The £5K Button? Conversion Rate Optimisation Sometimes... isn’t about big changes. I switched a red “Sign up today!” button to a green one on a landing page. Sounds trivial, right? But the conversion rate jumped from 1.7% to 3.2%. No budget changes... you have increased the ROI for 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 At 1.7%, the business was getting 17 conversions per month = At 3.2%, the business was getting 32 conversions per month Why? Green means trust. Red screams danger. The lesson? Test everything.... even the seemingly small stuff. What’s the tiniest CRO tweak you’ve made that drove big results?

Retargeting is basically digital stalking, but we call it “strategy.” It's that “strategy” where you’re following people online, showing them your ads again and again until they remember your name… or start avoiding it. When we say retargeting works, we’re not exaggerating. Statistics show that retargeted ads are 10x more likely to lead to conversions compared to top of funnel ads. People often need multiple touchpoints to make a purchase decision, especially in crowded markets. Seeing an ad once? It might create awareness, but it rarely drives action. The key here is balance. Yes, retargeting brings high returns, but overdo it, and your brand becomes a nuisance. There's a fine line between being memorable and being stalker-ish. Use frequency caps, experiment with fresh creatives, and adapt your message as the customer progresses through their journey. Also note that you may not need to do the whole top/middle/bottom of funnel ad set-up in 2024. Meta is pretty good at figuring out who should see your ads. If someone’s interacted with a sales page, the next ad should feel different. It’s all about understanding where they are in their decision-making process. So, next time someone calls it digital stalking, agree and then remind them that sometimes, in marketing, persistence is the secret sauce. #Retargeting #DigitalMarketing #AdStrategy

We need to hold agencies accountable for paying creators on time. The amount of late payments from agencies I have experienced recently is astronomical. Industry standard is net 30. If you’re lucky net 15 and if you’re even luckier you can negotiate an upfront payment/ deposit. Now I have seen a rise of data driven creative agencies with net 45 + net 60 payment terms taking another 30 days to actually pay. This is absolutely unacceptable… I always push back on net 45 and rarely agree to net 60 unless talent genuinely love the brand. We need to have a lot more serious conversation about brands paying agencies on time + agencies paying creators on time. Obviously it’s not always on the agency but often times it is…

Hmm I see the opposite in my accounts! The moment I test manual cpc for brand campaigns, I see a significant drop in performance. However there might be as always a difference when it comes to brand campaigns with high volume vs. Low volume brand campaigns. Also moving my clients to portfolio strategies in order to limit cpc anomalies.

Don’t use an axe 🪓 with SEO, use a scalpel 😷 I’ve just added my comment to the post linked below about content pruning and I thought it was worth share more widely. Here’s my take; Content pruning (removing low quality/low value pages from your website) can be effective, however, this largely depends on the types of pages, the scale of content on your site and the ability or inability you have to improve your content. It’s not just clicks and impressions to look at for target pages to prune, also gather data around; ✨Backlinks to these pages ✨Internal links to these pages ✨Direct/typed/bookmarked visits ✨Other traffic sources to the pages Well linked to or visited pages (beyond organic search) may be worth preserving or redirecting to a ‘like’ page. Further, low clicks and impressions might just be because the page is orphaned, or perhaps has few or weak internal links. Pages can be improved with internal links and revisiting on-page copy. It’s normally better to use a scalpel rather than an axe unless you’ve got large scale, procedurally generated pages and this is a big issue.

AOV > Conversion Rate Look, I know conversion rate hacks are all the rage. Boost those click-through numbers, right? But here's the thing - if you really want to move the needle on your bottom line, you need to be focusing on average order value (AOV) too. The best part? It's often way easier to influence AOV than it is to boost overall conversions. Think about it - what's easier? Getting someone to buy in the first place, or convincing them to buy a little more? The former is conversion rate, the latter is AOV. That’s why AOV is king. Shift your focus to getting customers to spend more per order. Trust me on this one - AOV is where the real money’s at.

This site is an extremely interesting case. Brand in the finance sector. Destroyed by the HCU update 2023. Backlinks from digital PR (and paid links), albeit some of the digital PR ones are totally off-topic, and some look like paid DPR placements. The site increased its content by 1000 pages in a year, so I suggest that it might have used AI content to scale. The site is well-designed, with lots of E-E-A-T elements. My gut says this site was hit by multiple factors: a bit of waffly content, some link devaluation, and AI content. It looks like they've deleted over 1000 pages a matter of weeks after being hit, so perhaps they took a chance. An interesting case, might reach out to the owners of this one.

The JBH Link Mapping Tool. Looking at a spreadsheet of links can be super challenging. It's all data and numbers. But... When you visualise things, it looks very different. We built this as part of our internal tool stack, and I use it in all SEO strategies for clients. I can quickly zoom in and see any link, look at pages where links are clustered and identify areas where more links are needed. It is also super helpful for identifying sites with spammy links that are likely to be devalued or are causing issues. This is a new SEO client and has done quite well building its brand and has some solid brand mentions and links, despite only having a DR 23 score. It's just one of the many internal tools we've developed. This is one of my favourites because it makes my life as an SEO so easy. I can identify a website's link distribution in a clean visual in seconds. My question...is this something you'd like access to?

Does Product Hunt help with SEO? I've written a couple of posts about how the value of a Product Hunt launch isn't so much in the additional signups you get on that one day, but rather the compounding value over time as you get picked up by newsletters and other sites. We did our second launch last week, and I wanted to look at the impact of the launch on some of our key SEO metrics. We got 31 new referring domains, with 5 of them having a domain reputation > 40. The best was tldr.tech at 59. Our organic traffic is already growing pretty fast, so it's hard to tell in the chart below what came from Product Hunt, but I think it had an impact. I'll post more about the launch and what we learned soon, but I thought all the SEO gurus out there would appreciate seeing our raw graphs.

I know the idea of reaching new audiences faster is exciting for business owners, but you’ll save tons of time and money by having your assets optimized. Don’t skip this step. “What would you optimize if you had a minimal budget for CRO?” Product pages. They are the most important pages on your website. Your home page could not be totally dialed in and you may still get away with it. Category pages are important but you may still get away with not having 100% perfect category pages. But product pages are different. If the product page sucks, your conversion rate will heavily reflect that. Every single element on product pages must fight for its life. Because each element has a drastic impact on the final conversion rate. That’s why I recommend paying more attention to product pages than to other pages. So if you have a limited budget, focus on your product pages.
