'As Chief Operating Officer for the Civil Service, I want to celebrate and recognise the incredible work that goes on across the UK Civil Service to deliver excellent public services right across the UK. I also want to share best practice and inspire others with the brilliant examples of service we see every day. Which is why I am honoured to be a champion for the Civil Service Awards 2024, our chance to recognise the exceptional achievements from across the Civil Service and shine a light on the great work that we do. The awards are a chance for civil servants to nominate their colleagues from across the country to be recognised and celebrated at the ceremony later this year. I am delighted to be returning as the champion for the Programme of the Year Award, along with Nick Smallwood (Chief Executive Officer of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority and Head of Government's Project Delivery Function), where we will be looking for programmes from across the Civil Service that embrace innovative approaches and programme management. So please head over to www.civilserviceawards.com and nominate yourself, your team or your colleagues before 5pm tomorrow, Friday 26th July!" This afternoon, the Prime Minister Keir Starmer, issued his first message to the Civil Service, sharing his vision for a mission-driven government with a real sense of purpose. He said "Delivering change won’t be easy, you don’t need me to tell you that. It will require a different way of working. One of openness, of collaboration and transparency in everything we do. But from the get go I want you to know that– you have my confidence, my support and, importantly, my respect. Together, as one team, we can deliver our mission of national renewal and change. Let’s start that work immediately."

Over the last few weeks tens of thousands of civil servants have attended Civil Service Live events across the country. The annual events give civil servants the opportunity to come together to develop skills, create connections, and generate ideas that will equip the Civil Service to be the best it can in serving the government of the day and delivering for citizens. Last year’s events were recognised at the Conference & Events Awards, picking up the bronze award in the ‘Best Conference / Event Series (over 2,000 attendees)’ category at the Awards Ceremony on Friday. Head of Events at the Cabinet Office Alexandra Whiteley says: “I’m thrilled that Civil Service Live has been recognised in this way. Organising and delivering the events takes a year round effort from a wide range of people, not least our incredible speakers and amazing volunteers whose efforts ensure each event is created by civil servants for civil servants.”
