It was a great honor to return to MedTech Europe's CEO Summit yesterday to share our perspectives on the decarbonisation pathway for MedTech.    A few of our key messages: The climate crisis is a health crisis and so it is imperative that the healthcare sector does their part to reduce impact on the planet for the good of patients everywhere. Sustainability action is not only a moral duty, but also a sound business decision. Taking action can provide a competitive advantage for faster moving MedTech companies with a more competitive positioning in tenders, increased supply chain resilience, and (often) reduced operational costs. But it will not be possible to achieve Net Zero impact alone - #MedTech companies need to collaborate with peers and the broader #healthcare ecosystem to overcome barriers to decarbonisation and deliver impact at scale.   Many thanks to Oliver Bisazza and Sigrid Linher for inviting me and our climate & sustainability in healthcare experts, Elia Tziambazis and Miranda Hadfield, to lead this energizing discussion with MedTech leaders.

Riding the wave of Capital Markets and Funds: How Private Equity Funds Leverage M&A for Outsize Returns Private equity (PE) funds are increasingly relying on add-on acquisitions to fuel faster growth and deliver better performance. In 2023, add-ons accounted for 70% of total PE deals, up from 57% in 2017, reflecting a strategic shift in response to evolving economic conditions. In an era where traditional growth strategies like operational efficiency and financial engineering are less viable, PE funds are turning to transformational tactics. Add-on acquisitions offer a way to capture synergies across revenue, costs, and capital, enabling portfolio companies to expand their market footprint, achieve economies of scale, and optimize operations. To execute successful add-on strategies, PE funds should focus on five key levers: 1. Front-load acquisitions: Acquiring add-ons early in the holding period maximizes time for integration and synergy realization. 2. Prioritize value drivers: Identifying 3-5 key areas—such as cross-selling or operational consolidation—early on sets a clear path for success. 3. Build a repeatable process: Creating a structured, stage-gate approach to integration ensures efficiency and scalability. 4. Track performance rigorously: Establishing KPIs and leveraging cloud-based solutions can enhance transparency and guide decision-making. 5. Develop internal M&A capabilities: Investing in skills training and continuous learning positions teams for sustained success in future deals. When executed effectively, add-ons allow PE funds to generate higher returns and increased valuations, while also providing talent mobility and professional growth within portfolio companies.
