No Electrical Sockets Working in South Yorkshire? Here's What to Do Have you ever walked into your home, flipped on a light switch, and... nothing? It's frustrating, right? Whether you're in Rotherham, Sheffield, or anywhere in South Yorkshire, losing power to your sockets can throw a real spanner in the works. But don’t fret! This guide from your local, friendly electricians at MP Electrical is here to help you troubleshoot and, hopefully, get your power back on without too much hassle. 1. Check for a Tripped Circuit Breaker in Your Home First things first, let’s check the circuit breaker. It’s a common culprit for these kinds of problems. Here’s how you do it: Find Your Consumer Unit (Fuse Box): This is usually hiding in a utility room, hallway cupboard, or maybe your garage. Look at the Breakers: Are any switches in the "off" position or stuck somewhere between "on" and "off"? Reset the Breaker: If you find a tripped breaker, flip it fully to "off" and then back to "on." If it trips again right away, there might be a bigger issue at hand. That’s your cue to call us at MP Electrical for a professional assessment. 2. Examine Your RCD (Residual Current Device) for Electrical Safety Next, let’s talk about the RCD. This handy device helps prevent electrical shocks by shutting off the power when it detects an imbalance. Locate the RCD: It’s usually in the consumer unit with a test and reset button. Press the Reset Button: If it’s tripped, pressing this should bring the power back. If resetting the RCD doesn’t work or it keeps tripping, it could be a faulty device or a wiring issue that needs a professional touch. 3. Inspect for Loose Electrical Connections in Your Sockets Loose or damaged wiring can also be the culprit. Here’s a basic way to check: Turn Off Power: Always switch off the power from the consumer unit before you start poking around. Check the Sockets: Carefully remove the faceplate and inspect the wiring. Any loose connections? Look for Damage: Signs of burning, frayed wires, or loose terminals are red flags. I'd like some help please from HV (MV) generator guys. Despite the fact my company has commissioned >25 gas engine sites we are not sure what the standard is as we have worked with…many sites but few suppliers. I’ve a few fairly basic questions to feed into our designs. Q1: Where are the CT’s? Are they on the star point side or the load side? Q2: Are they metering class or protection class or are they 2 separate CT’s? Q3: Are VT’s installed in the generator top box where the outgoing cable is connected?        A is the voltage monitoring 3 phase or 1 phase Q4: Can the CT’s be used for .        A Overload        B Short circuit        C Differential

My suggestion is when you are in a customer's home you casually ask them, if appropriate, whether they are happy with their heating. While you are working there, they can read the leaflet and when you are finished you can ask them if they have any questions. I will provide the leaflet and the instructions for you to be able to complete a sale. You will then buy the product from us and then you charge the customer a margin and the cost of installation. So who’s going to the #InstallerShow next week? So many Heat Pump Innovations to see there and a great speaker schedule too. I’ll be on stand 5H42, showing off our Heat Pump Ready solution for testing heat losses and optimising heat pump performance for each home. Every time I speak to installers calculating heat loss keeps coming up: it’s so important for heat pump design but such a time consuming process and the uncertainty around assumed values gives people a lot of fear. We reckon we can do better than this, and replace a survey with a measurement and thermal model of the home that will be accurate, low cost to deliver, and give the same result whoever conducts the test. Fail to ride though faults in compliance with the GB Grid Code and your generators output may be restricted. It could then take a week to a year to fix! The point above was a highlight from today's National Grid ESO operability transparency forum, which covered Fault Ride Thorough and the importance of compliance. Is there really a need for bill validation or are Energy Suppliers so good that we can be confident all the invoices they issue are correct..... I personally see on a daily basis the amount of errors and horrifying mistakes that suppliers send out to customers 😱. I see the billing formats that are used that have been cobbled together and more worryingly suppliers are not willing to accept they have issues with their billing systems 😡 . A prime example of this is the current SSE billing where instead of issuing credit invoices they are just showing the figures on a normal invoice as a negative figure 😣. Luckily we can act quickly and amend our software however not as easy for many people who do bill validation. Who know maybe one day suppliers will bill everything correct 🤥

London Bridge lighting We did a callout to a shop which had lost a lot of lighting and power. They had done all the right things and needed an electrician. What can you check before you call out an electrician that might save you the cost of the callout. If you have lost all power and lighting to a premises, it may be worth considering whether there is a power cut. Just because the property next door has power look along the street and see if there is others that are out. Electricity is supplied in three phases so pretty much every third property is on a different supply. The next thing to check is your fuse board,are any of the safety devices down. If they are try pushing them up, you will see in most fuse boards that there are some devices that are wider than others. These RCD units can control more than one circuit. If you find one of these down, switch off the narrower switches around it, then try putting the RCD up. If the RCD then goes up, turn the narrower MCB safety devices on one at a time. If when you switch on one of the narrow MCB safety devices, the RCD goes down, put that MCB down and switch everything else back on. This will give you most of the power and lighting while you wait for an electrician.
