You're aiming for a successful career move. How can you articulate your aspirations in a job interview?
Every story worth sharing revolves around a key theme or message. When articulating your aspirations for a career move in an interview, focus on the unique value proposition you bring, how your learning and development align with the role and how your goals fit within the company’s vision. Your core message should be clear, concise and consistently reflected in your responses.

You're an executive in Strategic Communications. How can you master networking effectively?
One of the points I mentioned in my recent blog on networking is approaching it with a mindset of giving rather than taking. Offer your help, share resources and make introductions when you can. This generosity builds goodwill within your network and often comes back to you in unexpected ways, especially when consistently adding value to others.

My role involved:
- Raising Awareness: I shared my personal experiences as a Black man in the PR industry, helping my mentee gain a deeper understanding of the barriers to inclusion and career progression faced by ethnic diverse professionals.
- Showcasing Challenges: Through open dialogue, I highlighted the specific challenges that ethnic diverse professionals encounter in the workplace, from microaggressions to systemic inequalities, to help drive meaningful conversations about change.
- Encouraging Inclusive Cultures: I emphasised the importance of allyship and inclusive practices, sharing insights on how these can be embedded into an organisation's culture to create a more equitable work environment.
- Inspiring New Thinking: My role was to encourage fresh perspectives on how the PR industry approaches diversity, equity, and inclusion, motivating my mentee to rethink policies and practices within their organisation.
This was the the PR industry’s first Reverse Mentoring Scheme and was part of a broader initiative to drive lasting change in the PR industry by fostering a greater awareness of diversity challenges and encouraging senior leaders to take action in creating more inclusive environments. -

In this guide, I shared my perspective on the changing job climate and outlined what I would have done to build my skill set and create leverage to be prepared for opportunities once the pandemic subsided.
To enrich the content, I reached out to several professionals in my network who contributed words of encouragement, tips, and practical advice on how to get through this tough period and be ready for a return to normalcy.
Although I aimed the eBook at graduates looking to break into the PR and Communications industry, the advice and strategies I included were relevant across various sectors, enabling readers to pick out useful insights for their career journeys.
