I caught up with fellow Instinctif Partners energy lead Ross Melton to discuss our takeaways from an informative Energy Networks Association (ENA) #EnergyInnovationSummit. A great couple of days catching up with clients, former colleagues, network companies and their vital innovative supply chain. 💡Vast amounts of innovation is taking place, but it feels in many cases to be evolution now rather than revolution. ⚙️A whole systems mindset has never been more important and this matters most at the grid-edge and with consumers. ⚡️Innovation successes need clearer routes to commercialisation at scale and to become BAU - and this will mean making them the option of choice for consumers. It was great to attend the launch of the 2024 Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan last night at the inspiring venue the Science Museum. Hosted by RenewableUK with the Offshore Wind Industry Council, KPMG, The Crown Estate and Crown Estate Scotland there was also a buoyant and positive video message from Claire Coutinho, Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The IGP identifies key areas in which the UK should prioritise investment to secure value for UK industry. At the heart of each of the five technology areas identified, innovation is driving the UK position as a world leader, with Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, High Value Manufacturing Catapult and National Composites Centre working hard alongside OEMs, SMEs and Developers to maintain and further UK innovation capabilities. If we capitalise on this the economic opportunities are significant; manufacturing investment, tens of thousands of new jobs and regeneration of our coastal communities focused around renewable energy, not to mention ever greater energy security and cheaper bills for consumers. #IGP24 #offshorewind #offshorerenewables #innovation #energysecurity #industrialstrategy
