I don't 100% agree that the consumer 5G didn't deliver. There are use cases in eMBB (and spectral efficiency) and FWA that many of us are benefitting today. Maturity of XR (AR/VR/MR) will come in later stages depending on ecosystem. However, I definitely can agree to the private5G momentum. Mobile-first!!! Last week we spoke to a very (very) large company that are looking at migrating all their staff over to 5G laptops. And according to the attached Dell Technologies Verizon report, they are not alone. Hybrid work and BYOD are some factors that are pushing this change. As the CIO said we talked to - "if we anyway need to invest in security solutions for the 70-80% of the time our staff is NOT in our office, why not try and simplify and use the same solution everywhere, and here the answer is likely to be 5G connectivity as the first approach" https://lnkd.in/dsv5HK3U

Interested to read the TechUK - Top 7 tech priorities for the whichever new Govt come in next (bets are on October General Election in UK). Whilst they are all laudable aims, it is further into the report on page 8 that stands out namely; - £5.69bn pay rise for the British people through reforms to the Apprenticeship Levy - desperately needed and we need to do better as an industry - £2.1bn Ensure the NHS is ready for the future (digitising the NHS/Social care) - tried before but we need to get this right - Reduce the cost of reaching net zero (digitising the National Grid to get good energy data, reducing capital investment by £17.6bn a year!) Same challenges, different public service. I’ve translated for my #police and justice contacts. NB. Not exhaustive comparisons by any stretch, I can think of many more. Please feel free to add. Electronic health records = electronic crime reports / case files etc. Wearable devices that can remotely monitor patients = electronic monitoring (prevention or offender). Integrated Care System collaboration to enable data-sharing = Data sharing between Community Safety Partnerships, MASHs, ROCUs, CJS, etc. Helping digitally excluded people to download and access the #NHS app to self-serve = Helping digitally excluded people to protect themselves from online fraud etc. Outcomes for real people who rely on public services, underpinned by core technologies. It’s got to be about getting the #basics right to allow for true and impactful innovation.

Vodafone's expansion of 5G Standalone networks in the UK could inject a whopping £3 billion annually into the economy, thanks to improved connectivity and efficiency across sectors. Imagine better train journeys, enhanced productivity for remote workers, and significant cost savings for businesses in the transportation sector. With 5G, there are potential productivity gains of £1 billion and 26 million hours saved from decreased delays. An estimated £10 million savings in train delay compensations could be reinvested into vital rail infrastructure. The proposed merger between Vodafone UK and Three UK could pave the way for a massive self-funded infrastructure investment, bringing 5G Standalone to 95% of the population by 2030 and 99% by 2034. As we await the final decision, let's look forward to the enhancements in growth, customer experiences, and competition this merger could bring.
