Premier League RECAP: Arsenal complete comeback against Saints as Man City face late scare

Right, it's time for me to say goodbye.

I know, it's the saddest part of my day, but many of you will now have your focus set on this evening's clash between Everton and Newcastle.

It's a match that will bring to an end what has been a fabulous day of premier League footie, the action has been relentless.

There were 23 goals across the 3pm kick-offs, with eight of those coming in Brentford's smashing 5-3 win over Wolves.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal also took three goals, both coming from behind to beat Fulham and Southampton, respectively.

And last but not least, West ham and Leicester also got much-needed victories with wins over Ipswich and Bournemouth.

I think you are all caught up now.

So with that being said, it's time for me to head off. Have a lovely evening.

Before we part ways this evening, I thought I would be kind by putting all the results in one post.

I mean, some of you may have missed them all.

So, with that in mind, here are the 3pm results in full:

• Arsenal 3-1 Southampton
• Manchester City 3-2 Fulham
• West Ham 4-1 Ipswich
• Brentford 5-3 Wolves
• Leicester 1-0 Bournemouth

Don't worry bottom half teams, I haven't forgotten you...

There was a lot of movement between 11th and 20th this afternoon due to the bonkers results we just witnessed.

West Ham have climbed above Bournemouth with their superb win over Ipswich, while Leicester climbed up two spots.

Ipswich's loss didn't affect their position, but that's only because Crystal Palace, Wolves, and Southampton were all beaten.

It really isn't looking good for Gary O'Neil's side.

I think we should have a little cheeky look at the table, don't you?

Let's start with the top half, it's starting to look rather tasty between a certain three teams leading the way.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal are now within a point of Liverpool after their comeback wins.

Meanwhile, Brentford's thumping win over Wolves sees them climb up into ninth, what a start to the season they have had.

The table really is starting to take shape.

This does not look like the face of a man who has just seen his side win their first game of the season.

I mean, I expected Steve Cooper to be happier with Leicester picking up three points, but what do I know.

I'm sure deep down he is beaming with delight.

A victory was just what this Foxes side needed after a tough start to life back in the Premier League.

It sees them claw away from the relegation zone and up to 15th.

Cooper will be hoping this is a catalyst fr a run of form.

Phoar, now this is one hell of a statistic.

If today's victory wasn't already big enough for Arsenal, it was a landmark three points for the Gunners.

They have now won 400 matches at home in the Premier League era. That's a lot of games, isn't it?

Only Manchester United have won more at home with 428.

Manchester City just can't be beaten at the moment.

With that victory, Pep Guardiola's side are now unbeaten in their last 30 matches in the Premier League.

That's a nuts run of form, isn't it?

It matches the run they put together in 2017-18, the season they became 'Centurions' on their way to the Premier League title.

How long can they keep this going?

My word, that was bonkers, wasn't it?

23 goals across just the five matches in the 3pm kick-offs. No rest for the wicked in the Premier League.

Also, there wasn't a single draw which is a rarity in this league.

The day is not over yet, though, we still have Everton's clash with Newcastle to come.

I bet that will be a stalemate now...

The whistle goes at the Emirates.

After a fairly dull first half, this match came to life after the break when Southampton took a shock lead.

It didn't last long, though. Arsenal responded almost instantly and the rest is history.

An important three points.

An excellent and much-needed first home win for West Ham and Julen Lopetegui.

Jarrod Bowen responded to his omission from the England squad with a goal and two assists while there was also first goals of the season for Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta.

For Ipswich, the wait for a first league win goes on. They were poor here today and deservedly beaten.

There are huge cheers at the King Power as Leicester claim their first Premier League win of the season.

The Foxes had to work hard for it, but you can't say it's not deserved.

This afternoon's cracker is now at its end.

We can finally relax after one of the craziest matches I have covered in my career so far.

Eight goals and it's Brentford who come away with all three points.

Another damaging defeat for Wolves.

There are huge cheers from the London Stadium, you can see how much that win means.

At last, it all came together for Julen Lopetegui and he claims his first home Premier League win as West ham boss.

What a win it is, as well.

The champions hold on.

The unbeaten run at the Etihad rolls on for Manchester City and they keep the pressure on leaders Liverpool.

It didn't come easy, but in the end, they prove just too strong for Fulham.

OK, so we are not done with the goals over in west London.

Rayan Ait-Nouri rifles home a third goal for the visitors and celebrates by angrily kicking the floor.

I think that says it all, don't you?

A five-star performance is complete from Brentford!

The summer signing Fabio Carvalho has his first Premier League goal for the Bees and he won't score many easier.

He taps home from around two yards out to cap a wonderful display.

Bukayo Saka does get his goal!

The winger adds to his assists and kills the game off with a lovely low drive inside the area.

Southampton send everyone forward in search of an equaliser and lose the ball, then it's curtains for the visitors.

Ooooooh... could we have a game at the Etihad?

Reiss Nelson spots fellow substitute Rodrigo Muniz in the area and the striker makes no mistake.

The Man City fans are suddenly on the edge of their seats again.

Southampton really are giving this a good crack.

Adam Armstrong now crashes the crossbar as they search for an equaliser and David Raya is a mightily relieved man.

The goalkeeper completely misses the ball from a corner to leave Armstrong free, but he can't make him pay.

Man City have a third and that's game over!

It's one hell of a hit from Jeremy Doku to settle the champions' nerves and kill the game.

He drives at Timothy Castagne on the left and then just smashes the ball into the far top corner.

A sizzling effort.

Nearly a stunner from Tyler Dibling!

The 18-year-old does incredibly well to work some space on the edge of the area and then bends the ball toward the far corner.

His strike takes a slight deflection and then nicks the post on the way through.

Dibling is some player, he really is.

The Wolves fans are not happy in the corner, they are watching their side get battered in west London.

Bryan Mbeumo has a free header to make it five after a flurry of chances, but can't guide it home.

The away side are all over the place, it's tough to watch.

Arsenal really are on a roll now.

Bukayo Saka has a pair of assists already, but now he wants a goal for himself.

He has a crack but causes no trouble with the strike. He should do better, really.

This could get messy now.

Game, Set. Match.

Ipswich throw bodies forward in search of a goal back and are punished by a swift counter attack.

West Ham have players queuing up in the six-yard box to turn home the fourth and it's Lucas Paqueta who gets the joy of doing it.

Arsenal have turned it around!

The Emirates erupts as Gabriel Martinelli ghosts in at the back post to smash home a Bukayo Saka cross.

There is a long VAR check for offside, but the goal is given.

I've seen the strike, and I'm still not sure why they checked it for so long...

The visitors are level... oh wait, no they are not.

Lewis Cook has the ball in the back of the net but his celebrations are cut short.

The flag is up, and the Leicester stay ahead.

Brentford are showing no mercy, they want to score more.

Sam Johnstone is the only reason they do not have five as he makes a superb double save.

He first palms away a Christian Norgaard piledriver before getting up to deny Vitaly Janelt from close range.

What a response from Kai Havertz.

I was about to type that Arsenal now need to show their title credentials, and Kai Havertz must have been reading my mind.

The Gunners win the ball high up the pitch and Havertz smashes the ball into the net via the near post.

That's seven games in a row he has scored at the Emirates now.

The Emirates fall silent as Cameron Archer fires a lovely low drive beyond David Raya.

I don't think anybody was expecting this, were they?

So close to a Bournemouth equaliser!

Illia Zabarnyi looks like he is about to find the back of the net but watches his effort crash back off the post.

Jarrod Bowen capitalises on a horror mistake from the Ipswich goalkeeper to give West Ham breathing space.

With those two west ham strikes in the opening 45, the Tractor Boys have conceded nine first-half goals in seven games.

That's the most of any Premier League team so far this season. Not great.

Julen Lopetegui will be a happy man at the break.

His West Ham side lead and they are certainly good value for it. Bar from their equaliser, Ipswich have not been at the races.

One of the most bonkers halves of football has come to an end. It truly has been breathless.

It felt like every chance ended up in the back of the net.

So far, so good, for Leicester.

They are yet to win a match this season, but if they play like they just did in the first 45 minutes, that run could end today.

Steve Cooper's side deserve their lead.

Now this is not the game I expected to be goalless at half-time.

It's been all Arsenal, but as the half went on their frustrations grew. The chances came and went with regularity.

Still, they have plenty of time to go.

Brentford finally have some breathing space thanks to Ethan Pinnock.

Wolves are all over the place defending a corner and Pinnock is left all alone in the area.

West Ham have been all over Ipswich and get their just reward for all the pressure.

Michail Antonio hits the post and Kudus is the quickest to react to turn home.

Jorginho fancies a crack, which is not something I usually type, and he smashes a volley just wide of the post.

Raheem Sterling was lurking and if he was alert, could have nodded that ball into the net.

But he wasn't, he was away with the fairies.

We have a chance that hasn't gone in - two in fact!

Mohammed Kudus looks set to score as the ball is clipped over to him in the box, but his header hits the post.

The ball falls to him in the area following a corner and he smashes the ball beyond Bernd Leno via a deflection.

The hosts respond to Wolves' leveller within 120 seconds and it's their captain that delivers for them.

Christian Norgaard fires the ball into the far corner with aplomb.

Just six minutes after going behind, Jorgen Strand Larsen fires past Mark Flekken with a fine strike.

What a match this is proving to be.

Wow, Fulham lead at the home of the champions.

Raul Jiminez has been on fire this season and he has just provided one of the best assist I have ever seen.

He back heel chips the ball into the six-yard box for Andreas Pereira to smash home.

What an assist, what a goal.

Ooh, very nearly the opener for Fulham.

The visitors hit Man City on the counter as Raul Jimenez sends Adama Traore on his bike with a trivela pass.

The number 11 races away and is bearing down on goal, but he can't get the better of Ederson.

I bet Wolves fans remember that combination at the Etihad well...

What a penalty that is!

That is why Bryan Mbeumo is the penalty taker. He ambles up to the ball and then sends Sam Johnstone the wrong way with a thumping effort.

Brentford are back in front.

Nathan Collins, aren't you meant to be a defender?

The Brentford centre-back finds himself in the Wolves box again and this time he is hauled to the ground by Mario Lemina.

After a VAR check, the penalty is given.

The way he is playing, I'd let Collins take the spot kick... but he isn't, Bryan Mbeumo will step up.

Leicester hit the front!

And what a goal it is from Facundo Buonanotte. He picks up the ball on the right, drives into the box, and smashes the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The King Power is rocking, that's the type of football they have been hoping for all season.

The best goal of the day by far.

A perfect start for West Ham with Antonio putting them ahead after just 47 seconds. But his goal was quickly cancelled out by Delap at the other end. Now three goals in two games for the Ipswich striker.

Not too much excitement at the Etihad either.

Manchester City are working the ball around the Fulham backline in the hope of a lapse in concentration.

There hasn't been one, so far.

It's not been quite as exciting in north London compared to the east and west of the capital.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal are on top and Gabriel gets his head to a corner, but this time he seas his effort blocked.

I can't catch a break.

Liam Delap is at it again and this is another brilliant goal from the Ipswich forward.

He picks the ball up on the edge of the box following a corner, decides to turn, and then fires it low into the near corner via the hand of Alphonse Areola.

Parity restored.

Goals galore here. We know Brentford struggle to hold on to a lead and it takes just two minutes for Wolves to level. More of this please.

Well, that didn't take long. Wolves work the ball brilliantly into the area from the right and Matheus Cunha is in acres of space.

He skews the shot but it still floats into the top right-hand corner, and the visitors are level.

What an opening few minutes.

Kai Havertz has looked like a player reborn after his difficult start to life at the Emirates.

More than a few eyebrows were raised when the Germany international made his way across London to join the Gunners from Chelsea last summer.

The doubters appeared to have been vinidicated as he endured a slow start to life in Mikel Arteta's side, scoring just once in his first twelve league appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.

However, after completing the season with 14 goals in all competitions Havertz's confidence appears to be at an all-time high and he demonsrated just how valuable his is for Arsenal by opening to scoring against PSG on Tuesday.

All five of Havertz's goals this season have come at the Emirates per Squawka's stat pack, and he will be looking to add to that tally this afternoon.
