B2B sales = where the progression and reward is as a salesperson If you’re serious about your sales career then you’ll need this experience. Particularly if you want to break into tech sales. If you have any cold outreach, prospecting or outbound calling on your CV from a B2B environment then use it. That’s transferable. And if you don’t, then it might be worth considering other B2B sales roles as a stepping stone. Sometimes it’s better to earn and learn. Tech sales isn’t an easy space to break into, but it can be a rewarding one. An entry sales role in tech can get you £35k as a base If you perform then you can add £10-15k to this in year 1. If you’re consistent and good then you can progress to your next role in 18 months. You’ll earn more in this next role. And if you’re good then you can earn a lot more. This isn’t for everyone though. And a reason for wanting to get into sales isn’t just because you like speaking with people. 2 tips to increase how often you get approached for relevant roles on LinkedIn ⬇: ✅ Add as many keywords to your profile as possible, you would be surprised how many Payments sales professionals don't have Payments on their LinkedIn profile and it can be causing you to lose out on loads of amazing opportunities. Recruiters use specific keywords to search for the most relevant candidates for a role, some jobs will be industry specific or will require someone who has sold in to a specific vertical so get them on your profile!! ✅ Know what role you want to be approached for and mirror your LinkedIn to be similar. I'm not saying lie about your experience but you can highlight key points which are more relevant to your desired role. I've spoken with clients recently that have struggled to secure talent for their SDR teams. Unnecessarily lengthy interview processes, amongst general market conditions seems to be the main culprit for this. With attrition rates as high as they are, striking the right balance of thoroughly evaluating suitability and maintaining momentum in the process can be a tough one. Here's how I would structure a succinct 3 stage interview process that should cover off both: Stage 1 - Behavioral Interview with Talent Team/Hiring Manager via teams - Assessing Cultural Alignment/Understanding of the company - Opportunity to get to know the candidate Stage 2 - In person Sales Focused Interview with 2 x roleplays - Sales related questions to assess general understanding/competency - Roleplay #1 to assess ability to think under pressure, rejection handling etc - Roleplay #2 to assess coachability and willingness to take on feedback Stage 3 - Meet The Team / Informal Offer Realistically these 3 stages could be completed in 10-14 days tops, but does require a commitment from all parties to keep things moving. Love it or hate it, cold calling remains a powerful tool for building relationships and driving sales. When you start in sales, cold calling can be a daunting experience, so here are my best tips for a successful cold call: 1. Do Your Research: Research the prospect before you pick up the phone to ensure you are confident in conveying how your product/ service can provide value specifically to their company. 2. Practice Your Pitch: You only have the first few seconds of a call to grab someone's attention so make sure you are confident in what you are saying and keep it concise. 3. Listen: While a script can be nice to follow for a call, make sure you are actively listening to the person on the other line. Focus on listening more and talking less. 4. Prepare For Objections: It can be tough to deal with objections and rejections, so be prepared to address any objections from the other person before you pick up the phone. 5. Follow-Up: Remember to follow up and be consistent. If the call doesn't result in an immediate sale, there is still an opportunity to build relationships that may result in a sale or opportunity down the road. Cold calling is not easy, but by preparing yourself, you will be successful in building relationships and creating sales opportunities. What's the most overlooked skillset when hiring a sales leader whether perm or fractional? In my opinion it's the energy, personality, drive and chemistry someone brings to the team. I have posted job ads for CRO's with sometimes up to 100 applicants who look perfect on paper. Or seen a bunch of fractional leaders shouting from the roof top about theory and GTM strategy. However, on paper, the one unquantifiable and possibly the most important questions is....... what's the energy this person brings to the dynamic within the business? This is the game changing sweet spot which if you get right, will always bring GTM to life with the best results. How do you achieve this? It needs to be headhunted for, It can only happen through endless conversations and deep understanding of the founder/the business and a relentless search to find the utopian fit. You’ve all seen adverts, OTE £100k+ for a trainee recruiter 🤯 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 - OTE is on target earnings, how much can you earn if you hit 100% of your targets. 𝐍𝐎𝐓... What Phil did in 1999 using the yellow pages in a record-breaking year, plus an extra £20k because... well... inflation 🙃 If you put the OTE as £50k, it needs to be achievable. In Sales looking for a new role? 🔍 If you are currently on the market, you are probably speaking to a number of recruiters / businesses. So here are some tips on how to prep: ➡Know your figures - this is the most important thing and I cannot stress this enough. A sales people that doesn't know their figures raises question marks. I ALWAYS ask for the past 2 financial years and YTD as well as average deal value ➡CV - CV is the first thing a potential employer will see, make sure you talk about your achievements and products/services you sold so they can quickly see if you are suitable ➡Interview Q's - As a sales person, don't let your first questions be around working hours and holiday allowances. Ask the GOOD stuff, about products, success stories, growth plans, challenges etc

Hot take, but I don't think you can call yourself a good salesperson if you can't cold call. I've spoken to many salespeople who believe the same. And I'm not throwing shade on those who manage and grow accounts, there's a huge value add in what you do as well. Also not throwing shade on AEs, cause I know you're absolute operators too. BUT When was the last time you picked up the phone and cold called? Do you think you could still do it? Are you afraid of rejection? I think the rejection piece is probably key. Cold calling builds a thick skin, fosters outcome independence and forces you outside of your comfort zone, no matter how many times you do it. Even if you're a senior AE, I still think you should be doing some element of cold calling in your job, not only for your own business development, but to help work better with the SDR team too!
