Just reflecting on the sessions we had at #pmolearn a few weeks ago as we prepare to add them to the House of PMO member’s library. The session on sponsors was well received for many #pmo professionals because it is an area many are working on to improve. This simple question is a good one for the PMO to start with - and once the answers start to materialise, the next steps to focus on devising support and associated services to help sponsors where they need it the most. 🚀 PMI has officially revealed the details of the PMI-ACP exam update 🚀 The long-awaited changes to the PMI-ACP certification exam have now been officially announced and will take effect from 8th November 2024. These updates ensure that the certification remains aligned with evolving industry standards and the latest agile practices. The details are now available on the official PMI website. Connecting PMO With the Business - pre-read / questions to think about? The APM PMO Conference on 11th July is discussing the Big PMO Adoption. Before anyone is going to think about a big PMO yet alone build or fund one, there has to be a business need. There is only so much mileage arguing business need based on a PMO telling us how great and important their services are. Many already realise this, and PMOs are already helping projects and programmes realise greater value through effective selection and prioritisation in Project Portfolio Management - not just though yet more effectiveness and efficiency. But there is more. There is ample opportunity for PMOs to support an operation of strategy delivery. We can evidence this as for many organisations, no such function exists, and also, we have plenty of evidence that strategy delivery is not done very well. However - strategy delivery is about more than projects, and at the conference we will probe 3 areas a PMO will need to get involved in to support strategy delivery. Table 1 Connection to strategy: Question do we: a. have cascaded objectives with accountable people that are creating projects to deliver, or b. are we more woolly, and have projects trying to find objectives to support? We are looking to understand from our audience whether they are purpose and objectives driven - or are tactically supporting projects which might help strategic objectives. Is there clarity of how strategy cascades and how responses combine and perform? Do you support strategy more widely? Should a PMO look to "Connect with the Business" by supporting strategy delivery - it will wither have to latch onto what already exists, or build this framework. And to be crystal clear - strategy delivery is more than just projects...and we need to think BIG PMO - not just big PMO.
