Ahead of the UEFA Champions League Final of the Men on Saturday night, I had the opportunity to attend the UEFA Women's Champions League Final last weekend in Bilbao ⚽🏆 In below article I share my observations of the event as well as the opportunities for further growth 🚀. In a nutshell, it was a terrific experience and one could really feel the positive development and excitement that Women's Football has experienced over the last years. The areas that from my point of view need further improvement in order to reach more people, appeal to new target groups and in turn grow revenue of the competition to be re-invested into the game revolve around the following: 1. The further development of the event product to reach new target groups ⚽🎙 2. The further involvement and positioning of sponsors as "change makers" and the enhanced activation of that message ⚡ 3. The diversification of the broadcast distribution and overall content maximization 📺 📱 4. The match scheduling to avoid conflicts with major men's competitions ⏲ While some of these topics certainly require relevant "heavy lifting" across the entire European football ecosystem, others can be implemented more easily. In the sports industry, women-led startups are driving significant innovation and change. However, gender inequities persist, limiting the potential of women entrepreneurs. As the founder of Boob Armour, a company dedicated to protecting female athletes, I have experienced these challenges firsthand. The Reality of Gender Inequities in Sports Startups Women in sports startups face significant barriers, particularly in securing funding. Women-led startups receive a disproportionately small share of venture capital, exacerbated by biases questioning their expertise and leadership. Gender inequities in sports not only affect individual entrepreneurs but also have broader implications for the sports ecosystem. Diverse leadership teams bring fresh perspectives and drive innovation. Research shows that organizations with gender-diverse teams perform better financially. Supporting women-led sports startups fosters inclusive growth, benefiting both the industry and society. The upcoming Olympic Games will feature an equal number of male and female athletes for the first time. Deloitte forecasts that in 2024, women’s elite sports will generate over $1 billion in revenue, a 300% increase from 2021. Clearly, investing in women-led startups is a smart move, aligning with these milestones and market potential. Steps Towards Change: Enhance Access to Funding: Investors and venture capital firms must prioritise funding for women-led sports startups through dedicated funds and unbiased evaluation processes. Football, Sustainability and Donald Trump The Social Football Summit is underway at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, an important event that serves to reflect on football from an industrial point of view. Today Michele Uva, UEFA's chief sustainability officer, took the stage. In practice, Uva is the architect of the impressive acceleration of UEFA on environmental issues that had its crowning moment in the European Championship that took place in the summer in Germany. For the first time a major sporting event, the third most important in the world, has created a strategy of a hundred actions to make everything more sustainable. Sustainability is not an abstract word, or a radical chic one: it includes inclusion, the rights of those with disabilities, a no to racism and also transparency on how money is spent. And then there is environmental sensitivity, which means reducing waste, using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels, promoting public transport instead of cars and trains instead of planes. In Germany, they did it with encouraging results. Sustainability is now on everyone's lips, but usually it's just a lot of talk. And above all, the numbers are missing: how much was the carbon footprint of an event, how many tons of carbon dioxide were emitted? Without that data, any initiative oscillates between greenwashing and goodwill. For example, we still don't know anything about the Paris Olympics, which also made sustainability a priority: there is no number to indicate how things really went. For Euro 24 we know: the event's carbon footprint was reduced by 90 percent compared to previous and comparable events. 90 percent is a lot. This is just the beginning of a journey, said Michele Uva, in a burst of optimism. However, the world has undergone a significant shift in recent weeks: the United States is now led by an oil advocate who dismisses climate change as a hoax. For many companies, it may be more convenient to take a step back on these issues. After all, who wants to risk going up against the President of the United States? In the short term, it's also possible that this approach may lead to increased profits. However, this is the moment to stand firm, to identify those who genuinely believe in the ecological transition and those who were merely seeking a green facade.

Padel is booming. There is an energy around the sport and among those helping to grow it that I have never experienced elsewhere, either as a fan or reporter. The amount of investment pouring into padel, especially in the US and Middle East, is staggering. Luxury brands like Valentino and Versace are among the early movers to identify padel as a perfect arena to market to the sport's typically wealthy audience. Luxury watchmaker Richard Mille works with Reserve, a high-end padel club in Miami, while dunhill will sponsor The Hurlingham Club's inaugural padel tournament this year. Calling All Potential RaceRanger Investors! Love Triathlon? Hate Drafting? 2024 has been a year of huge growth for RaceRanger - the triathlon anti-drafting system. 37 of the highest-level triathlons in the world including the IRONMAN World Championships, the T100 World Series, the Paris Paralympics and Challenge Roth to name a few, have successfully used the system this year. We are now welcoming further investment to take RaceRanger to the next level! In the next 18 months we will be taking the race proven system used by the pros, and further developing it for use in the thousands for amateur / age-group fields. When it comes to applying RaceRanger to age-group racing, there are 3 aspects; FAIRNESS – Competitive athletes and those vying for age group awards or qualification to major events will appreciate the fairness benefits RaceRanger brings in the same way the pros do. But for the majority of competitors who are just trying to get around the course, this is not always the most important consideration. SAFETY – Bunches of tightly grouped age groupers on TT bikes is a recipe for disaster, but a nightmare reality faced by most amateur athletes when they get out on bike courses around the world. RaceRanger will discourage the formation of these bunches. Secondly, race control will be alerted to the location of athletes that have stopped on course, so they can be given assistance and helped beck to race HQ. DATA & TRACKING – Probably the biggest reason we believe RaceRanger will become an essential part of the age group race experience at both ends of the . Our current units have a 4G/LTE connection, which will soon be capable of relaying athlete positions to the internet in real time. This can then be presented to an athlete’s supporters through an improved tracker app experience. The data gathered by the devices as an athlete progresses through their race, such as who they overtook, who overtook them, where and when those events took place, where any illegal drafting time was accumulated, and how that compares with the rest of the field / their age group etc…this can all be supplied after the race as a supplementary file alongside the results. All the above will elevate the race day experience, and help to grow this sport we all love.
