Some thoughts/questions on belonging and disruption below. I’d appreciate your help in navigating this… I’m predisposed to resisting the status quo or BAU in organisations. It feels like the opposite of evolution, entrepreneurship, progress & growth. Therefore, I’m drawn to disruption and appropriate provocation in organisations. I encourage the people we coach/train through TOWARD Ltd to disrupt. However…by disrupting, some employees risk the opportunity to belong. They may get misunderstood, isolated or pushed to the periphery. Myself and my wonderful colleagues Sarah Jones, Denise McGahan, Gordon Laird and Gillian Dornan have been working with a client and this has been a live debate. There’s a tension…or a thin path to navigate. - Can people disrupt and also belong? - Is the need to belong an appropriate need to expect an organisation to address? - Can employees address the need to belong at home…in order to free up the need to disrupt at work? - Should employees prioritise disruption over belonging? Thoughts appreciated folks… 🤔

Moon. At 4:30am this morning in London. 🌿 Fits in so well with the discussions Rory Bakke, Lisa Foulger-Leadership Coach, Impact Generator and I have been having about the significance of urban leaders regaining their connection to nature... So they continuously serve from a place of increased presence, calm and inner-peace. And the ways we would like to take our "Leadership Lessons From Animals" project to its next stage, in connection with that. 🧘🏼♀️ I am not always up for meditation at 4:30am. But I still am a very early riser. And my days do start with meditation, quiet time of reflection and reconnection. 🧘🏼♂️ I tried so many things over the years in the name of creating morning and evening routines. 💡 Here's what I learnt: 1️⃣ I need them! 2️⃣ I need them to suit and serve my unique mind-body-energy system, my purpose, my goals and positively impact my key relationships. So whilst being inspired by teachers of these topics is great and many of the principles taught may have stood the test of time, I needed to create my own versions and blends. 3️⃣ I need the daily combination of the magic of the quietness of the early hours, connecting to my inner world without any interruptions and experiencing the wisdom of nature. So early morning meditation- outdoors, in all seasons if possible, serves me well. 4️⃣ I needed to make Number 3 a habit through constant practice and just keeping with it, because it helps me show up as a better, kinder and more grounded human! ❓What happened when for whatever reason there was a significant period- for instance a period of excessive travel, or a significant unexpected life event, where that routine was disrupted for a little while? ❗I increasingly became an obsessive thinker and doer. I know nowadays we all have a tendency to think and do more. But for some of us who are already like this by nature, it just becomes too much. 🙀 And as a result I felt less whole, was less centred, less kind, LESS ME. Like I was taken over by something else outside of myself, rather than experiencing the world from the inside out. 🌿 So nowadays, I don't go there and I have structures in place to keep with the routine in any way possible, even in crisis. In fact, especially when in crisis. 🌿 Whether it is our personal or professional lives, it helps all our relationships when we are calm, centered and present. And who would not enjoy working with a competent leader who has these qualities as well? How about you? The 88% Perspective: A Call for Global Cultural Synthesis We find ourselves at a crucial juncture in the grand tapestry of human civilisation. The dominant narrative of our world has long been shaped by a minority - the 12% representing Western civilisation. Yet, this narrative overlooks the rich tapestry of human experience embodied by the remaining 88% of the global population. Despite its minority #population status, the Western world has wielded an outsized influence on global affairs, media, and cultural narratives. This influence, while significant, does not negate the profound wisdom and cultural richness found in the civilisations of India, China, Africa, and countless other societies across the globe. It is time to recognise that what we often label as the "New World" is built upon the foundations of ancient and remarkable civilisations. The intellectual and cultural contributions of the non-Western world are not relics of the past but living, breathing entities that continue to shape our global reality. The traditional Western-centric view, with its often monopolistic control over global media and narratives, must evolve. In an era of multipolar politics and increasing global interconnectedness, the perspective of the 12% can no longer dominate our understanding of the world. Instead, we must strive for a more comprehensive, inclusive worldview that embraces the diversity of human experience represented by the 88%. This shift is not about replacing one dominant narrative with another. Instead, it's an invitation to the 12% to join the broader human family - to participate in and contribute to a more holistic understanding of our shared humanity. Doing so opens ourselves to possibilities for happiness, progress, and mutual understanding. The path forward is not perpetuating outdated power #structures or promoting divisive ideologies. Instead, our future happiness and the well-being of coming generations depend on our ability to synthesise diverse worldviews, learn from one another, and celebrate the full spectrum of human culture and wisdom. By embracing this 88% perspective, we do not diminish Western civilisation's achievements. Instead, we place them within a broader context of human achievement, creating a more balanced and nuanced understanding of our shared history and potential #future. As we move forward, let us strive to create a world where no single cultural narrative dominates, where racism and propaganda become relics of the past, and where the intellectual and artistic contributions of all peoples are recognised and valued. This is the promise of the 88% perspective - a more inclusive, harmonious, and genuinely global human experience.
