When i was reading the “PM Burnout Report” i indeed payed the most attention to the part Petra is talking about So today, If you’re a Head of Product or a Product Lead, take a moment to reflect: • Are your Product Managers clear on their roles? • Do they have a well-defined scope of work? • Are their efforts recognized and appreciated? • Do they have a clear growth plan with set goals? If you have got at least one “no”, you might need to do a better job Burnout can stem from various factors, but as a leader, it’s your responsibility to prioritize your team’s well-being. When you take care of your team, they can take care of the product.

Great post by Ant Murphy; are you a lone wolf or a lion who supports its pride?? I completely agree, that PMs can often work alone rather than with other PMs however the best PMs cultivate a strong sense of Product craft and work together to better each other, their deliveries, business and the product craft as a whole. As senior Product Managers, it’s our job to work with other PMs to help improve our Product Craft and how we “run the business’ as well execute our core responsibilities.. I often worked with other PMs during: • Delivery of progs where PMs lead diff tracks • Craft initiatives to improve our Product skills • Informal coaching, supporting others to be better • Communtiy activities such as Allyship and DEI work There’s a lot to be said for PMs who can work with other PMs to multiply the impact of the whole versus the sum of the individuals. Are you even a Product Leader if you don’t cultivate your business’ product craft and improve your product community as a whole?

MVP, MLP, MMP, MAP, MTP... it's all the same MVP 🎯 People keep dropping in new middle letters to try to explain how MVP doesn't cut it anymore. They're jumping over the point. V stands for Viable (I know you know that already). If your product isn't also Lovable, Marketable, Awesome, Testable, Sellable, Differentiated, Valuable, etc., then guess what - people won't find it, people won't buy it, and people won't use it. In other words - it's not Viable. So it's not that MVP isn't good enough anymore. It's that the definition of Viable has changed to encompass more that you need to consider. I really enjoyed Mind the Product and Mews Meet Up at Rich Mix, Shoreditch this evening where the topic was collaboration in product trios (Product manager + Engineering Manager + designer).. check out a recording at: https://lnkd.in/ejTAfGt8 It was the first Meet Up I've been to for a while and I'm keen to go to more and meet more PMs (and non-PMs) and hear how they work and learn from their experiences, which takes me back to tonight's topic: working in product trios. It's not the first time I've heard about this and I've worked this way before but I haven't implemented it where it wasn't already happening, so it was interesting to hear about how Mews (Aldair Borges, Jakub Tkadleček, Zuzana Hrušovská) and Tesco (Amanda Ho, Dr. John McCarthy) work in trios and how they got started. I love working in smaller, focussed groups with an equal balance of perspectives from different disciplines... but how do you ensure others on the squad don't feel excluded? I'm not a fan of huge meetings as they often result in a lot of conversation but little strategic discussion that leads to action, and they tend to be dominated by the loudest in the room. With one designer in a squad and often multiple engineers, the balance is also off... is product trios the answer? How do you ensure it doesn't shut down wider collaboration across the whole squad? All Product Mgt coaching (PMC) is valuable if there is a tangible RoI. The problem is ensuring the cost meets the value. Coaches ask for a fee based on their own experience, not the level of student and career level (mostly), for obv reasons. This makes it difficult for those in the earlier stages of Product Management to be able to afford good PMC, which are the ones who need it the most but are unlikely to get the most RoI due to the high cost. I’ve found this is similar for all coaching. This is where Evie’s group coaching offers significant value as it allows entry level and ‘younger PMs’ access to advanced experience and advice without the hefty price tag that comes with one on one coaching. #Coaching #PM #learning #product

When launching a new product I see alot of product managers wait until they're asked "how it's going", before thinking about what their metrics of success are. This is something that I learned as a new product manager when trying to get funding for my first product. I really like this post from Shreyas Doshi. If talking to customers was all it took to build successful products, why doesn’t everyone who does it succeed? In my experience, talking to customers gives people the opportunity to build something successful, but it’s not sufficient on its own. Internal support, great execution, effective marketing, and a million other things have to align to create a winning product. Also, one thing I think people miss is that PMs and founders aren’t the only people talking to customers regularly. Customer support, account managers, and account executives all have their relationships with customers and can amplify a small product team’s ability to learn and act quickly.

**Advice for Candidates Seeking Product Roles** I've recently noticed several candidates making the same interview mistake, so I'd like to share some insights on overcoming it. The common error I'm referring to is presenting experience in design, development, or other roles as if they were product management roles. How does this happen?  Each product manager has a unique journey. Some developers identify market opportunities they helped address before becoming product managers, while some designers transition into managing various stakeholders and eventually become product managers. Showcasing a positive product-related outcome in a non-product role can strengthen the evaluation of your product sense. However, presenting a specific product-related task as a product role may be a misunderstanding of the product role and appear inauthentic. So what should you do? ✨ **Be Clear and Honest**: Clearly state that some of your relevant experience was under a different title (e.g., developer or analyst). This adds authenticity and showcases your product sense. ✨**Specify Your Experience**: Clearly state the years in each role and industry. For instance, "I have 6 years in product management—3 years with SaaS products and 2 years in the gaming industry." Once the overall product experience is laid out clearly, it is easier to follow examples from non-product roles. ✨**Provide an Example**—Now, after you mention that you have, for example, 3 years of SaaS product management experience and that, as a web developer, you drove specific initiatives that resulted in increasing revenue, you can present a clearer picture of your fit to the role and the impact you drove under every position by a specific example. As a product manager, beware of the sunk cost fallacy. The more time, money or energy you’ve invested in something, the more you’ll be inclined to carry on. But what really matters isn't what you’ve put in already, it's the benefit you’ll reap (if any) from your future costs. Just because you've thrown a lot of effort at an idea, it doesn't automatically mean it's any good. Always be ready to kill an initiative if the data is telling you it isn't working, regardless of what you've spent on it already.

Question to product ops people (I'm looking at you May Wong Graham Reed ) Something I rarely see spoken about as a responsibility of product ops is hiring PMs. I feel like your product ops people understand what makes a good PM, especially in the specific context of your company, as well if not better than anyone. If the role of product ops is to make your product org a slick well oiled machine then adding the right people feels like it should fit squarely within that wheelhouse and is one of the highest leverage activities that can be done. I'm not suggesting that they should own the whole process end to end but it feels to me as though it's a place where they could add a lot of value.
