Cabinet Office supports the Prime Minister, and ensures the effective running of government. As the corporate headquarters for government, in partnership with HM Treasury, we take the lead in certain critical policy areas. We are responsible for: • supporting collective government, helping to ensure the effective development, coordination and implementation of policy • supporting the National Security Council and the Joint Intelligence Organisation, coordinating the government’s response to crises and managing the UK’s cyber security • promoting efficiency and reform across government through innovation, better procurement and project management, and by transforming the delivery of services • promoting the release of government data, and making the way government works more transparent • creating an exceptional civil service, improving its capability and effectiveness • promoting social action and National Citizen Service, and growing the social investment market • political and constitutional reform

More than £300billion a year is spent on public procurement. Minister Gould chaired a roundtable discussion with commercial stakeholders consulting on a new National Procurement Policy Statement. The discussion focused on how the statement can harness this spend to deliver on the Government’s Missions, such as by boosting economic growth and social value in communities across the country. The new statement is set to come into force alongside the new Procurement Act in February 2025.

This week the UK's Paymaster General and Minister for EU Relations, Nick Thomas-Symonds, visited Strasbourg to engage with key EU interlocutors. The Minister held productive meetings with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Sandro Gozi, Chair of the Delegation to the EU-UK Parliamentary Assembly, and other Members of the European Parliament, to discuss the importance of inter-parliamentary dialogue as we take forward the reset. Minister Thomas-Symonds also met Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič to discuss our joint agenda and strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as the economy, energy, security and resilience.
