    We surveyed over 20,000 young people in 20 countries around the world. The same questions were asked of members of Generation Z (those born between 1995 and 2001) in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US. This is the first time that there has been an international comparative study of the attitudes of young people on this scale.

    The world’s first comprehensive study into global corporate education CSR spend, has been published today by the Varkey Foundation. It shows that the 2013 Global Fortune 500 companies only spend $2.6bn (13%) of their total Fortune 500 CSR budget of $19.9bn on education related activities (based on an average for the years 2011-13 inclusive). The report also finds that less than half (218 companies) of the Fortune 500 provide any spending on education-related CSR.

    With 200 million people currently unemployed globally, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO), and a need to create more than 300 million additional new jobs by 2020 to provide livelihood and career opportunities for the generation joining the labour market over the coming years, new approaches to job creation and skills development are urgently needed. Collaboration between the public and private sector towards the creation of quality and productive jobs contributing to sustainable and inclusive growth is a top priority for both advanced and emerging economies. At the same time, major technological, economic, social and demographic disruptions demand the attention of business leaders and policy-makers. Over the next decade, no less than 47% of all occupations could be affected by deepening automation, while by 2021 nearly two-thirds of all college graduates will hail from emerging economies. These and other trends will have significant impacts on the structure of industries, employment, occupational change and the skills required from the future workforce. Finding answers to these questions will have far-reaching implications for the dynamism and prosperity of economies and societies. The Global Agenda Council on the Future of Jobs will consolidate the latest knowledge on trends and disruptions to develop scenarios for skills and employment demand in the next 5-10 years, and identify implications of these projections for human capital planning and labour policy by governments, as well as for business and education providers.

Digital revolution has leveled the ground for all businesses – media, products, tools and platforms – in the new competition to capture right moments for learning to happen in daily life…

    In today’s hyperconnected world, technological innovations and convergence of media have blurred the boundaries of entertainment and learning. Technology has enabled unprecedented options to present, access and make use of knowledge, creating new opportunities to inspire young minds not possible before. Digital revolution has leveled the ground for all businesses – media, products, tools and platforms – in the new competition to capture right moments for learning to happen in daily life, creating new possibilities to innovate and monetize content and audience. How can businesses best understand these opportunities and materialize their potential? The project is aimed to examine the expanded options of learning moments in children’s life, the impact technology can make in those moments, best business practices across industries in implementing innovations to make those moments a learning reality, and the public and private partnership model to remove barriers for media technology to help nurture current and future generations for a creative-driven economy. Objectives The new phase builds upon findings from New Vision for Education project phase I and II on 21st centuries skills and analysis of technology’s role and adoption trends. It is aligned to Human Capital’s work on skill shift and the Future of Internet’s work on digital transformation. The goal of the project phase III is to develop an approach to help our partners understand, evaluate, and capture new business opportunities related to knowledge consumption in the ever-changing media technology space.
