"AWARENESS AI" Have finished reading "AI Snake Oil: What Artificial Intelligence Can Do, What It Can’t, and How to Tell the Difference" by Sayash Kapoor and Arvind Narayanan . This book is eye-opener at many levels and goes beyond umbrella term AI covering Rogue AI, Predictive AI and Generative AI with real-world examples. One key takeaway from this book is showing a clear distinction between the "hype" and "reality" while stressing AGI has a long way to go. This book touches on the automation paradox, how regulations can help us innovate safely, the importance of the ladder of generality, the role of randomness, the reproducibility crisis, and whether AI can fix social media? One of the funniest examples from the book was in the last 50 years, the only job that has truly been replaced was elevator operator. So let's not worry about jobs that might disappear but look at the ones that will be created. Finally, anyone looking for a good holiday read and to expand their "AWARENESS" this book is a recommended choice.

#NFT Token serving as a secure, biometrically protected, cryptographic proof of ownership for an EMV card, and an offline / online PIN verification alternative? This novel, Cardholder Verification Method (CVM) concept, has the potential to revolutionize the payment experience at physical POS terminals, by making them always #contactless, fully #accessible and #touchless, regardless of the transaction amount. This TD patent pending concept can enable customers to make uninterrupted #contactless #payments, even for amounts above the contactless limit, without need to insert their EMV cards and enter PIN - simply by proving that they 'own' NFT Token, using biometrics (or mobile phone passkey as a fallback) on their personal, #WebAuthN / #FIDO-compatible mobile phone. At a recent LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) event, one of my co-panelists, Sonu Chopra-Khullar mentioned the potential of using embeddings outside of processing language. And I came across a paper that does just that! Robert Richmond and co-authors (Xavier Gabaix, Ralph Koijen, Motohiro Yogo - all heavy hitters) develop an Asset2Vec embeddings for financial assets based on investor holdings. This is a neat way to decide if company A is (or is not) similar to company B. Its got uses ranging from predicting asset returns for systematic strategies to portfolio stress testing. Just watch the interaction. “GPT-4o (“o” for “omni”) is a step towards much more natural human-computer interaction—it accepts as input any combination of text, audio, and image and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. It can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds, which is similar to human response time(opens in a new window) in a conversation.”

NatWest is boosting the IQ of its digital chatbot Cora with generative AI to provide more nuanced, pro-active answers to customer queries. Developed in collaboration with IBM, Cora+ will initially be introduced as a 12 week pilot to address learnings and updates, to be fully rolled out at a later date. Customers will be able ask questions and receive responses in a more natural, human style and are provided with links to requested information, which they can either view immediately or bookmark for later. Once Cora+ is fully rolled out, the bank says the digital assistant will be able to anticipate customer needs, without requiring the customer to think of what to ask, based on past interactions and transaction history. David Lindberg, CEO of Retail Banking at NatWest, says: “AI has been a key tool for NatWest since we introduced Cora in 2017 and nearly 11 million queries were answered last year alone to help customers manage their money. Today, we’re taking the next step by introducing Cora+ and becoming one of the first banks to use generative AI in this way to provide more personalised and responsive support." #yoursuccessourbusiness

To add a humour laden flavour , here is a bit of gig :) A humorous comparison of Calico and Cilium: Note: I am a big fan of both and cant choose one over the other.. Calico: - Like a calico cat - colorful, playful, and a bit quirky. - "Hey, I'll just randomly assign some IP addresses and hope for the best!" - "Networking? Meh, I'll just wing it!" Cilium: - Like a ninja - stealthy, precise, and deadly efficient. - "I'll sneak up on those packets and route them with ease!" - "Networking? Child's play. I'm a ninja, hear me roar!" Of course, this comparison is all in good fun, and both Calico and Cilium are powerful tools in their own right. Calico is known for its flexibility and ease of use, while Cilium is renowned for its performance and security features. Interesting how old threads can weave back into your life. I’ve just received ethics approval for my Master’s study, which means I’ll be launching the first questionnaire soon! 👩‍💻 What fascinates me is how this new research takes me back to my Honours project in 2003, when I built JavanOwl - a web-based tool that allowed people to write and run Java code right in their browser. It was innovative for its time, using the internet to make programming more accessible to those without the usual resources. It looks a bit dated now though 😂 Two decades later, AI coding assistants are lowering the barriers in a similar way - making it easier to learn new programming languages and reshaping which skills matter most in software development. My Master’s study explores the impact of these tools on how we build software and the skills we rely on. I didn’t expect to revisit this theme, but here I am - still fascinated by the ways technology reshapes how we learn and build software.
