I am a Trustee of Education Africa which funds the Marimba Hubs Programme which is testimony to the good work that Education Africa does in order to keep children of South Africa safe and focused. The unique method we use to teach the marimba has both cognitive and social benefits for the learners.

Here are YouTube video links of the Marimbas: this was part of the CNN International Inside Africa documentary from 2016 and filmed at our Marimba Festival.

As per above, CNN International Inside Africa has done two documentaries on Marimbas using Education Africa as the backbone. In the 2018 documentary, two of our Marimba bands combined live on stage with Grammy Award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo performing “Homeless”. What made this performance unique was that our deaf band from the Dominican School for the Deaf in Hammanskraal performed with one of our able bands from Reiger Park.

As a result of your support these young people are truly living the saying: “you only get out what you put in and through really hard work you will be rewarded”. Throughout their lives they are going to be able to tell people: “we worked hard and we were rewarded for our hard work!” They come from tough communities that more often than not do not experience “you only get out what you put in”. This will be something they can pass onto their friends and family and to their children and grandchildren one day!
