“I attended one of Matt's webinars about MS SharePoint and then had a 1:1 follow-up session. It was extremely helpful. I'm confident that I can now go and set up my SharePoint and Teams so that I can give my clients and project teams somewhere to collaborate easily. Matt clearly understands his stuff and is very helpful. I'd recommend him to anyone who needs help with any aspect of their IT setup.”

How can your IT strategy stay competitive?
A key problem here is that the organisation doesn't appreciate that IT strategy is something that needs constant consideration over the life of the business, if -- of course -- that business is in a place where it wants to be on a path of continuously improving efficiency. This requires senior leadership to "push down" to the organisation the message that IT is strategically important, and provide tools to empower anyone within the business to contribute to how that strategy is formed and implemented.

How do you overcome risks when using outdated programming languages?
Older technology usually means an older codebase, and older codebases usually point to less rigour around cybersecurity hygiene because there was historically less appreciation of how important defensive measures within the code was. If you're seeing an older codebase, the first step should be assume that there are problems to be found, and task someone on the team with finding them. (Offering some sort of "internal bounty" can be good here. Using a more junior member of the team to give them insights into older practice can also be beneficial.) It's good to do this as a "solo" mission, especially as working on old codebases are not seen as being "as cool" as working on the new shiny.

Surely we need our PCs — but these new devices, smartphones and tablets, are not toys. They make us laugh and let us cry. They become woven into our lives and become something we can’t live without. But why?

Surely we need our PCs — but these new devices, smartphones and tablets, are not toys. They make us laugh and let us cry. They become woven into our lives and become something we can’t live without. But why?
In his book Death of the PC, Matt Baxter-Reynolds — author, columnist, and technology sociologist — will take you through why post-PC devices speak to people and how they change their work and home lives. Importantly, he’ll show you how the enterprise PC industry will still let technologists make a living despite the chaos of change. -
