For all the health people in my network, please fill in this survey. Explain to NHS England that this is a terrible idea that will create further barriers to innovation when we need it most. The UK can be a powerhouse in medtech innovation but not like this. Empower the frontline to seek innovations that solve the real world problems they face. Award contracts for real implementations not pilots and trials or schemes. So good to see this. #dataforgood. We have toiled hard for almost 5 years because we know data can solve many societal issues, especially when the right sources can be linked. We have engineered our platform to protect the consumer from being reidentified, while making data linkable and contained analytics possible so that we can solve financial inclusion, reduce fraud and even hopefully cure cancer. Over regulating is often as harmful as under regulating.

🔍 Just reviewed a fascinating report on uniting the UK's health data systems - a critical blueprint for the future of healthcare delivery and research. The UK has a goldmine of health data covering 67 million people through the NHS, with records dating back to the 1950s. However, we need to fully leverage this incredible resource due to fragmented systems and complex data governance. Why This Matters: Integrating health data systems isn't just about efficiency but saving lives. What is the biggest trendsetter for consumer health in the UK? It’s not the US. It’s not AI. It’s the NHS. By a long shot. Understanding NHS trends is imperative when implementing your GTM as they shape the creative, context, content and communication that marketing teams produce (and a lot more than you think). I have studied as many reports as I can find on the state and predictions of consumer health and NONE of them mention the impact, trends and consequences the NHS has on it. Some even discredit it saying that the UK does not work in a silo. I disagree. The UK is in a (relative) silo when it comes to healthcare purchases. As an ex-marketer in consumer health, I wish I understood this and had the resources to learn how this system affects consumer behaviour to be more effective. It’s naive to think that just because I am a UK native, I understand the system and the effects it has on selling D2C. Here are 4 examples of how the NHS affects your GTM: 1. The varied access and waiting times determine how urgent someone is willing to solve their issue. This will affect how you target, e.g., if you target symptomatic people who have a lower buying intent but higher numbers of people waiting to be treated and have higher buyer intent but lower numbers. 2. The level of influence a GP has over a patient’s choice to buy non-prescriptive items. If a patient has a strong relationship with their GP, this heavily affects if they try something new. 3. The different areas of the country struggle to combat different types of issues. For example, mental health is worse in Manchester than in Aberdeen. This affects your local activations and the context. 4. The different demographics experience different levels of service, thus sadly leading to some groups being marginalised, worse off or in danger of having complications. This affects which type of customer you target and how you address it. This is just to name a few. As we study our data and find new insights, there are a vast number of nuances that brands need to consider. I believe that if you study this 75-year-old trendsetter, brands will have better campaigns. This is why we have launched a platform combining NHS clinical data + consumer sentiment/behaviour + human intelligence + AI to give you the whole picture of a human with health needs to drive growth. For those interested in primary care disruption, it is fascinating to see the strategy and tactics of Archvale as they enter the market. A 🧵 Historically, NHS GP Partners have most feared disruption from digital providers such as eMed (Babylon) or Livi UK. Circa 7-8 years ago, Babylon in particular spread waves of fear amongst GMS contract holders, who saw the threat from a digital-first provider arriving in areas with young demographics (e.g., university towns) and signing-up all the young and healthy individuals who prop up their patient lists (often bringing ~£150-ish per annum of income, but using the service ~0-1 times - and in the case of students, never outside of term time), and leaving the incumbents with a list of old/chronically ill to look after unsubsidised. The threat of Babylon has now passed, but new models are bubbling away. Archvale is one I'm particularly intrigued by. The business is run/owned by Dr Zubair Ahmed, an MBA graduate and entrepreneur whose first success was with Medicspot where he led the business through a wildly successful few years with private COVID testing. Ahmed has now turned his hand to acquiring / taking over NHS GP practices starting (as far as I can tell) with Carrfield Medical Practice in Sheffield. The model seems to be focused on building super digital friendly practices, and then growing the patient list by acquiring patients through various marketing methods, including: - An SEO optimised website (far outstripping the SEO of a basic NHS GP website) - Clever domain names ( gpsheffield .co . uk) - Easy online practice registration (unlike the first two points, they're not alone in using this) I'm not sure how the venture is going, however I did discover today that other domains have been registered and built out for gpoxford .co . uk and gpnottingham .co . uk (I imagine there are others, I gave up after finding 2) - all registered on the same day as the gpsheffield domain, so I suspect all owned by Archvale. Perhaps mischievously (at least from the perspective of the incumbent NHS GPs), whilst making no clear reference to Archvale, these currently all point to existing local NHS GP services...but are clearly paving the way for Archvale to enter these markets...at which point the SEO optimised and warm web domains would be used for Archvale's own practice (getting them traction on day 1). This feels a potentially much more successful route to success, albeit slower and harder work (initially at least) than Babylon or Livi. However, I often now semi-frequently hear rumours of NHS GP partners (sometimes single handed) employing a cadre of GP locums, pharmacists, nurses and paramedics...practicing only 1-2 clinical sessions a week...and making (quite literally) £500K ++ p.a. If this is the case, Dr Zubair's venture (digital first, ARRS first, University town focused) could prove to be a masterstroke. #NHS #primarycare #disruption Anthony Miller (your expositions inspired me to write this).

Are suppliers misleading you? I've been exploring consumer buying behaviour and thinking about how this applies to health tech and some of the digital suppliers that are available to the NHS. If I was considering a purchase from a framework or planning to self-fund a digital tool. I'd want to explore first the problems I am trying to solve, now or in the future. I'd be looking to choose from a list of options where cost, convenience and features are deciding factors & where the features would best help me tackle those problems I need to solve. (Dissonance reducing buying behaviour) I'd also be variety seeking (another buying behaviour), where I'd like to see new features and would be open to trying features to make sure I'd found the right fit. What I do see in the digital health space, way too often, is habitual buying behaviour. Where a company has a strong brand presence & loyalty, and known as a household name. If you are inclined to make a purchase in this way, please do consider the hazards of doing this. Health tech companies often change focus and move their goals away from the space where they originally found success, as their energy is channelled towards those new goals their service can very quickly fall behind the curve, new features can tail off, the company is no longer looking to solve your problems but looking to make more money in a new market/area. Meanwhile there are other companies who have kept the focus on solving your problems first and foremost and are losing out to Habitual buying behaviour with that household name. They 'believe the hype' and are assuming they have the best product to meet their needs. Yesterday, I witnessed a 'household name' supplier in the digital health tech space tell a roomful of consumers in a sales pitch, yes we do integrate with this(X) system, and 'yes' we have gone through the governance with your governing body. Yes this is a 'trusted' supplier to the NHS, a supplier that works with patient data. False claims about integration it does not have and governance they have not even begun. I wonder how many of those consumers trust that brand and will purchase that software only to find they have a very very long wait before they can actually go live in that area. Please do choose companies that have gone through correct routes, completed the hard work, kept their service ahead of the curve, and focussed on solving your problems, not lining their pockets. Avoid habitual purchasing. Do your homework, look at all providers that can solve your problems, ask for those credentials. There's some wolves in sheep's clothing out there.
