Additional Learning Needs in Further Education Colleges We recently published our ‘Additional Learning Needs in Further Education Colleges’ Insights report. The report highlights some key challenges to the progress of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) reforms as well as spotlighting examples of interesting effective practice of colleges developing aspects of ALN provision. Key challenges to progress of ALN reforms include: - Variability in the implementation stages of the ALN Act. - Rising numbers of learners with complex needs and mental health issues post-pandemic. - Limited information on additional learning needs for learners who were previously home educated. - Complicated relationships and information sharing with multiple local authorities. The least bad part of the Accord implementation plan is its approach to distributing places between qualification levels and courses. It seems like the default position will be to give universities flexibility to meet student demand, within their EFTSL cap. However ATEC and the minister will have power to intervene if enrolments diverge too far from the government-approved patterns. Digital tools promise cost-effective, timely data for informed decision-making, offering time-saving benefits over paper-based methods. We assessed 50 tools, diving deep into four, to provide insights into their uses and challenges. Our report examines data collection and visualisation tools in education across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and highlights the key insights and gaps in the market and what support should be provided to fill these gaps. Very proud to have been involved in this project. This has involved deep collaboration, planning, evaluation and TIME. On a personal level, what have I learnt from the experience? Quite a lot and obviously more to come! 1. Digital assessment can be made accessible and contemporary, but requires due consideration on its audience, familiarisation, testing and evolution. 2. Working with leading-edge platforms requires enhanced collaboration, especially within an evolving digital assessment environment. I have no doubt that assessments can only strengthen in their validity and will attract a greater audience, perhaps a proportion of which may have experienced a historic lack of accessibility. 3. Learning from 'sticking points' and identifying alternative ways of working and implementation. Digital assessment may not hold all the answers, but there are definitely not insurmountable issues and platform will evolve to meet future challenges. Here is the first: One of our Teaching The Fundamental Guides, this is looking at the common issues learners have with Area, Perimeter and Volume and incorporates some useful advice from the Chair of Examiners and some teaching tips from me 😀. This is an "area" learners have struggled with since Functional Skills began 🤣 #FEmaths #Apprenticeships

How wobbly is your PD? The EEF’s Effective Professional Development guidance report features 14 mechanisms, split into four groups: Building knowledge; motivating teachers; developing teaching techniques; embedding practice. It is recommended to aim for a ​‘balanced design’: ​“Where professional development features a mechanism from each group, it may be more likely to be effective.” But even when we feel we have achieved this balanced design, we need to be aware of where things could wobble. https://lnkd.in/eqwZJhD6
