It was great to be able to connect and share my thoughts and insight for the Connectivity Mix Ecosystem Insight for Connect: Health Tech (https://lnkd.in/eweszqZu) alongside some brilliant other #contributors. A really great example of what we should all be talking about - how we can improve #connectivity and #collaboration amongst ourselves and #ecosystems to the benefit of not just ourselves, but the UK as a whole. #seriesA #venturecapital #ukplc #medtech #digitalhealth #lifesciences #chancellor Ian a pretty damning analysis on the lack of seed and series A funding. Is this cultural? Are we risk averse? Look at markets for tech-the US is the big market , Europe a poor third maybe and the U.K. a tiny part of that. We have the intellect but not the means or incentives to leverage it. Let’s see if the chancellor can walk the walk.

Health Tech Alliance
📕 💬 The Chancellor’s Autumn budget contained many important announcements that will impact the HealthTech Sector. Amongst these are a new 2% growth target for the NHS, a substantial cash injection for DHSC and the reintroduction of the Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund. Together the announcements made promise to enhance patient care, reduce waiting times, and support healthcare innovation. Our Founder and CEO, Nick Lansman, offered his thoughts on yesterday’s budget, which were featured in Digital Health: "The Health Tech Alliance welcomes today’s Budget announcement of increased spending in health services, including an additional £22.6 billion for the Department of Health and a £3.1 billion increase in capital investment. The new 2% productivity growth target for the NHS will be supported by critical funding for surgical hubs and diagnostics, which will be key for Labour’s plans to deliver 40,000 appointments per week. We also welcome the increased focus on using technology to improve public services and investment in research and development, including the Life Sciences Innovation Manufacturing Fund which will help to address the uptake of innovation in the NHS. With hospital backlogs at nearly 8 million and the 10 year plan for the NHS early in development, this funding is certainly a step in the right direction for improving patient outcomes and getting the NHS back on its feet. Whilst there is a long journey ahead to get the NHS fit again, today’s announcements are the shot in the arm that the service needs. We are looking forward to working collaboratively with DHSC, NHSE and industry to drive forward the role that health technologies play in ensuring quality patient care within the NHS."

Last week the Office for Life Sciences (OLS) published a report, ‘Unlocking the potential of UK HealthTech’ (delivered by KPMG), seeking to better understand the economic footprint of the industry: https://lnkd.in/eN8cbpK6 It’s great to see OLS recognise that current definitions and approaches don’t necessarily reflect the reality and rapidly evolving nature of the health tech market. Some interesting findings from the report include: 👩💻 A formal redefinition of UK HealthTech is required to encapsulate emerging technologies and reduce ambiguity surrounding what does and does not constitute HealthTech activity. 👩💻 There is a lack of granular information pertaining to healthtech SMEs available to the public. 👩💻 Due to the rapid pace of technological change in the UK HealthTech sector, it would be valuable to conduct an annual assessment of the HealthTech innovation ecosystem. 👩💻 Access to this information would better allow government to optimise innovation within the sector, monitor the impact of technological changes, and ensure that interventions are appropriately directed toward addressing the health care sector’s current challenges. These findings, among others in the report, will ring true for people in the digital health ecosystem. Definitions of 'health tech' vary across the NHS and the UK more broadly, often meaning people talk at cross-purposes. The health tech sector will play a critical role in delivering the government’s health mission. A detailed understanding of the health of this market in the UK, including a segmentation of the sector according to the type of digital health tool provided, will be key to determining how it is best placed to help. Yesterday's NHS waiting times figures demonstrate just how far there is still to go to clear the backlog. Our CEO & co-founder Jacob Haddad spoke to Times Radio about the urgent need for staff to be given tech that streamlines waiting lists and improves patient care. He said: "Today's figures demonstrate the critical need for a whole systems approach to healthcare, it's not just about minor tweaks; it's about fundamentally rethinking how care is delivered and ensuring the system is joined up." Jacob also emphasised the importance of leveraging communication platforms to reduce waiting lists and improve efficiency. "By contacting patients with simple questions, we've found that many can be removed from waiting lists because they no longer need treatment." ABHI
🤝 ABHI Partners with Imperial to Present a Transformative Plan for HealthTech Growth 🚀 HealthTech holds immense promise, yet its full potential in the UK remains largely untapped. With strategic stimulus and support, our sector can drive significant economic growth while enhancing healthcare delivery across the NHS. Earlier this year, we were privileged to collaborate with Lord Sainsbury’s Gatsby Charitable Foundation on a transformative initiative. Partnering with Imperial College London, via their Centre for Sectoral Economic Performance at Imperial College London, we explored bold policies aimed at unlocking HealthTech as a key engine for UK economic expansion. This work culminated in the launch of a comprehensive report this week. The report highlights HealthTech’s £13bn Gross Value Added (GVA) in the UK, equating it to biopharma. However, capital and skills shortages, compounded by Brexit, are constraining growth. The report proposes targeted tax incentives, regulatory reforms, and closer collaboration with the NHS to accelerate innovation adoption. Key initiatives include: ⭐Streamlined regulatory processes ⭐Tax reforms to boost R&D ⭐Support for early-stage companies ⭐Expansion of ABHI’s international accelerator programme to drive exports. Together, these policies will enhance efficiency and innovation, bolster investment, and create 50,000 new skilled jobs over the next five years. Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS described the strategy as “a pragmatic and achievable route to building a HealthTech sector that will be the lifeblood of a reinvigorated NHS.” We look forward to working with senior government stakeholders to make this vision a reality. Read the full report here 👇 https://lnkd.in/ePpRzkAv With a huge thanks to all of the report authors Richard Devereaux Phillips, Peter Bannister, Andrew Davies, Daniel Green, Neil Mesher & James Moore.
