RECAP Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League action from the Etihad Stadium.

This live blog has now closed.

That's all from us today but thank you very much for following along on what turned out to be a remarkable evening.

Tottenham fans will be bouncing all the way back to London, but there will be some soul-searching tonight for Pep Guardiola as he saw his side lose five on the bounce for the first time.

We hope you have a great rest of the evening and catch you next time!

20:32

State of play

So that's seven games down and three to go this weekend, but how does the Premier League table look?

Well, this is happy viewing for Liverpool fans, whereas City supporters might want to turn away now.

The Reds could extend their lead at the top to eight points if they beat lowly Southampton tomorrow - and we're not even a third of the way through the season!

20:28

Worrying signs for Pep

It's not just five defeats on the trot for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, but according to the statistics they are deserving to lose these games.

That is a worrying sign for any manager and the next few weeks will prove to be pivotal for the Spaniard if he is to rescue City's season.

We would be a fool to write them off, but the display this evening is one of the worst City performances I can remember in a long time.

20:23

PLAYER RATINGS

There were several stunning displays tonight from Ange Postecoglou's side and a few horror ones from Manchester City's players, but who gets Mail Sport's Player of the Match?

Our very own JACK GAUGHAN was at the Etihad and he's rated both teams' stars below.

20:19

WATCH: Spurs stun City

Man City fans look away now, but if you're a Tottenham supporter and you want to watch back that remarkable game, take a look at the highlights from The Etihad below.

The way Spurs cut the hosts open so easily for each goal is really quite alarming for Pep Guardiola and you can be sure he'll be scratching his head tonight.

That's FIVE (yes FIVE) defeats in a row for City in a sentence that I can barely believe I'm typing.

20:11

Guardiola: 'We are struggling'

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City boss, told Sky Sports:

We do not expect opponents to not create chances and score goals. We're in the moment. We started really well, we had chances and after the first time they arrive we concede. Then it's a bit more difficult to come back.
Chances were there. The moment they create the chances the build-up, we coudn't handle the duels like normally. Now we're struggling a little bit. It cannot happen. When you play top level teams we can concede chances but it's part of porcess. In our situation it's a bit tougher.
I have to see the situation. The players came back late [from internationals]. There were a few reasons we're not able to be consistent. Now the balance is not in the right moment. But it happened. We have to do it, talk and on Tuesday against Feyenoord have the chance to try.
Of course, Rodri is important but we knew that for many months. But Stones can only play 45 minutes. Jack has been injured many times. Kevin, two months and five months. We have to come back and freshen our minds. The season is so long. Many things can happen.
Before the game I didn't know what will happen today. So I don't know what will happen at Anfield. Everyone knows the situation is new for us. We struggled more without the ball. I don't know how many chances we created. Our game was there.

Maddison: 'I've never doubted myself'

James Maddison, Tottenham goalscorer, speaking to BBC Sport:

That's a birthday I’ll look back on quite fondly. To come here to the champions and perform like that and get the result. You have to cherish these ones, they don’t come around often.
I thought we were brilliant. It was everything we wanted to show of a top Spurs team. We were clinical, we had cutting edge, we pressed at times. We weathered the storm, had grit and determination and scored four brilliant goals.
I feel good, I came out of team for a couple of games. When you come out of the team as a senior player or leader people ask questions and point fingers, but I feel good, I never doubted myself. I’m an attacking midfielder, I need to chip in with goals and assists but I haven’t been doing that this season.

Pep's bogey team

Pep Guardiola must be sick of the sight of Tottenham.

The Spaniard has now lost a total of nine games against them in his career, more than against anyone else.

Two of those have come this season, both in the last 25 days.

He will be thankful that he only has to face them on one more occasion this season.

19:59

The brilliant birthday boy

James Maddison has had one hell of a 28th birthday.

I bet he could not have wished for a better present than two goals and a 4-0 win away at Manchester City.

If only it were his birthday every week, imagine where Spurs would be.

Maddison was sensational today. He ran the game and came up with two excellent finishes.

For the lack of game time he has had, and after all the criticism, that was a superb way to shut people up.

His best display in a Spurs shirt.

19:56

Postecoglou: 'A significant result'

Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham boss, speaking to Sky Sports:

It’s significant when you understand the context of who we were playing. I’m proud of the lads, the football we played, the resilience and discipline we showed. When you play City they test every aspect of your game and we handled that well.
It was an important game for us, the way the boys reacted [to defeat to Ipswich]. It’s easy when you’re under pressure to splinter off but I never got the sense that would happen this week.
The disappointing thing over the last few games is we’ve fallen well short of the kind of team we want to be. But I've no doubt we are on the right track.

On James Maddison:

He was outstanding. You have to be against City, and Madders was great. He’s gone through a lean spell but I never doubted his ability. I thought the kind of game we were expecting would suit him.
I thought we'd need his ability to keep the ball in tight midfield areas. I take it personally on myself if players aren't reaching their level, that’s on me to get him back up there.

A historic defeat

Not many defeats are so big that they break many records.

Well, Spurs victory over Manchester City has done just that, it is in the history books for several reasons.

It is the joint-biggest defeat that Pep Guardiola has suffered in his whole career after City's 4-0 loss at Everton in 2017.

Not only that, but it's the first time Guardiola's City have ever lost three league matches on the spin.

And the final nail in the coffin is that it's the biggest defeat City have ever suffered while playing at the Etihad.

One for the record books.

Stunning Spurs

Right, it's time to give Tottenham some praise.

Yes, we are all gobsmacked at just how poor Manchester City are at the moment. I mean, they are crumbling.

However. Spurs were absolutely superb tonight.

They came in with a make-shift defence and also came off the back of a loss to Ipswich and still managed to win.

They didn't just beat City, they battered them.

From the 10th minute onward, they were simply sublime both going forward and at the back.

A glorious day for them.

Haaland humbled

Oh dear, Erling...

Manchester City's main man is really struggling at this moment in time, and that was evident today.

When he told Mike Arteta to 'stay humble' after City's draw with Arsenal, he had scored 10 goals in five Premier League games.

He has scored just two in seven matches since. Yikes.

'A sobering day for City'

Gary Neville, former Man United captain, on Sky Sports:

It’s a sobering day for City. Guardiola is out on the pitch fronting it up. After what happened vs Ipswich, I remember Ange’s face on the pitch at Brighton, he was looking into space, that is one hell of a performance.
Pep has a lot to think about, there is far more than just Rodri. But Spurs played some wonderful stuff, but most of all they were hard to beat, and focused. They were consistent and reliable.

19:34

WATCH: Johnson compounds City misery

This was the icing on the cake for Tottenham.

They were already home and hosed. They had already humbled the champions. But no, they just wanted to rub it in.

Just look at how Timno Werner glides past Kyle Walker as if he is not there, it's bonkers.

A brilliant goal to cap off an exceptional performance.

19:32

'Pep's deal had no bounce'

This place has emptied so quickly. Pep’s new deal hasn’t had the bounce in results they’d hoped – even if City have actually played slightly better than in previous weeks today, as strange as that might seem.
19:30

City in CRISIS

I am simply stunned...

It has been clear that Manchester City have been struggling, but nobody expected that result.

To lose five games on the bounce is bad enough, but City have just been well and truly humbled in their own backyard.

If Liverpool win tomorrow, they could be eight points behind the Reds after only 12 matches, and they have to pay them next week.

It's a dark day in the Guardiola reign, maybe even the darkest.

FULL-TIME: Man City 0-4 Tottenham

Wow...

I am at a loss for words, I really am. Tottenham have shipped four past Manchester City without reply at the Etihad.

What was a blip for Pep Guardiola's side is now turning into a crisis.

Don't take any credit away from Spurs today, though, they were simply sensational all evening.

An unbelievable night for the Londoners.

19:23, 93'

Goal:Man City 0-4 Tottenham (Johnson 90+3')

TOTTENHAM HAVE A FOURTH!

This has turned from a bad loss to an embarrassing one for Manchester City, they are being hammered.

Timo Werner turns on the afterburners down the left and squares the ball for Brennan Johnson to tap home.

The visitors are having the time of their lives.

YELLOW CARD: Man City 0-3 Tottenham (Akanji)

Now Manuel Akanji goes into the book.

Lucas Bergvall breaks away from him with ease and he just opts to haul him down.

I mean, he was dusted...

19:22

FOUR added minutes

Manchester City have four painful more minutes to endure.

The fans have already have enough, the Etihad is practically empty as the board is trusted in the air by the fourth official.

19:21, 90'

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 0-3 Tottenham

There will be no hat-trick for James Maddison.

The midfielder is applauded off by the way fans in the corner after a superb display on his birthday.

He is replaced by Timo Werner for the final few minutes here.

Lucas Bergvall and Djed Spence are also on for Pape Sarr and Destiny Udogie.

19:18, 87'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

It's time for the time wasting...

Destiny Udogie goes down with cramp under no pressure whatsoever while Manchester City prepare to launch in a corner.

He is then hauled up by his own players and told to get on with it.

19:16, 85'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

This is getting silly now...

Another chance comes Manchester City's way, but yet again it goes begging.

Josko Gvardiol is played through in the area but can't keep his effort on target.

The flag does then go up, though.

19:15, 84'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

I must say, it's slightly bonkers that Manchester City have not scored tonight.

They are creating chance after chance but just can't find that elusive goal.

Bernardo Silva is the next player to see his effort fly over the bar after the ball came his way.

I think Tottenham fans can now relax...

19:11, 80'

MASSIVE SAVE! Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Oooooh, it's starting to bubble over here!

Firstly, Erling Haaland is through but somehow Vicario manages to deny him with a huge stop.

There is then a foul in the aftermath and it all starts kicking off with Kevin De Bruyne outraged.

Both he and Pape Sarr are handed yellow cards for their involvement in starting the handbags.

We love a bit of needle!

19:09, 78'

YELLOW CARD: Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Oh dear...

James Maddison has been so good that Bernardo Silva has resorted to hacking him down from behind.

I mean, it does stop the breakaway.

However, unsurprisingly he is handed a booking for the terrible tackle.

19:08, 77'

BIG SAVE! Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Vicario comes up trumps for Tottenham!

Ilkay Gundogan is in and looks set to pull a goal back for the hosts, but the Italian stands strong to beat it away.

He then roars in celebration like he has just scored a last-minute winner, that is how much it means.

It could be a huge save.

19:05, 74'

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Pep Guardiola has seen enough...

Kevin De Bruyne has been called upon to try and do some damage in these final 15 or so minutes.

Not a bad person to call upon, eh?

Well, he replaces Savinho while Jack Grealish is on for Rico Lewis. Can they make a difference?

19:04, 73'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Manchester City just don't look like scoring whatsoever...

Phil Foden has their first shot on target of this half but it's a pretty pants one.

His low drive just dribbles into Vicario's gloves harmlessly.

19:00, 69'

CHANCE! Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Erling Haaland has been miles off his best today...

He keeps getting chance after chance, but that usually cutting-edge finishing is nowhere to be seen.

A cross is hung up for him and he rises highest to meet it as usual.

But he just can't get his head over the ball and blazes his header miles over the bar.

18:57, 66'

BIG SAVE! Man City 0-3 Tottenham

It's a joke how good Dejan Kulusevski is!

The Swede is in the form of his life and nearly makes it four as he breaks down the right.

He toys with the Manchester City defence before Ederson just about manages to hook his shot away.

Kulusevski is just so, so brilliant.

18:54, 63'

SUBSTITUTION: Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou turns to the bench.

Surprisingly, it's captain Son Heung-Min who he decides to bring off, replacing him with Brennan Johnson.

James Maddison then takes the armband.

18:53, 62'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Manchester City are suddenly turning it on.

This time it's Josko Gvardiol who goes for goal and looks for the bottom corner.

But goalscorer Pedro Porro throws himself in the way and manages to hook the ball clear.

18:52, 60'

HIT THE BAR! Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Oh, that's so unlucky from Erling Haaland.

Yves Bissouma gives the ball away under pressure and Haaland just decides to have a crack from a tight angle.

It's a lovely strike that clips just off the bar and over. It's just not been his day at all.

That's much better, though.

18:49, 58'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

Credit to the Manchester City fans, they are not staying quiet throughout this night of misery for their side.

If anything, they are now louder than they have been all night as they try to encourage their side.

The players really do need lifting here, they look out on their feet.

18:47, 55'

YELLOW CARD: Man City 0-3 Tottenham (Lewis)

The frustration is there for all to see.

Rico Lewis gets Manchester City's first booking of the match - they are all over the place.

The look on his face just shows that he is lost for words, as are we all.

18:45, 55'

Man City 0-3 Tottenham

This really is crazy...

I just can't believe what we are witnessing here, Manchester City have fallen apart.

Surely three goals is too much for City to claw back?

18:43, 53'

Goal:Man City 0-3 Tottenham (Porro 53')

This is truly unbelievable!

Tottenham have three and it's Pedro Porro against his former side to compile their misery.

But it's all about Dejan Kulusevski who somehow wriggles past three players in the middle of the park before setting his side on the counter.

The ball is whipped to Dominic Solanke who pulls the ball back from Porro to sweep home.

He doesn't celebrate, but the away end goes bananas for him.

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

The Etihad crowd are really trying to rally their side.

'Champions again' rings around the stadium while Tottenham continue to control this match.

Soon enough, the chants turn to groans and Manuel Aanji fouls James Maddison.

There have been more groans than Manchester City passes in this match, I swear.

18:39, 48'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Tottenham are looking really confident in the early stages of this half.

They are knocking it about with authority and James Maddison is just spraying the ball where he likes.

Surely there will be a reaction from City at some point, though, right?

18:36, 46'

SECOND HALF: Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Yep, Nathan Ake is on and John Stones is off.

The two teams are back out and raring to go while the Etihad still looks reasonably empty. The fans are still having a few pints, I assume.

Anyway, the ball is rolling once more in Manchester.

18:35

Ake set to come on

It looks as though Pep Guardiola is making a change at the break.

Nathan Ake has been going through an intense warm up and he is already in his full kit.

We believe John Stones will be the man to make way. I expected some changes to be made, but not this one, I must admit.

Will it work, though?

18:30

We've been here before...

It's not completely panic stations for Manchester City yet.

This is not the first time they have been 2-0 down to Tottenham at half-time at the Etihad.

They were in this predicament two seasons ago while Spurs played under Antonio Conte.

City went on to score four second-half goals without reply and win the Premier League for the third season running.

Can they do it again?

'City have been vulnerable'

Brilliant half-time score from Tottenham’s perspective and just the impact from Maddison that Postecoglou would have hoped for. Maddison is the only player in this starting line-up to have not been on international duty. Probably the reason Postecoglou was determined to start him.
City started well enough and have opened Spurs up and created chances but they have been vulnerable at the back. Gvardiol sloppy in different ways on the two goals. They do miss Rodri’s ability to stop the counter-attack. But there’s more to it than that.

City stunned

The first 20 minutes of that half were chaotic, to say the least.

Manchester City came flying out of the traps and could easily have been two ahead by the 10th minute.

Then two Tottenham goals in seven minutes turned the game on its head. A real quickfire double.

In fact, it is the earliest Manchester City have been 2-0 down in a Premier League home game since December 2010.

If this was boxing, that would have been knockdown after a one-two combination.

Spurs were clinical.

WATCH: Maddison nets his second

I decided to pick this goal out of the two to show you.

Why? Well, it's because it is a thing of beauty from Tottenham and James Maddison.

The way they work the ball after Josko Gvardiol gives it away is simply sublime.

And the finish, my word, it's elegant.

18:20

HALF-TIME: Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Well, who saw that coming?

Tottenham lead Manchester City at the Etihad after two strikes from James Maddison.

Bar the first ten minutes, City have been incredibly poor - the worst I have seen them in some time.

The champions have a lot of work to do.

THREE added minutes

There will be three minutes of stoppage time here.

I bet Pep Guardiola wants these to go as quick as possible so he can get stuck into his side in the dressing room.

18:16, 44'

CHANCE! Man City 0-2 Tottenham

You're no Sammie Szmodics, Phil...

Foden tries to replicate what the Ipswich man managed two weeks ago against Tottenham.

Bernardo Silva floats the ball into him and he acrobatically volleys the ball toward goal.

He gets it all wrong, though, and it goes wide.

18:14, 42'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

What is going on?

Now Bernanrdo Silva is the Manchester City player who dwells on the ball too long and gives it away.

Tottenham nearly take advantage but Yves Bissouma wastes the opportunity when it comes his way.

I can't believe how sloppy City have been.

18:13, 40'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

The Manchester City fans are not happy with Vicariuo...

he has gone down again and is seeking medical attention after that collision with Savinho.

Maybe it was worse than I thought.

It looks like he is OK to continue after a few checks. The magic sponge doing what it does best.

18:11, 38'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Oh, come on Vicario...

The Italian goalkeeper is rolling around on the floor after a tame collision with Savinho.

The winger looked like he was through but the Spurs man claimed the ball by the edge of his box just in time, before a light nudge.

For some reason, he decides it's enough to go down like he has been shot. Bizarre.

I hope they don't time waste already.

18:09, 37'

CHANCE! Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Savinho is desperate to get that first goal, he really is.

No luck so far, though, as he drives the ball into the gloves of Vicario from distance.

It is a decent hit, but it's just not far enough in the corner to trouble the keeper.

Maybe it's just not his day...

Pep has discarded the winter coat. The rain has ceased in Manchester and the City boss is down to the knitwear layer. Maybe feeling the heat… Ange enjoying the comfort of his grey sleeping bag coat. His hands deep in pockets. Slight recline back from the waist.

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

The lack of Rodri in this team can't be understated here...

Manchester City's midfield looks so brittle, it's being bypassed with ease by the visitors.

I mean, he is in the crowd, is there now way the ACL is healed already for a quick substitution?

18:04

'Very strange'

Very strange half, this. City are playing with the energy and determination of a team desperate to get out of their recent slump but have been below par in both boxes. Spurs have seemed a touch ragged in the middle third but lethal when given the opportunity.
18:04, 31'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Vicario is having a belting game, it has to be said.

While Manchester City have been poor, he has still turned up with some huge saves.

He produces another from Savinho to somehow stop his effort from going into the top corner.

It turns out the Brazilian is offside anyway, though.

CHANCE! Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Manchester City are getting ripped apart, this is simply unbelievable.

Like a knife through butter, Tottenham cut through them again and this time Dominic Solanke has his eyes set on goal.

He lets fly of a decent strike but Ederson just does enough to tip it over the bar.

I'm not sure I have ever seen City this poor...

17:58, 26'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

That effort just sums up Manchester City's half.

Josko Gvardiol feeds Phil Foden, who is under pressure, and he manages to get the shot away.

It's such a tame effort though and it rolls shamelessly wide of the post.

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

I am struggling to believe what I am watching, in all honesty.

Manchester City look shot of any confidence and Tottenham are waltzing through them at will.

At this rate, it could be three or four before half-time.

17:55, 23'

Man City 0-2 Tottenham

I don't think I have ever heard the Etihad like this.

The Manchester City fans are groaning at every chance they get and do so again as Erling Haaland blasts over.

The frustration is clear and it's bleeding through to the players on the pitch.

They are having a terrible time out there.

Goal:Man City 0-2 Tottenham (Maddison 20')

TOTTENHAM ARE IN DREAMLAND AT THE ETIHAD!

James Maddison has another on his birthday and this one is an even better goal.

Josko Gvardiol gives the ball away and the visitors then put a lovely string of passes together before Maddison is slid through.

He then delicately chips Ederson to stun Manchester City once more.

Not many expected this...

BIG SAVE! Man City 0-1 Tottenham

So close to a screamer!

Spurs just have that heir of confidence all of a sudden and Son Heung-Min decides he wants to bend one in from 30 yards.

It's a pinpoint strike and looks destined to hit the back of the net, but Ederson tips it around the post at full stretch.

17:49

'Spurs fans found their voice'

Spurs fans have found their voices after the goal. The Londoners had been under pressure, barely out on the break before the goal, a long pass by Dragusin to Kulusevski, allowed by Gvardiol to cut inside onto his left foot and pick out Maddison on the run. Good finish left foot volley, his fourth of the season and a happy birthday.
17:48, 16'

CHANCE! Man City 0-1 Tottenham

What a response that would have been...

Phil Foden makes a beeline for the edge of the area and just decides to let fly.

It's a brilliant hit from the Englishman but it flies agonisingly over the bar.

It brings groans from the crowd - they are not a happy bunch.

17:47, 15'

Man City 0-1 Tottenham

That was the first touch from Tottenham in the Manchester City box, and it's a goal.

I don't know what it is about this Spurs side but they just always manage to hurt City.

Goal:Man City 0-1 Tottenham (Maddison 13')

OUT OF NOWHERE!

Dejan Kulusevski, take a bow. The Swede beats Josko Gvardiol to the ball and then swings an incredible cross into the area.

James Maddison then ghosts behind the defense to tap home to put Tottenham ahead with their first attack.

What a birthday present for the midfielder.

GOOD SAVE! Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Another big chance for Erling Haaland goes begging!

He really is a human being, normally he takes these in his sleep.

This time he drives the ball toward the bottom corner but Vicario gets low and manages to beat it away with his feet.

FPL managers across the country get more annoyed...

17:42, 10'

Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham love to counter against Manchester City and they now have their first of the evening.

Son Heung-Min does well down the left and searches for Dejan Kulusevski in the six-yard box.

It's a great ball but the Swede just can't reach it.

17:39, 8'

Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham just can't get out of their own half, the pressure is relentless.

Kyle Walker is even trying to cause problems moving forward as the ball is whipped to the back post.

The captain races in to meet it but just can't get a touch on the ball to turn it home.

A very positive start from the hosts.

17:37, 5'

CHANCE! Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Erling Haaland, is that you?

The Manchester City forward is slid through in acres of space and you just expect the net to ripple.

I even said 'goal' as the ball came to his feet.

But no, he hesitates on the ball and his effort ends up being deflected wide by Ben Davies.

Is that a lack of confidence?

17:35, 4'

Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Manchester City have come out all guns blazing at the start of this match.

They are all over Tottenham like a rash and Phil Foden is finding himself with the ball with regularity.

The visitors need to try and ride this early pressure out. Easier said than done.

17:34

'A reminder of Bissouma's red cards'

Crikey… a yellow for Bissouma inside 12 seconds is a reminder that he was sent off twice in quick succession this time last year. It’s the last thing Spurs need with Bentancur facing his seven matches out.
17:33, 1'

YELLOW CARD: Man City 0-0 Tottenham

It's going to be a long night for Yves Bissouma...

He is already in the book for a tackle on Phil Foden after just 12 seconds of this match.

The midfielder will have to be on his best behaviour all night now.

17:32, 1'

KICK-OFF: Man City 0-0 Tottenham

This has the feeling of a cracker, it really does.

Both sets of supporters are in fine voice before the rock version of Blue Moon blasts out of the speakers.

Now the time for talking is over, the game is underway.

17:29

Here come the teams!

Sadly, there is no light show as the two teams come out of the tunnel.

The City fans are in fine voice, though, as they sing 'Hey Jude' before boiling the Premier League anthem.

They must dislike it as much as me - a rubbish tune.

Thankfully it doesn't last long and the chants are back in full flow as some techno music begins.

I am feeling pumped, are you?

17:26

'Quite the welcome back'

Quite a welcome back for Rodri with a lights show as he was asked to show off the Ballon d’Or trophy before kick-off. Perhaps not the personality to relish such pomp though…
17:24

Rodri returns

Nope, he is not back in the squad today...

I just thought I would be cheeky and try and fool you with the sub-heading. I know, silly me.

Rodri is currently out on the pitch at the Etihad to show off his shiny Ballon d'Or.

His name is being displayed in big shiny lights behind him, which is pretty cool.

It must be nice for him to be back on that grass, even if he is not playing.

He looks emotional.

Bentancur's ban

Many of you will know by now that Rodrigo Bentancur is not involved today.

Why, you ask?

He has been hit with a seven-match domestic ban by the FA for an alleged racist remark made about team-mate Son Heung-Min.

It's one of the largest suspensions to ever have been handed out in the Premier League era.

Tottenham's troubles on the road

The word trouble and Tottenham just seem to go hand-in-hand at the moment.

It's fair to say, this season just has not been plain sailing.

Ange Postecoglou's Spurs have been really struggling on the road and not just this season.

Tottenham have only won two of their past 11 away matches in the Premier League, losing seven of those.

In their five this season, they have only won once...

When you turn up to a place like the Etihad with a record like that, the odds will obviously not be in your favour.

City to break another record?

Manchester City absolutely love making history, don't they?

Well, Pep Guardiola could make some today, but it's not the type of record he will want...

If Manchester City lose today it will be the first time under the Spaniard that they have lost three league games in a row.

The last time they did that was under Manuel Pellegrini in March 2016, which included a defeat to Tottenham at the Etihad.

I mean, that was a hell of a long time ago. My word.

Under my umbrella...

Eh, eh, eh... sing it with me.

I'm hoping the majority of you understand that subheading and opening sentence, if not I look very silly.

I'll give you a hint, it has to do with Rihanna's hit single about protecting yourself from the rain.

It seems like a lot of media and supporters are doing just that as it continues to drizzle in the north west.

I must admit, I like the pink one, it's groovy.

Maddison's birthday present

It's a huge day for James Maddison...

Not only because he is celebrating his 28th birthday, but he is back in the starting line-up.

It's been a topsy-turvy season for him thus far, he hasn't been the usual constant in the side that he was last season.

We have become accustomed to seeing Dejan Kulusevski take his central role and Brennan Johnson go out wide.

Not today, though, Ange Postecoglou has put his faith back in him.

Can he deliver?

'One surprise selection'

At City, where it’s damp… one little surprise in the Spurs selection is that Maddison is in rather than Johnson which will mean Kulusevski back on the wing. Kulusevski has been so impressive in a central role and Johnson is the top scorer this season.
Postecoglou will be conscious of his limited range of options from the bench, especially in central defence with Romero and Van de Ven injured. Bissouma and Gray have played there in emergencies and there are five teenagers on the bench, including Malachi Hardy, a 16-year-old centre-half.
16:49

Tottenham in town

Brennan Johnson does not seem to be bothered by the rain, does he?

I'm surprised he is smiling so much when he has been dropped, you'd have thought he'd be gutted.

Other than Johnson, the rest of the team does look rather down...

STAT PACK: Man City vs Tottenham

Guess what? Yep, it's stat pack time.

Our good friends at Squawka have provided us with the goods yet again to build up the hype for this belter of a fixture.

As you can see, both Tottenham and Manchester City love going forward and scoring goals.

I'm just hoping they do the same today so we can witness another classic.

16:37

City's Spurs struggles

Tottenham have always been Pep Guardiola's bogey team.

No matter how superior Manchester City are, Spurs always seem to cause them problems.

The champions have only won three of the past 10 Premier League meetings with the north London side, losing five of them.

Spurs were also the side that started this terrible run they are on, beating them 2-1 at home in the Carabao Cup.

Will they cause City more problems today?

I mean, usually, I would say no going by their line-up, but you genuinely just never know.

'I am certain City will win'

Sergio Aguero, Manchester City record goalscorer, speaking to Stake:

The past matches against Tottenham have been quite tricky for Man City but each match is a world of its own, times change for each team.
I think we'll see City rally after the shortcomings of the last few weeks. Even if there are a few injuries that still trouble the squad, I am certain our side will come on top.
16:29

It's raining, it's pouring

Cheer up, Ange...

The Tottenham boss does not seem to be happy at the fact it's raining cats and dogs in Manchester.

The weather has simply been relentless in that part of the country this week. One minute it's snowing, the next it's chucking it down.

I'm sure he won't be looking this glum if his side comes out with the win today, will he?

This picture just makes me glad I am currently sitting inside.

16:24

'Debate over City line-up'

There is some debate about how City will line up in attacking areas. All of Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Savinho can play right across the three behind Erling Haaland. My guess would be Foden in the middle with Silva right-hand side.
16:22

Tottenham's defensive troubles

If I was a Tottenham fan, I would be a little worried.

Spurs's defence isn't fantastic at the best of times, even when they do have Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at the back.

Now they have to settle for both Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies against one of the most lethal defences in the world.

Yes, they may be decent players on their day, but against a striker like Erling Haaland you have to be more than 'decent'.

I sense we will see a lot of goals today.

Tottenham Team News - Davies STARTS

How are we feeling Tottenham fans?

With the injury problems they have, Spurs' centre-back pairing is Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies.

Not the sturdiest, I have to say.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski do both start, though, as Ange Postecoglou is going for it.

It looks like Kulusevski will be on the wing.

16:15

Man City Team News - Gundogan STARTS

Right, the team news is in.

Ilkay Gundogan lines up in midfield alongside Bernardo Silva in what is a very attacking team.

Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji and John Stones are both fit enough to start at the back for Pep Guardiola's side.

With all the injuries they have, this is still very strong.

16:12

Spurs in need of points

Tottenham have had such a bizarre season, haven't they?

One week they will thump a team like Aston Villa and the next they will lose to Ipswich at home.

I sound like a broken record, but you just never know which Spurs you are going to be getting.

They are truly the most inconsistent side in the division.

Many will think after their humbling to the Tractor Boys last week that they will have no chance against the champions.

But that's just not how they work.

Based on their past under Ange Postecoglou, there is no reason why Spurs can't cause City major problems today.

Still, when you are in need of points, the Etihad is not where you want to go.

Which Tottenham will turn up?

Guardiola: 'I could not leave now'

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City boss, speaking about his contract:

I felt I could not leave now. Maybe the four defeats were why. I think we deserve, after four defeats in a row, to bounce back and try to turn the situation. I think we deserve to be here. I am not arrogant to say, but it's the truth.
We have to recover that because right now we don't have it and that's the target we have to do. This is my ninth season here. We have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club. Hopefully, now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.

Guardiola's big midweek boost

It's not been all bad for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City of late.

Sure, they have been under their worst run ever under the Spaniard and are currently five points off the top of the Premier League.

But still, Guardiola is determined to turn it around.

He is so insistent on resolving things that he put pen to paper on a one-year contract in the week.

With all the uncertainty about his future beforehand, that was huge news for the club.

It will most certainly give the players a boost after the knock-in confidence they have so clearly had.

Expect to see a very driven City side today.

Can City stop the rot?

This one is going to be tasty, isn't it?

It has already been an entertaining return to Premier League action today, but we are saving the best until last.

Manchester City and Tottenham have played out some absolute Premier League classics in the last few years.

Every time these two take to the pitch, whether it be at the Etihad or Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they always deliver.

City are in dire need of a win after losing four consecutive matches in all competitions for the first time under Pep Guardiola.

Meanwhile, Spurs will be hoping their Dr. Jekyll side comes out today after their shock defeat at home to Ipswich two weeks ago.

Whatever happens, it's sure to be a belter. Don't go anywhere.
