The last of four new high efficiency engines arrived at our Brigg Energy Park over the weekend as construction ramps up on a new peaking plant that will double the capacity on site to nearly 100MW. Peaking plants only generate electricity when there’s high or peak demand for electricity, or when generation from renewables is too low to meet demand, typically operating for a few hours a day. Once construction is complete, the engines will have the capacity to power 20,000 homes for a full day, which will maintain stability and deliver reliable power across the grid. We are continually seeing communciations over the hundreds of GW's of contracted and connected generators across the UK (think it's now in the realms of 700GW!!!). As part of this, the DNO's and TO's are looking at opportunities to expedite delivering scheme's through new and innovative solutions. One of these is through the use of 'Technical Limits' allowing the network to be run in a less traditional method. Last week we received notifications from National Grid Electricity Distribution for 2 schemes for a client. These would fall within the Phase 2 of the Technical Limit solutions. Frustratingly, the 2 sites they have sent notices on, were both withdrawn for different reasons over the last 2 years and the DNO very clearly notified. Is this just an anomaly or does this evidence that the DNO's have lost track of their schemes and the assocaited queues and are not fully aware of what schemes are alive and dead? Are they updating the TO's when schemes are withdrawn? If this is not an anomaly, how many 'dead' schemes are still sat in the queues, meaning that other schemes are not being allowed to connect earlier than otherwise would be the case? What can be funded? Developing and installing community owned renewable energy generation, including wind, solar PV and hydro. United Utilities has confirmed 30 local construction firms based, or with operations in, the North West as winners of the region’s largest planned investment in water and wastewater infrastructure for more than a century. The water company has chosen 20 local, civils-based firms and 10 mechanical and electrical specialists to work on its £500m+ minor works framework. Partners will work on smaller, county-based schemes – including building solutions in support of the company’s Better Rivers programme, improving process treatment facilities, supporting plans for standardisation across the network and installing storm overflow solutions. Renewable energy scheme in Essex given the go ahead following appeals #btsgb #greenenergy #ensogreenholdings #BESS #batteryenergystoragesystems Planning permission has been granted for a solar farm and battery energy storage site in Wickford, Essex following appeals. The site in question, ‘Land South of Runwell Road, Runwell, Wickford, Essex’, falls under two separate planning authorities: Chelmsford City Council and Rochford District Council. The refusals were based largely on the solar farm’s effect on the Green Belt, although the parties agreed that the proposed cable route would not impact the landscape. The Inspector did concede that in terms of the Green Belt the scheme “would cause harm by reason of inappropriateness, harm to openness and to one of the purposes” (prevent encroachment). However, he concluded that it would have a “Moderate Adverse” effect on the character of the landscape and a “Slight to Moderate Adverse” effect on land beyond the site’s boundaries. In all, the Inspector gave “substantial weight” to the potential harm to the openness of the Green Belt, considered there to be a “low level of less than substantial harm” in terms of local heritage assets, but maintained that the urgent need for renewable energy and to achieve net zero targets outweighed the disadvantages the development would bring.
