We're seeing an increase in enquiries from companies like Linkpool (featured in this article) who were born in the cloud, and are now hitting an age/maturity where a transformative saving can be made by switching to Colocation. Worth a read for those in my network who are beginning to hit thresholds of control, flexibility, scalability and cost in hyperscale cloud.

Last week at IBM we held our UKI First Line Sales Manager academy, a fantastic couple of days to uplift and inspire our leaders. I had the pleasure of running a session on ‘creating a movement’, and shared some personal experiences of leadership and driving change: 🥁 Many years ago, at a leadership training event with around 600 leaders, we were split into four groups, each person was given a bongo drum and the 4 groups learned a different rhythm. After being taught by the experts, they asked for a volunteer to lead the group. 🎶 I'll never forget it, the woman was from the smallest business, probably one of the most junior leaders in the room. In a matter of minutes, she was orchestrating the entire group to perform a brilliant new song. Everyone was in perfect harmony. It was a great lesson that anyone can lead from wherever they are in an organisation and it was so powerful that I can recall the rhythm to motivate myself to this day. 🚶🏼‍♀️‍➡️Of course, driving changes requires a movement and there is no movement without the first follower. We are all leaders at times and followers at others and it goes without saying that we cannot lead without followers. Understanding this and building it into how we lead is critical. There is huge benefit to coaching first-line managers, they are the pivot point of bringing strategy to life and the people who bring culture to life for our teams. #FLSMacademy2024

Along with some of my colleagues from the Kyndryl Marketing Leadership team and a host of other marketing leaders around the world I joined the remarkable Marketing Leadership Masterclass led by Thomas Barta and Syl Saller CBE over the past few months.   It’s a series of short, sharp and practical lectures that I really enjoyed. What makes it different is that it’s not about doing marketing – it’s about the challenges of leading marketing today.    I wont attempt to summarise all the topics we discussed but some of the ideas that resonated with me the most:   - Don't use jargon. Use the language of your business, not marketing. Speak plainly! - Nemawashi. Build consensus. I first came across this idea when I visited Japan and I’m sure that it is one of the reasons why our Japan ABM team was successful last year. - Chase distinctiveness. Picking the right people is not about a long list of criteria. Great people don’t tick all the boxes – they tick the right boxes. What are the 1 or 2 things that matter most? Hire for these.   - Relationships really matter. We’re shifting from the selling economy to the relationship economy. I see this every day in our business – success depends on the right relationships - The final session was titled Be Brave, Aim Higher and it was a great way to finish. Be bold – but pick the right moment. Being cautious is risky!   I confess that I found it a challenge to stay on top of the lectures and needed some intensive catching up at times. It was worth the effort.
