Arsenal fans left fuming

Arsenal fans were furious during Saturday's game against Leicester when Wilfred Ndidi avoided a second yellow card despite clearly kicking the ball away.

The incident occurred in the 35th minute after Bukayo Saka had been fouled by Stephy Mavididi.

Ndidi - who had been booked four minutes earlier for fouling Riccardo Calafiori - then jogged over to the ball and kicked it past Saka and off the pitch.

Theo Walcott left speechless

Theo Walcott has been raving about the performance of Cole Palmer after his four goal haul.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live;

There's nothing more I can really say about Cole Palmer. I am speechless. All four goals are brilliant too.
His elegance. His beauty with the ball. His composure at such a young age. He has grown into his own at Chelsea and he is the main man. He has got a bit of finesse, Bergkamp, Van Persie about him and they weren't bad at all.
You can't leave him out of any team, and I am talking about England too.'

McNeil: 'Everton have to step on'

Everton FINALLY have three points from a Premier League match at the expense of Crystal Palace whose poor start continues.

Goalscoring hero Dwight McNeil has told reporters;

Massive, especially at home, to get three points on the board. It’s been a tough start for us.
We played well in some games but never took our chances but I think today, especially in that second half we defended really well. Now we’ve just got to step on and take it forward into the game next week.'

Star of the day

Not much to say about the second-half between Chelsea vs Brighton - after there were six goals in the first 45 - four of which netted by Cole Palmer.

He has made Premier League history with his four goals inside the first-half and Chelsea have ended Brighton's unbeaten start to the season.

Chelsea starting to look like a real force under Enzo Maresca and a top-four challenge looks on the cards even if we are just six games in.

16:12

Jubilation for Arsenal

That's what champions do. Still a long way to go this season of course, but that's a huge victory for Arsenal who looked to be on their way to a draw - failing to take advantage of Man City's draw earlier today.

But two late goals have sealed what will look on paper a comfortable 4-2 victory - but it was far from that.

Now it's over to Liverpool who could go top of the table tonight with a victory against Wolves.

Everton, however, look to be closing in on a first win of the campaign.

Marc Cucurella acrobatically scored against his former club, but it is ruled out for offside.

Brentford's fast starts

Brentford and Cole Palmer with remarkable Premier League achievements this afternoon.

The Bees start today was arguably slow by their own standards, scoring after 38 seconds.

Previous weeks had seen them ahead after 22 and 23 seconds.

14:56

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 4-2 Brighton

The whistle goes at Stamford Bridge way after the other 3pm kick offs after eight minutes of added time.

Largely because there have been six goals in that crazy first half.

Cole Palmer, incidentially, is the first player to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League game.

14:55

HALF-TIME: Brentford 1-0 West Ham

Brentford roared out of the blocks again and lead at the break.

The Bees have lost their last two despite leading inside the first minute.

Can West Ham do what Man City and Tottenham did?

GOAL: Chelsea 4-2 Brighton (Palmer)

You'll never guess which game has a goal...

Bart Verbruggen has gone all Robert Sanchez as the Brighton goalkeeper gives the ball away passing out from the back.

Jadon Sancho passes the ball to you know who... Cole Palmer.

Palmer does the rest and has scored four goals in 19 first half minutes.

Chelsea's two goal cushion is restored with half-time fast approaching. Probably time for another goal though.

14:42

Brentford 1-0 West Ham

Mail Sport's Henry Clark at the Gtech Community Stadium:

I thought I was at the best game in west London today after that early Mbeumo goal... after checking the Chelsea score, clearly I'm not!

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Fulham

I haven't been ignoring events at the City Ground!

Nottingham Forest and Fulham remains goalless, but the hosts did have a Chris Wood effort ruled out earlier.

14:39

Arsenal 1-0 Leicester

This was meant to be our feature game! But events at Stamford Bridge have rather taken over!

Arsenal have gone close to doubling their lead, but Kai Havertz has headed wide of the target.

Just the 75 per cent possession for Arsenal today with 11 shots on the Leicester goal.

The Foxes have managed just one in reply.

14:35

GOAL: Chelsea 3-2 Brighton (Baleba)

Comedy at Stamford Bridge.

Just when you think Chelsea are going to run away with this, Robert Sanchez hands Brighton a gift.

The Chelsea goalkeeper's pass is cut out and Baleba nicks the ball before slotting into the net.

Brighton nearly level the match immediately with Sanchez making some form of amends with a fine save.

Madness.

14:32

GOAL: Chelsea 3-1 Brighton (Palmer hat-trick)

An absolute stunner from goal Cole Palmer to complete a first half hat-trick.

Chelsea had been demanding a red card for Brighton's Pervis Estupinan following a foul on Noni Madueke.

The Brighton man avoids the red card, but is punished from the resulting free kick.

Palmer bends a stunning, stunning free kick into the stop goal from about 30 yards out.

Brighton pay tribute to former manager

Brighton have announced they will be wearing black armbands this afternoon at Stamford Bridge in honour of their former manager Barry Lloyd, who has died aged 75.

Lloyd managed the club from January 1987 until December 1993, leading the Seagulls to promotion from the Third Division.

Lloyd started his playing career at Chelsea, so quite a fitting fixture.

The real reasons Chelsea have spent £380m on 12 wingers in just two years

Chelsea have started the season brightly under new boss Enzo Maresca and will be looking to continue their progress against Brighton today.

Maresca has gone with Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho on the wings today, with Cole Palmer also supporting Nicolas Jackson in attack.

Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk have to make do with a place on the bench.

Mail Sport's Kieran Gill has written this week about the method behind Chelsea's decision to splash out £380m on 12 wingers over the past two years.

You can read that piece here

13:42

Man City held by Newcastle in early kick-off

It is back-to-back draws for Manchester City in the Premier League as Pep Guardiola's men as it finishes 1-1 against Newcastle.

Over to you Arsenal...

13:36

Are things looking up at Everton?

Dare I say it... but are things beginning to get better for Everton.

It has been a fairly miserable couple of years for Toffees fans but a major boost came in midweek with the news the Friedkin Group have agreed to buy out Farhad Moshiri.

The deal should - you would hope - end the turmoil that has surrounded the club.

With key man Jarrad Branthwaite making his first start of the season as well, you wonder whether the positive news could help the Toffees claim their first Premier League win of the season.

It is a crunch game at Goodison Park with Crystal Palace one of the other six winless teams in the top flight.

Fullkrug remains absent for West Ham

Mail Sport's Henry Clark at the Gtech Community Stadium:

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui said Niclas Fullkrug had returned to training earlier this week, but once again he's left out of their match day squad.

As expected, Jean-Clair Todibo comes in at the back to make his full Premier League debut but Crysencio Summerville has to settle for a spot on the bench.

Can Vardy haunt Arsenal again?

One man who will be hoping to dent Arsenal's ambitions today is Jamie Vardy.

The Leicester captain - once subject of a bid from the Gunners - has a fine record against today's opponents.

Vardy has scored 11 goals in 16 matches against Arsenal, while Squawka's stat pack reveals he has found the net with two of his three shots in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal are in the building

Wonder if Arsenal have been keeping an eye on proceedings at Newcastle.

If that scoreline stays the same Arsenal could join Man City at the top of the table if they beat Leicester.

Closing stages at St James' Park

The early Premier League kick-off is into the final five minutes, with Newcastle having pegged back Rodri-less Man City.

Anthony Gordon has scored from the penalty spot to cancel out Josko Gvardiol's opener.

Exclusive:CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI: I didn't know Nottingham Forest had won two European Cups until I got here and saw the trophies... now we believe we can get back into Europe

Did have a chuckle at that Nottingham Forest team news with Callum Hudson-Odoi missing out on a place in the starting line-up.

Of course that would happen as I prepared to tee up Ian Ladyman's exclusive interview with the Forest star. Always the way isn't it?

It is a fascinating read, so well worth your time before the 3pm kick-offs.

Hudson-Odoi spoke on a range of topics, including how he knew it was time to leave Chelsea, the impact of his Achilles injury and Forest's growing belief they can push for a European berth.

You can read the interview here

Team news: Taiwo Awoniyi leads the line for Nottingham Forest against unchanged Fulham

Taiwo Awoniyi makes his first Premier League start of the season for Nottingham Forest as one of three changes.

Ryan Yates comes in for the suspended Morgan Gibbs-White, while Nicolas Dominguez replaces Callum Hudson-Odoi from the start.

Fulham, unsurprisingly, stick with the same team that beat Newcastle last weekend.

Team news: Schade starts for Brentford with Todibo one of three West Ham changes

Brentford are still without Christian Norgaard, with Thomas Frank only making one change from their loss at Tottenham.

Kevin Schade starts in place of Yegor Yarolyuk.

Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek are among three changes to the West Ham team as Julen Lopetegui looks to find a winning formula.

Jean-Clair Todibo, an eye-catching summer signing, also comes into the starting line-up in the Premier League after being handed a chance against Liverpool in midweek.

Edson Alvarez is missing for West Ham following his red card at Anfield.

12:59

Team news: Jarrad Branthwaite starts for Everton against Crystal Palace

It has been a good week for Everton off the pitch and the positives keep coming now.

Jarrad Branthwaite makes his first start of the season after returning from injury. He is one of two changes for Everton with Vitali Mykolenko also named in the starting eleven.

Jefferson Lerma is the one change for Crystal Palace with Chris Richards absent.

12:51

Team news: Chelsea v Brighton

Enzo Marseca has made 10 changes from Chelsea's midweek thrashing of Barrow, reverting to much of the side that beat West Ham last weekend.

Malo Gusto retains his place after returning from injury in midweek. Romeo Lavia is fit enough to be named on the bench.

Adam Webster, Ferdi Kadioglu and Mats Wieffer come into the Brighton side.

12:47

Team news: David Raya starts for Arsenal and Trossard returns against Leicester

Mikel Arteta was typically coy in his press conference over whether David Raya would be fit to play against Leicester.

The goalkeeper had missed their Carabao Cup win over Bolton through injury.

Raya has made it and starts between the sticks for the Gunners.

Leandro Trossard returns to the starting line-up after being suspended in midweek.

Jamie Vardy leads the line for the visitors.

GRAEME SOUNESS: Arsenal's players have given Man City a psychological edge

Mail Sport columnist Graeme Souness has said he respects the way Arsenal's players put in a major shift against Man City when reduced to 10-men last weekend.

However, Souness in his latest column believes that while Gunners approach did not surprise him, they may have given a psychological edge to the defending Premier League champions.

'The big-player mentality is that you think you are the best player on the pitch. The best in your position in the country,' Souness writes.

'No one in that Arsenal team will have enjoyed being dominated like that.'

Defence against the ‘dark arts’

Mikel Arteta has been on the offensive in the past week, hitting out at critics who had criticised the Gunners conservative style of play after being reduced to 10-men at the Etihad last weekend.

The Arsenal boss claimed in the aftermath of the match that he would have been ‘very thick’ to have attacked Man City when leading 2-1 with 10-men.

Roy Keane has since claimed Arsenal showed a ‘small mentality’ with their approach, while another ex-Man United player Paul Scholes used the word ‘cheating’.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown and ex-Bolton manager Sam Allardyce have been among those to defend the Gunners.

‘I want to win. The way we prepare the games and the way we want to play — in our way,’ Arteta said at his press conference on Friday.

‘But understanding the context. I want to wear flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt, but with this weather? I think I would be very silly to do that. “I am very brave” — yeah, but tomorrow you are sick.’

Arteta’s side, you suspect, will be on the attack today however against at Leicester side with Jamie Vardy in their ranks. You sense he would contender himself a specialist in the dark arts.

Good afternoon!

It has been quite the week in English football with European action, Carabao Cup matches and the small matter of Pep Guardiola declaring ‘war’ on Arsenal amid the fallout from their 2-2 draw last Sunday.

The Gunners have spent the week brushing off claims of using ‘dark arts’ – as well as dispatching Bolton in the cup.

Mikel Arteta’s side will be the focus for us in the 3pm kick offs today as the title challengers host winless Leicester.

We will have live updates from around the grounds with another four matches kicking off at 3pm, before Wolves host Liverpool in the 5.30pm kick off.

Let’s get going.
