Icons meet icons… Our 2024 Wimbledon campaign has launched with an astonishing response across platforms. The second location to be released with an incredible! 1.5m views so far is the iconic white cliffs,the Seven Sisters. The success so far has raised some questions for thought. For me it’s how do we replicate this success again ? reflecting on the Wimbledon campaign, we could start by identifying what went well and celebrating those successes. This could include the stunning visuals, engaging content, and effective promotion across platforms aswell as cross functional working within the business . However, we should also look at what could be improved upon. In the case of this campaign, it may be beneficial to analyze why certain locations or aspects resonated more with audiences than others. Was it the nostalgia factor, the use of new media, or something else entirely? By understanding the reasons behind the success, as well as the shortfalls ,we can learn valuable insights for future projects. But how do we guide our teams through this reflection process, its always hard looking at ourselves and other team members without it becoming personal or feelings being hurt. The books all say , open communication and constructive feedback, creating a safe space for team members to share their thoughts and ideas, but how do we foster that enviroment , is it team level Or a business culture ? As leaders, it is also important to evaluate our own shortfalls and areas for improvement. This could mean seeking feedback from our team members, conducting our own self assessment . However who wants to hear you’ve not supported or been a poor leader! I’d say no one ! But is that not part of our own growth ? Overall, I feel by creating a culture of reflection within a business we can ensure that our teams and us as leader’s are constantly learning, growing, creating even more impactful campaigns in the future. As a 100% BME-staffed agency, we encourage every Black PR professional to join the survey. Let's see what progress (hopefully) has been made, and most importantly, affect change!

Cannes-did conversations. It's probably the thing I most enjoy about attending the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Sure. I enjoy the educational presentations, the parties, the opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. But it's the candid conversations I hear around me that often deliver the most joy - and the greatest impact. Milling about after a System1 happy hour that had earlier featured a "fireside chat" with Jon Evans, Rory Sutherland, and Mark Ritson, I listened in on a conversation that Mark was having with Tamara Littleton and Andrew Tindall about some comments Mark had made earlier about brands that "rainbowed" their logos during Pride month (prompted by a column Mark had written previously on the topic). I won't recount the conversation here, because Mark has already done that (see the link to his telling of the story in the comments). What stuck with me, as I witnessed the conversation unfolding, was the power of honest dialogue to foster the opportunity for a transformation in thought and action (with an obvious tip of the hat to the participants who committed to really hearing each other). We know that when it comes to social concerns like advocating for diversity, it’s difficult to move brands from talk to action, and moral arguments, sadly, aren’t enough. In those instances, turning to research can help make a business case for action – which is exactly what System1’s new research does. Beyond moral arguments for inclusion and visibility, the research demonstrates that “gay ads are as effective as any other ad with broad audiences and are much more effective with LGBTQ+audiences.” These findings are similar to SiriusXM Media's Studio Resonate Sonic Diversity research, namely that casting more Black voices in general market spots improves ad favorability with Black listeners, with no negative impact on ad favorability or effectiveness with broader audiences. While discussions about diversity, equity, and inclusion with advertisers and brands (and sometimes with each other) can be difficult, they’re not impossible. We need more research to support the moral arguments, but we also need to work at fostering dialogues rather than a debates. We need to listen to be heard. Hats off to Mark, Tamara, and Andrew for doing just that. Here's to more Cannes-did conversations. One step forward two steps Black? We want to hear your experiences of what it’s like to be Black in PR and comms today. It's not uncommon for retailers to pump north of 60% of their digital advertising investment into search, and the landscape* has been dominated by 1 key player for over 25 years...until now TikTok Search Ads have gone into general availability in the US 🇺🇸 and here's why I'm more than excited: 1️⃣ 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: TikTok’s entry into search ads is finally bringing some serious competition to the space, driving innovation across the board. With TikTok Shop integrated into the platform, users can go from discovery to purchase seamlessly. Search ads only strengthen this loop, making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for while staying engaged. 4️⃣ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘀: Unlike traditional text-based search ads, TikTok’s search ads will allow brands to create engaging, visual, and immersive content that aligns with the user experience, driving higher interaction and engagement. The 2024 PRWeek UK Pay Gap Report has a lot to unpack. Beyond the lack of progress on gender and ethnicity pay equity, the biggest surprise is that the largest PR agencies have never shared their data. At Woodrow, we believe transparency is how we raise the bar—for ourselves and the industry. While looking closely at our own operations can be daunting, it’s necessary. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made—transparent salaries, clear career paths, and a commitment to inclusivity. But we know we’re not perfect. Participating in PRWeek UK's Pay Gap Report, alongside People Like Us, is how we stay accountable and push the industry forward. This could be one of the last Pay Gap Reports before ethnicity pay gap reporting becomes law. With the new Labour Government’s pledge, larger firms will soon be required to report. The reason the Pay Gap Project by People Like Us and PRWeek is so inspiring, is that it doesn't just help agencies and the industry as a whole to be aware of their gender and ethnicity pay gaps - it makes them accountable for improving them. It's lamentable, then, that it's a project ignored by all of the biggest agencies in the country — certainly last year none of the biggest 20 agencies by revenue contributed (cc BRUNSWICK PUBLIC RELATIONS LLP Edelman, Hill & Knowlton, FTI Consulting, Havas, Weber Shandwick, Teneo, Freuds Group Ketchum Ogilvy BCW Global etc etc etc). So, if you work at one of those giant agencies, or any agency that doesn't contribute their pay gap reports — talk to your boss today. Send them a link. The deadline has been extended until August 27th. If they feel there's a risk to sharing their pay gaps, maybe we need to make them aware of the risks of not sharing them. The more agencies that get involved, the more we can accelerate much-needed changes in our industry. Manifest Group will, as it always has, contribute. Doing so has helped us to be publicly accountable, and focused on prioritising the right actions. It's also helped us feel our DE&I efforts are part of a bigger movement across the industry — learning from and being inspired by our peers' progress. It's not a competition.
