Ian Somerhalder reveals he and wife Nikki Reed have quit fame in favour of becoming business owners: 'I think acting is in the rear-view mirror'

Ian Somerhalder and his wife Nikki Reed have ditched fame in favour of becoming full-time business owners.

Actor Ian, 45, shot to fame for starring as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries while Nikki, 36, became known for her role as Rosalie Hale in the Twilight franchise.

But Ian told how the couple have both put acting on the back burner in favour of becoming entrepreneurs and raising their children.

The pair got married in 2015 and are parents to Bodhi Soleil, seven, and Eagle, two.

Speaking to People magazine about his acting career, Ian said: 'I think it's in the rear-view mirror. I do.

'Well, I dunno, we got the rights back for V Wars, but I just don't know how the hell we would ever make a TV show. We're building three companies at the same time, raising kids.'

Nikki confirmed she is also no longer acting, saying: 'I work over 90 hours a week right now. I'm running a company full time and just launched another, a shared company with the Absorption Company.

'And I just can't imagine being able to pivot my energy away, but there's no door closed.'

Nikki and Ian starred alongside each other in the sci-fi show V-Wars on Netflix but it was cancelled after one season. 

In a previous interview, Ian told how he has found running businesses more fulfulling than his acting career.

He told People: 'August 19th makes five years since I was professionally on camera as an actor/producer. I stepped away from that after V-Wars to build these companies, launch films like Kiss the Ground, Common Ground and Ground Swell,' he said.

'I remember sitting with my management talking about this, saying, "Hey, this is the only thing I've ever known that's ever sustained my family, and I'm walking away from it," at this sort of peak, could have gone and done anything, but these partnerships mean way more to me.

'I say this in all humility, in all respect, but I would much rather do this than go spend two months in some city, shooting a TV show away from my family or transporting my family back and forth.'

Ian and his wife began dating in 2014, and they tied the knot the following year.

He was previously linked to his Vampire Diaries costar Nina Dobrev.

Meanwhile, Nikki was previously married to Paul McDonald from 2011 until 2015.
