Energy market reform, its been a hot topic for a while now and what some might call a slow burn - except if you are talking about WA where the Wholesale Electricity Market has undergone significant change in the last 5 years. Now, the National Electricity Market is about to play catch up - with Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen appointing a four person expert panel to provide final recommendations on a revised market framework for the NEM in a little over 12 months. What does the crystal ball say: ✔️ Incentives for investment in firmed renewable generation and storage ❌ States doing their own thing doesn't work in a 'national market' ❔ A capacity market might be / is likely to be required to meet emission reduction targets and reliability standards ✔️ Gas is back and new gas fired-generation is needed ❔ The cost impact for consumers, is there such a thing as "enough clean, cheap, reliable renewable generation and storage to power Australia’s needs" ? I'm sure there are many in WA that have some thoughts on capacity markets and investment certainty for new generation if the panel want some input from those with real-world experience. Some might even have some thoughts on costs... https://lnkd.in/gyMZ9Xjj Tim Nelson Paula Conboy, NACD.DC GAICD
