I had the pleasure of presenting at the L&G Data Festival in our Cardiff office, where I introduced the concept of a Business Event Mesh. Business Events are significant changes or occurrences within business processes. This innovative approach captures these Events on a Mesh and makes them available for next best action by triggering AI Agents. Introducing AI services anomaly detection is possible. These Events can also be treated as Data Products. It has the potential for transforming how we handle real-time data across the organization, providing real value in several key areas: Predicting customer lifetime value to sharpen targeted campaigns Speeding up claims registration to improve service levels Proactively managing and preventing customer churn Streamlining data deletion and archival and management processes Tracking customer interactions to deliver more personalized services Keeping policy details up-to-date in real-time It was amazing to see the excitement and dedication around how we’re using technology and data to shape our future and better serve our customers. As an industry we have been talking about annual statements for at least the 12 years I have been here at Financial Technology Research Centre (FTRC)/Protection Guru and yet many insurers still do not issue them. Whilst not an annual statement in the sense of providing details of my cover, this email from Vitality does provide something else we often talk about. It provides me with a reminder of the value I have received from them over the last year. It reminds me that I am getting day to day value whilst still being covered. It's a powerful message shown to me in pounds and pence. Indeed, I have probably gained more value than shown here as I have had a health check and used the PMI for a specialist consultation and physio due to a running injury. Well done Vitality, I for one will not be cancelling cover if I can help it. P.s. for anyone wondering why I am only silver, this is a joint policy so I have to generate twice the number of points to go up a status compared to a single plan (my wife has now joined a gym but always forgets her watch).

I know I’ve already posted twice about yesterday’s APPG damning report on the FCA, but it really is a truly fascinating read. Link here: https://lnkd.in/erw-ka_P The testimonies of 175 respondents to the APPG’s Call for Evidence included whistleblowers “who had the courage to speak out first time round, and then to do so again for the purpose of this exercise”, “the victims of regulatory failure, who in providing the testimony for this report had to relive unpleasant and often distressing experiences”, and current and former employees of the FCA whose “all-important ‘insider’ commentary has confirmed and given credence and credibility to what many outsiders have been saying.” The report goes on to say: “Sad to say, the testimony received suggests that there are very significant shortcomings to the FCA. It comes across as an opaque and unaccountable organisation, slow to act and even slower to admit it has got things wrong and to change. The individuals who generously shared their experiences with us told tragic tales of regulatory failure causing enormous financial and emotional distress. Perhaps some of the most compelling evidence comes from current and former employees of the regulator itself, who depict its culture and leadership as profoundly defective.” CULTURE. That’s the thing the FCA requires to be top-notch in the firms it regulates, from the top down. It’s one of the reasons the SM&CR was brought in, to hold individuals to account. How many times have we heard the FCA bang the drum on ‘non-financial misconduct’? That’s a culture issue. And yet the report says: “The FCA has continued to consistently demonstrate that it has failed to shake off the problematic culture that is at the heart of its problems.” A New City Agenda report in 2016 said the FCA was hampered by a sub-optimal organisational culture. Eight years on, and nothing seems to have changed (for the better, anyway). So is the FCA doomed? CAN it recover from this? Maybe. Former MP Henry Smith is quoted in the report as saying “I would like to think it is not too late for the FCA to be reformed such that it becomes fit for purpose, and I believe it ought to be given the opportunity to do that. However, if the FCA is unable to improve in relation to its all-important consumer protection brief, then nothing should be off the table.” I truly hope the FCA DOES become ‘fit for purpose’, as it is galling for firms to be reading about all the issues their regulator needs to deal with internally, yet having to comply with a myriad of rules on how they are to manage and conduct their own businesses. Don’t get me wrong – all authorised firms MUST abide by the rules in the FCA Handbook, no matter what they think about them, or about the regulator that produced them, and I and my colleagues at ICS are here to help with that. Important information for BT Redcare customers… BT will be closing its Redcare operations from 1 August 2025, or earlier if your contract expires before then. Therefore, if you want to maintain your remote monitoring system, or you need to maintain it to comply with insurance policy conditions, then you’ll need to move to another alarm signalling provider, taking care to ensure the replacement is of equivalent performance standard or better in order to avoid a breach of condition. It is advisable to liaise with your alarm maintenance company to make sure your replacement is the same or better than the product it’s replacing. Whilst BT Redcare signalling is mostly associated with intruder alarm systems, you may have other systems that rely on it for remote signalling, such as fire alarms, fridge temperature alarms, sprinkler or other fire protection systems, water leak detection equipment, and hold-up systems. Many of you will have seen today’s announcement about the change in leadership at Velonetic at a critical time for the Blueprint Two programme. First up, let me thank Chris Halbard for all his hard work over the last 18 months. Whilst we had many full and frank exchanges of views along the way, I have huge respect for his sheer determination to drive this programme forward, as well as the focus and momentum that has been built around the programme during his tenure. Whilst I know many people are frustrated that we are not further forward, we simply wouldn’t be where we are today without Chris’s endless hard work. I would also like to pay credit to his people leadership skills - he inspired huge loyalty in his team and ensured that he defended them from unfair criticism at every turn. He was also a champion for social diversity and we had been quietly working together on what we could jointly do on this topic once Blueprint 2 got over the line. Finally, I would say that when he first arrived at Velonetic, I suspect Chris was more than a little perplexed by the London Market and its ways, but I know he will be leaving us as a huge fan of the market we all know and love. Thank you Chris for all your hard work. Bob James at Lloyd's is known to many of us and is another outstanding people leader. He has lived and breathed this programme since mid-2021. He understands its complexity more than just about anyone else out there. Bob has a big job ahead of him and I am confident that he can provide the leadership and collaboration this programme needs to drive it to a positive conclusion. As a market, none of us have wavered from the need to get this project done - there is no choice. We simply have to re-platform central services as a key component in digitising this market. We must remember this imperative as Velonetic drive forward under Bob’s leadership and we all must pull together to make this happen. There will be bumps along the way - that is a guaranteed certainty for a programme of this enormous scale and complexity. But we must hold steady to our vision of a digital marketplace. Bob - the entire market is rooting for you to be successful and we at the Lloyd's Market Association will do everything in our power to support you, the Velonetic team, Lloyd’s and our LMA Members to get this programme over the line. There is much work to do - onwards we go, together and with our eyes firmly focused on the digital marketplace we all want and need.

Today we launched our latest research, ‘Active Women, Healthy Lives: Understanding barriers to women’s participation in physical activity’ which highlights a critical issue in women’s health in the UK.     In partnership with The Well HQ and Women in Sport, the report reveals that less than 1 in 4 women in the UK, are meeting the recommended weekly exercise targets.    This raises urgent questions on the health impact that this is having on women and how we, as society, can better support women in maintaining healthy physical activity habits. As government and businesses alike grapple with the implications of our nation’s worsening health, it is crucial that we understand the issues raised in this report and look at how we can all have an impact here.
