you do not agree to these terms of use, please do not use our websites nor our mobile application. You may download one copy of the materials on any single computer for your personal, non-commercial home use only, provided that:
you keep intact all copyright and other proprietary notices;
you make no modifications to the materials;
you do not use the materials in a manner that suggests an association with any of our products, services, or brands;
you do not download quantities of materials to a database that can be used to avoid future downloads from this website. For purposes of these terms, the use of any such material on any other website or computer environment is prohibited.
The Euronews’ and Africanews’ websites and our mobile application contains copyrighted material, trademarks and other proprietary information, including, but not limited to, text, photos, video, graphics, music, sound and software.
The entire contents of Euronews’ and Africanews’ websites and our mobile application are copyrighted under the French copyright law. You may not modify, publish, translate, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit, any of the content, in whole or in part.
You may download copyrighted material for your personal use only. Except as otherwise expressly permitted under French copyright law, no copying, redistribution, retransmission, publication or commercial exploitation of downloaded material will be permitted without the express permission of Euronews and Africanews and the copyright owner. In the event of any permitted copying, redistribution or publication of copyrighted material, no changes in or deletion of author attribution, trademark legend or copyright notice shall be made.
You shall not upload, post or otherwise make available on Euronews, Africanews or our mobile application any material protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owner of the copyright, trademark or other proprietary right. You shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of copyrights, proprietary rights, or any other harm resulting from such a submission.
Any unlawful use of the website can result in legal action.
B. The Feedback
The “Feedback” means the message board, or e-mail function offered as part of this Site. If you participate in the Feedback, you must not:
defame, abuse, harass or threaten others;
make any bigoted, hateful, or racially offensive statements;
infringe human rights;
advocate illegal activity or discuss illegal activities with the intent to commit them;
post or distribute any material that infringes and/or violates any right of a third party or any law;

We reserve the right to remove or edit content from the Forum at any time and for any reason.
By submitting any materials to the Feedback, you automatically grant (or warrant that the owner of such materials expressly granted) us a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, nonexclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and display, create derivative works from and distribute such materials or incorporate such materials into any form, medium, or technology now known or later developed throughout the universe.
Information obtained in the Feedback may not be reliable. We cannot be responsible for the content or accuracy of any information, and shall not be responsible for any trading or investment decisions made based on such information.

We cannot ensure that you will be satisfied with any products or services that you purchase from a third-party site that links to or from the website or third-party content on our sites. We do not endorse any of the merchandise, nor have we taken any steps to confirm the accuracy or reliability of, any of the information contained in such third-party sites or content.
D. Limitation of Liability
1) Euronews undertakes to do its utmost to guarantee the truthfulness and accuracy of the information available on all the Sites and on our mobile application. However, Euronews and Africanews cannot be held responsible for the inaccuracy thereof, nor for the use or interpretation thereof by Users.
Under no circumstances, including, but not limited to, negligence, shall we be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages that result from the use of, or the inability to use, the sites, our mobile application or materials or functions on our sites and application, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
2) Websites and our mobile application also provide access to Partner Services, via clickable advertising elements (banners, videos, etc.) or via hypertext links integrated into various sections of the Websites and our mobile application and referring to sites, content and services published by said partners.
The User acknowledges that these Partner Services are totally independent of Euronews and Africanews. Consequently, any use of the Partner Services via the Sites and our mobile application will be subject exclusively to the conditions of use and/or sale specific to each Partner Service as well as to their personal data protection policy.
Euronews and Africanews may not be held liable for the content accessible, for all offers, information consulted or transactions carried out on the Partner Services. Similarly, Euronews and Africanews offers no guarantee as to the terms and conditions of application of the regulations in force by the publishers of the Partner Services, who are solely responsible for them.
3) The Sites, application and Services are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Euronews and Africanews will use their best efforts to guarantee accessibility to the Sites, application and Services but Euronews and Africanews may not be held liable due to risks of interruption or malfunction related to connection, maintenance operations, editorial updates, congestion of networks and/or computer systems, intrusion by unauthorized third parties and contamination by any viruses circulating on said networks and services, internal or external strikes, incorrect configuration or use of the User’s computer, or any other cause whether or not dependent on the User’s will.
Euronews and Africanews shall not be held liable in case of interruption or deterioration in the quality of the Sites, application and Services is due to the occurrence of a case of force majeure. Any event of force majeure or fortuitous event, as defined by current French legislation, is considered to be a case of force majeure.
4) Users may comment on Content posted on the Sites or application (hereinafter referred to as “Comments”), and/or upload texts, videos, sounds, images and/or photographs (hereinafter referred to as “User Content”). These Comments and User Content may be viewed by any Internet user visiting the Sites and our mobile application.
Euronews and Africanews does not carry out any a priori control of the User Content and/or Comments posted online by Users, who thus remain responsible for the content of the Comments and/or User Content of which they are the authors.
Under no circumstances may Euronews or Africanews be held liable on the basis of Comments and/or User Content that may have been posted online by a User who does not hold the necessary rights for such posting.
Any User who posts Comments and/or User Content on the Sites or on our application expressly authorizes Euronews, free of charge and on a non-exclusive basis, to retain, reproduce and represent said Comments and/or User Content on the Sites or on our application for the entire duration of the intellectual property rights as of their publication.
5) Euronews and Africanews are not responsible for consequences of children under 16 years old’s access to the websites nor to the mobile application as they are not authorized to access it without their parents’ consent.
The holder(s) of parental authority is (are) responsible for compliance with all the provisions of these terms and conditions when using the Sites or the mobile application by the person under 16 years old’s User.
Parents (or holders of parental authority) are invited to monitor their children’s Use of the Services and to bear in mind that the Services are intended to reach a wide audience and that, in their capacity as legal guardians, it is the parents’ responsibility to determine which Web site is or is not appropriate for their child(ren) and to monitor their Use thereof.
E. Users
Access to the Sites or to the mobile app is free and does not require prior registration.
However, certain services offered on the Sites (such as the sending of newsletters) may require prior registration, identification and use of a User Account.
When creating a User Account, the User will be asked to choose a personal identifier and potentially an associated password, which are strictly personal and confidential. A registration form will be submitted to the User so that he/she may provide Euronews and Africanews with certain mandatory or optional personal information as indicated on the form. If the User fails to provide the information mentioned as mandatory, the User Account will not be validated.
This personal data is collected directly from the User to enable him/her to be easily identified on future connections, and to provide additional services and/or access. This personal data is stored with the User’s consent and will be processed as defined in paragraph F of these terms and conditions. It is retained from the date of creation of the User Account and for the entire period of use of the Services. The User data is kept for a maximum period of three years after the user’s last connection or it can be delete within a month on a request for deletion of the Account or by the User himself.
F. Privacy Policy

These policies explain the origin and nature of the data collected by Euronews and Africanews during the User’s browsing and/or use of the services offered on the Euronews Sites and applications, the purposes of their collection and the rights the User has over this data in accordance with the regulations on the Protection of Personal Data applicable in France and Europe.
G. Modifications of the Website / Termination
We reserve the right, at our discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove portions of these terms at any time. Please check these terms periodically for changes. Your continued use of this website following the posting of changes to these terms will mean you accept those changes.
Your access to the Sites or to the application may be terminated immediately without notice from us if in our sole discretion you fail to comply with any term or provision of these terms. Upon termination, you must cease use of the Site and destroy all materials obtained from such site and all copies thereof, whether made under these terms or otherwise.

In some circumstances, more than one Data Controller may be responsible for Processing your Personal Data, for example, where it is shared with other companies for a purpose set out in this Policy.

1. Definitions
In this Policy the following terms shall have the following meanings:
Consent of the Data subject means any freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the Data subject’s wishes by which he or she, by a statement or by a clear affirmative action, signifies agreement to the Processing of Personal Data relating to him or her;
Data Controller means the natural or legal person who, alone or jointly with others (in which case this other person is the joint Data Controller) determines the purposes and means of the Processing;
Data Processor means the natural or legal person who processes Personal Data on behalf of the Data Controller;
Data Protection Law means in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the Processing of Personal Data and on the free movement of such Data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (“GDPR”), the French law no 78-17 du 6 janvier 1978 (« law informatique et libertés ») and Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2002 concerning the Processing of Personal Data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector (“ePrivacy Directive”);
Data Subject means any person whose Personal Data are processed;
International Transfer means a transfer of Personal Data outside the European Economic Area made up of the member countries of the European Union and Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland or to an organization international;
Processing (of Personal Data) means any operation carried out on your Personal Data such as the collection, access, modification, consultation of your Data;
Personal Data or Data means any information relating to a natural person either identified or identifiable directly or indirectly, in particular using other identifying Data;
Subprocessor means any person appointed by or on behalf of Data Processor to process Personal Data on behalf of the Data Controller;
Services means collectively any online facilities, tools, Services or information that Euronews makes available through the Site either now or in the future.
2. Personal Data
2.1 Personal information we process :
Euronews may need to process your Personal Data in the context of various Processing operations. Euronews has defined purposes in order to justify each Processing of your Personal Data.
In order to provide you with the Services offered on the Site, Euronews may process Personal Data concerning your activity on the Site in particular, such as browsing Data or subscription Data. This may be Data that you have directly communicated, in particular in the context of your subscription to our newsletters, or in the context of your registration in some of our events, or when you answer polls and surveys. This may also be Data that you have not directly communicated and which are collected automatically according to your browsing.
The provision of your Personal Data is most often mandatory to enable us to achieve the purposes for which they are processed. When Data is optional, we specify it to you.
2.2 Why and how do we process your Personal Data? How long do we store your Data?
Euronews carries out most of the Processing of your Data as Data Controller. However, some Services may involve the Processing of your Data by third parties such as our Data Processors or other Data Controllers.
Your Personal Data is kept for the time necessary to achieve the purposes for which it is processed. The retention period of your Personal Data may depend on the type of Personal Data processed, the purposes of the Processing, our legitimate interest, the exercise or not of your rights as Data Subjects or even certain legal provisions requiring us to keep it. Once the retention period has expired or your right to withdrawal, erasure or object has been exercised, your Personal Data is deleted. In some cases, they may be anonymized, which irreversibly prevents any re-identification of the Data Subjects and thus no longer constitutes Personal Data within the meaning of the GDPR.
For each Processing purpose, Euronews has determined a legal basis in order to justify the Processing of your Personal Data.

3. Specificities relating to some Processing activities
Newsletters
When you subscribe to our newsletters, you consent to the use of your email address to receive these newsletters. In order to avoid misuse of email addresses, we send you an email and ask you to confirm your email address to validate your registration as part of an automated process (double opt-in procedure). The newsletters sent to you can be personalized according to your behavioral data on the Site if you give your consent to the use of cookies in this sense on our CMP (consent management platform).
On the second interface for subscribing to our newsletters, we invite you to fill out a form. The additional Personal Data that you voluntarily provide to us (the form being optional) are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in order to better know our audience of subscribers and to establish statistics.
Your email address may also be used for the purpose of targeting advertising on our Site, if you expressly consent to this in the form using a checkbox. We share your email address with one of our service providers who acts as joint data controller and who will proceed directly to its pseudonymization via the SHA256 hash function, i.e. it will transform your email address into a string of 256 bits which will constitute a unique fingerprint in order to make your re-identification impossible. Indeed, once the hashing process has been completed, our service provider immediately deletes your email address so that you cannot be re-identified. Our service provider creates an envelope that contains your identifier created on the basis of your hashed email address combined with other Personal Data collected thanks to the cookie dropped on your terminal by LiveRamp if you have consented to it via our CMP , which are stored in our first party storage which to show you personalized advertisements.
Please note that our service provider may also use your Personal Data on the basis of its legitimate interest for internal quality assurance and troubleshooting purposes. In this case, our service provider acts as data controller and Euronews is not responsible for the processing carried out. For more information on this processing and your rights, please read the privacy policy and the information on the Transparency & Consent Framework of the IAB from our service provider LiveRamp.
Euronews has signed an agreement with this service provider based in the United States on the protection of Personal Data including the new standard contractual clauses of June 4, 2021 adopted by the European Commission. You can obtain a copy of these clauses by sending us a request.
Comments on our articles
We offer you the opportunity to comment on our articles. We use one of our service providers with whom you must register. Your Personal Data such as your name, email address and your browsing and connection data according to the choice you have made on our CMP regarding the deposit of cookies are collected by our service provider who acts as Joint Data Controller. By using this service, you are informed that this service provider is located outside the European Economic Area. Euronews has signed a data protection agreement and the new standard contractual clauses of June 4, 2021 adopted by the European Commission with this service provider.
Euronews has access to statistical data relating to the use of the commentary service in order to understand the effectiveness and relevance of its articles on the Site and may moderate comments.
Events
You may participate to events organized by Euronews. In that case, you will have to register and we may retain your information for a period of 3 years after your last interaction with us in order to invite you to future events. Your information will be stored at Euronews and through our processor named Swoogo, whose Data centers are located in Europe. If you share any sensitive information with us, we will delete it right after the event.
Polls and Surveys
We may collect your feedback on how we can improve your experience on the Euronews homepage. The data collected will also enable us to offer you personalized content and advertising on euronews.com, while guaranteeing respect for your privacy.
Social networks
You can share our articles via the following social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Messenger, LinkedIn, mail, Flipboard, VK, Telegram, Xing, Meneame, Balatarin, OK, Viber, Whats app. Your Data may be collected and processed by these social networks. Euronews is not responsible for the processing carried out by these social networks. We invite you to read the privacy policies of each of them.
Targeted advertising
Free and open access to the content of the Site is financed by revenue from advertising broadcast on the Site. Targeted advertising display technologies may be used.
Targeted advertising is carried out almost exclusively by means of cookies or other similar technologies (hereinafter “cookies“). A cookie does not allow you to be identified directly. It allows its issuer to recognize your terminal and to collect a certain amount of information relating to the browsing that you carry out from this terminal. For more information, please refer to our Cookies Policy. The deposit of cookies can only be carried out with your consent except in certain specific cases. You can manage your consents at any time via our CMP.
The main purpose of this processing is to create user profiles in order to serve you targeted advertising.
Please note that refusing to give your consent to view targeted advertising does not mean that you will no longer see advertising on the Site, but that the advertisements displayed will no longer be personalized according to your Personal Data.

When you view our video content on the Site, you may watch it using a number of video players we utilize globally.
YouTube API
One of those players is the unbranded version of YouTube video player developed by Google Ireland Ltd, which acts as a separate and independent data controller to offer you the best experience by watching our video content. This may involve processing of your Personal Data. Please read YouTube’s Terms of Service since by watching our videos hosted by YouTube, you agree to be bound by those Terms of Service. Dailymotion
Dailymotion video player also acts as a separate and independent data controller to offer you the best experience by watching our video content that may involve processing of your Personal Data. Jwplayer

How do we use your Personal Data from YouTube and external video players?
Euronews uses aggregated Personal Data from the YouTube API, Dailymotion and Jwplayer by virtue of a legitimate interest to establish statistics on our video content and their performance. Euronews needs to employ external video players to display its video content as a media. This is necessary to ensure an optimum user viewing experience. After weighing our legitimate interest mentioned above against your fundamental rights and freedoms, we believe that our legitimate interest does not override your fundamental rights and freedoms and that such legitimate interest can be reasonably expected by you when you watch news content on our website. Euronews does not use aggregated Personal Data to re-identify you or for any marketing purposes.
The Site may contain links to other sites not belonging to Euronews. When you click on such links, please refer to the Personal Data protection policies of each of these sites, whose processing of Personal Data is not carried out by Euronews.
4. Who has access to your Personal Data and to whom is it disclosed?
Your Personal Data can be accessed by our internal services in charge of the management of the Services. In order to achieve the purposes for which a Processing is put in place, and therefore provide you with our Services, Euronews must sometimes use service providers and share your Personal Data with them. These service providers, called Data Processors, may be located within the European Economic Area or outside. Euronews signs a Personal Data protection agreement with each of its Data Processors to ensure the security of your Personal Data. When a Data Processor is located outside the European Economic Area or its activity is carried out outside the European Economic Area, and this Data Processor or its activity is not located in a country which has been subject to an adequacy decision adopted by the European Commission, Euronews implements appropriate measures such as the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission in order to ensure an adequate level of protection of your Data. A copy of the guarantees implemented are available on request.
5. What are your rights?
As a Data subject, you have rights specifically defined in the Data Protection Law in relation to your Personal Data that we process.
Your rights depend on the legal basis for each Processing purpose.

Right of access: you have the right to access the Personal Data we hold about you at any time. We can communicate to you the categories of Data, the purposes of Processing, the retention period or the criteria used to determine it, and the recipients of your Data.
Right of rectification: if you notice or believe that we hold inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data, you have the right to ask us to modify them.
Right to erasure: you can request the erasure of your Data as soon as they are no longer necessary with regard to the purposes of the Processing for which they were processed, that you withdraw your Consent when the latter is the legal basis of the Processing, that your Personal Data has been unlawfully processed, that you oppose the Processing of your Data when the latter is based on a legitimate interest.
Please note that your right to erasure will be limited in the following cases:
– to exercise the right of freedom of expression and information
– to comply with a legal obligation;
– for archiving purposes in the public interest, for scientific or historical research purposes or for statistical purposes
– for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
Right to restriction of Processing: you can request the limitation of the Processing of your Data if:
– you dispute the accuracy of your Data, for the time necessary for us to verify its accuracy,
– the Processing is unlawful and you request the limitation of the Processing rather than the erasure of your Data,
– we no longer need your Data for the purposes of the Processing, but you request them to establish, exercise or defend legal claims,
– you object to the Processing, while we verify whether our legitimate reasons prevail over yours.

The fate of your Personal Data after your death
