Pleased to be quoted in People Management magazine today on Over half of business leaders report staff absence due to problems accessing public services, TUC reveals. More than half (59 per cent) of business leaders say staff have had to take time off in the last year because they struggled to access public services, a poll by the trade union congress (TUC) revealed. The survey of more than 500 business leaders further explored the specific challenges faced by employees, finding that more than a third (35 per cent) had staff absent from work due to delays in receiving hospital treatment. How can a local authority SLT with such terrible leadership exist today? 2. What mechanisms are in place to identify, and remedy such poor behaviours. 3. Charites need trustees During #Trusteesweek it is troubling to see a NCVO report https://lnkd.in/d6mV8uuF that #trustee vacancies are a widespread issue. Their survey shows: - 4 out 5 (79%) respondents have a least one vacant board position. - Over half of respondents (62%) had two or more vacancies. - 1 in 10 (8%) reported at least four board positions open. Becoming a trustee of a charity is a rewarding role with many benefits. It is  a great opportunity to make an #impact, develop new skills, and gain leadership experience. As a trustee, you have the chance to guide a charity’s #mission, helping create real, positive change. By overseeing the charity's #strategy and decisions, you can directly contribute to its success and its broader impact. Really proud of this one. Today, UK Youth is publishing a new report with Institute for Government that sets out a clear path for government to unlock the power of preventative services, including youth work. https://lnkd.in/e8vEYwDf Preventative local authority spending on services like youth clubs and children’s centres was cut by more than three-quarters (77.9%) between 2009/10 and 2022/23, while acute spending on looked after children and safeguarding services rose by more than half (58.1%) over the same period. This is bad economics and it is hurting young people. Rather than just point out the problem, this report sets out a clear roadmap for the next government to transform millions of lives and save billions of pounds. The rapidly rising needs of young people – with threats to their mental health, employment, and even physical safety – are not inevitable. We have clear evidence of what works to change this trend. Now we need policymakers to play their part and make the long-term commitment required.

Climate Development Officer, 3 days/wk, blended working with a base in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness. Jane is spot on with this: the measures in Budget create big challenges for charities and social enterprises as well as business. It is a tough Budget for YHA (ENGLAND AND WALES) and the hostelling sector, at a time when we are still dealing with the aftermath of Covid, high inflation, the cost of living, and energy crises, and while we await news from Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the future of current funded youth and access programmes such as NCS - National Citizen Service Trust and #GenerationGreen after the end of this year

Like many Charity CEO's my Monday morning thoughts tend to be preoccupied with funding and where we find the money to keep making a difference to the lives of those we exist to serve; in my case, those affected by sexual violence and abuse.. Last week the Budget proposed some fantastic measures and after chronic underfunding, investment in the public services that keep us alive, well, and flourishing is most definitely welcome. However the Budget does create big challenges for charities and social enterprises. At Savana funding is increasingly difficult to secure and we are faced with a triple threat of higher costs, reduced income and increasing demand. We are still dealing with the aftermath of Covid, high inflation, the cost of living and energy crises, and we await news from Ministry of Justice UK on the future of the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Fund (RASASF) to determine whether we will be able to offer some of our core services beyond the end of March. The proposed changes to National Insurance and minimum wage rates will cost us an additional £23,000 a year. This is money we just don't have and we can not continue to do more with even less. It is therefore essential that the Government consider making Charities exempt from the proposed changes, in the same way that they have for public services. The Prime Minister has stated that he is making it a priority to reset the relationship with civil society and build a new partnership that can harness our full potential to rebuild our country. He said that he wants a "relationship that recognises all that civil society does for us - at home and abroad - and aims to realise the enormous potential that exists in organisations like our charities and community groups". That recognition must start by acknowledging (and relieving) the burden that the proposed changes will place on small charities like Savana, limiting our impact and making it harder for us to 'Break the Silence' around Sexual Violence and create the change needed in order to meet the governments own objectives to reduce Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) by 50% within 10 years.
