------------------------------- Get ready for COP29! We are excited to introduce Thu Thuy (Kat), a dedicated 23-year-old advocate for children’s rights and environmental protection from Vietnam As a Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) Ambassador, Kat will represent young people at COP29 and will be attending the conference virtually. For the young generation like Thuy, the Paris Agreement offers hope for global unity in addressing climate change. However, eight years since the agreement's implementation, Thuy still sees several gaps highlighting an urgent need for countries to adapt and adjust. Therefore, she has three key messages that she wants to bring to COP29: involve more underrepresented groups in climate discussions, prioritize financial support for underdeveloped and developing countries, and create campaigns that make climate action relatable to daily lives. Let's continue to elevate the voices of young people and their crucial role in shaping a brighter future!

“REACHING THE FURTHEST BEHIND” PROGRAM HOLDS 2023-2024 REVIEW MEETING AND SETS DIRECTION FOR 2024-2028 On November 12, 2024, the Ha Giang People's Committee, in collaboration with Plan International Vietnam, CARE International in Vietnam, and the Center for Research on Initiatives of Community Development (RIC), convened a review meeting to assess the 2023-2024 phase of the "Reaching The Furthest Behind" program and gathered feedback for the upcoming 2024-2028 phase. The "Reaching The Furthest Behind" program, funded by the Irish Embassy in Vietnam, is a five-year initiative implemented in 15 communes across the districts of Dakrong and Huong Hoa (Quang Tri Province), Da Bac and Lac Son (Hoa Binh Province), and Xin Man and Vi Xuyen (Ha Giang Province). By adopting a community-centered approach, the program aims to improve the quality of life for marginalized communities, particularly ethnic minorities and those living in mountainous regions. Recognizing the increasing impact of climate change on Vietnam, particularly in the program's target regions, the program will adapt its strategy for the 2024-2028 phase. By conducting climate risk assessments in target areas, the program will ensure its interventions are resilient and effective in mitigating the impacts of climate change. Mrs. Le Quynh Lan, Acting Country Director of Plan International Vietnam, emphasized: “Vulnerable communities, such as poor women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities in mountainous areas, have become increasingly susceptible to climate change impacts. The program's interventions will equip these communities with knowledge and skills to better adapt and minimize the impacts of natural disasters and climate change on their lives. This program significantly aligns with Plan International's 2025-2027 vision, where Vietnamese girls, young women, and youth are active drivers of change in realizing their rights for a green and sustainable future.” #FbF #ReachingTheFurthestBehind

🌍 As member of the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance, Plan International Switzerland and Plan International Vietnam believe that the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) should be accessible and supportive of #genderequality and #humanrights. Together with Phu Nguyen Xuan we suggest key priorities to COP29 Azerbaijan: ➡ Climate projects should actively support gender equality and social #inclusion goals to reduce inequality. ➡ Climate Finance Goal must meet the needs and priorities of women and girls, while addressing the root causes of gender inequality. ➡ This is a vital opportunity to make progress on this issue and prioritize gender accountability in climate action. 📊 Check out the latest report from the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance, which sets out the five essential tests the NCQG must meet to be considered a success: https://lnkd.in/eY6DMhZ3 Let’s seize this chance to create a climate-resilient, equitable future! #COP29
The New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) should be accessible and supportive of gender equality and human rights. It should incentivize climate finance providers to prioritize gender equality objectives and further encourage countries to report gender equality markers transparently and consistently. Plan International’s Nguyen Xuan Phu explains just how important this is ahead of COP29 Azerbaijan.
