Advertising just works - long story short there are more businesses who can benefit from better advertising through digital channels. They just don’t know how to put the systems, resources and people in place to deliver. Techy PPC stuff aside you need to know what your LTV or / AOV is per customer (net) and work on a channel to repeatedly acquire new customers profitably (or even at a small loss if needed). Then steadily grow that channel or add more. Yes channels complement each other but the main thing is Do more and do better. One of our clients wanted to take his offline business - online but with anew brand, new domain 0 customers in a really competitive market. No brand search, previous sales data or repeat customers to bank on. I wanted to share this because as optimistic as I am we had planned to be a little bit behind this at this point(ad spend is relatively small at this early stage). Still have a long long way to go but worth it. In this case we’re using a mix of pmax and standard shopping. I’m not 100% happy and still building. Also Attribution is a bit painful (both inGA4 & in platform) but we know ads are driving sales and are growing month on month. Client is happy so we get to eat our pot noodles next week 😊

This site is an extremely interesting case. Brand in the finance sector. Destroyed by the HCU update 2023. Backlinks from digital PR (and paid links), albeit some of the digital PR ones are totally off-topic, and some look like paid DPR placements. The site increased its content by 1000 pages in a year, so I suggest that it might have used AI content to scale. The site is well-designed, with lots of E-E-A-T elements. My gut says this site was hit by multiple factors: a bit of waffly content, some link devaluation, and AI content. It looks like they've deleted over 1000 pages a matter of weeks after being hit, so perhaps they took a chance. An interesting case, might reach out to the owners of this one.

A new Google core update is currently underway, which could help small business websites who have been at the receiving end of previous updates 🤔 At Targeted SEO Ltd. our aim is to always create helpful content for people, rather than try to 'game the system', or fill sites with AI content with sole purpose of manipulating rankings. Google's March Core Update finished rolling out on the 19th April! Despite search (SERP) volatility still being high to very high for US and and normal to high for the UK Apaz Google's aim was to reduce low value content (inc. AI spam content) by -40% but early reports are showing more like -45%, along with targeting sites that have poor user experience or content created for search engines Search Engine Land wrote about it here - https://lnkd.in/eRKY6kMg Anyway, the basic gist of the update is depicted below: 📣 Users don't want copywriters who write a fluffy articles to try and rank for loads of terms. 📣 Even historic sites that provide information aren't safe in search as some have seen traffic declines of -95% 📣 Users want content they can trust, and ultimately big brands have the budget to buy experience and expertise So now the preferred media from users is UGC, forums and discussion boards as these get to the point and aren't angled to try sell you something or have a hidden agenda. Sites like Reddit have gain trust with users due to the helpful answers or content being bumped by other users liking it allowing the best content to raise to the top based on community voting. So shout out to BigBalls69 and n00bSlayer420 who are now the most relevant result in Google without even trying to rank for it 💪 Anyone else noticed more Reddit results in search since the update? #seo #googleupdate #reddit

I was chatting with Lee Waltham yesterday about the changing role of organic search in 2024. Wil Reynolds is a leader in the space and lays it out really well. "Gartner predicted a 25% drop in search traffic by 2026. In reality, my SEO traffic is already down 41% in 2024. But here's the surprising part: my newsletter signups are up 65%, and revenue remains steady." I'm often asked if a .com domain is preferable to a .uk domain. Well, here's something to consider. Google's Gary Illyes recently confirmed that country code domain names (like .uk) actually get a ranking boost in local search results. Here's what you need to know: 👉🏼 Local Preference: Google promotes content local to the user. So, a .uk domain may have an edge for UK-based searches. 👉🏼 Slight Advantage: While .com domains can still perform well, country-specific domains have a "little more benefit" according to Illyes. 👉🏼 Language Matters More: The language of your site matching the user's query language likely has more impact than the domain itself. 👉🏼 User Trust: Country-specific domains can inspire more trust from local users, potentially increasing click-through rates. 👉🏼 Global vs Local: Consider your target audience. If you're focusing on a specific country, a local domain could be beneficial. For a global audience, .com might still be your best bet. Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. 3 underrated skills of working in SEO Showing the potential → to win clients or to get resources Setting expectations → to keep clients happy or manage internal politics Ruthless prioritisation → to actually get those damn results Three of the biggest, yet often hardest parts of SEO. Showing potential, telling that story. → For prospective clients, show them how big their market is (total potential searches * conversions * AOV) → For internal resources, show them the total potential impact of the project To keep people happy (clients or internal). Set those expectations. → Highlight competitors, what they have vs you (missing content, missing links, etc) → Showcase other's growth trajectory tied with inputs To get results. Prioritise effectively. → Fixing those five 404 pages on a site with 200,000 pages likely isn't going to make an impact → Getting thousands of additional pages indexed, probably is Getting sign-off, winning clients, getting results. You nail those three and you'll print money with SEO.

So something I’ve learnt very well over the years of working and managing PPC. You can have all the relevant keywords, correct targeting, optimised bidding signals, custom audiences etc. But if you’ve got a website that dosent convert well or not at all, it’s honestly a waste of spend. Invest in CRO and your ads will elevate the performance.

It's crazy how many marketers are shoehorning the UK Budget into their post today. It's lazy and played out.
