'Marketing secrets of the pub lunch' There are plenty of things that separate good marketing copy from bad. But one that’s often overlooked is confidence. When you’ve got it, you write better. A bit of confidence helps you run with stuff that’s personal to you and what you’re selling. And when you do that, it singles you out - as you avoid bland, cliché-filled copy. As ever, examples are better than my blabbering, so consider this: On holiday a while back, as we pootled around the Suffolk countryside in the rain, I saw a couple of pub chalkboards advertising lunch. One said this: ‘We cook the finest ingredients and are passionate about our food and our service.” Zero confidence – two whopping clichés and nothing to set them apart from anyone else. The other said this: ‘Pop in for one of Val’s famous homemade pies – you’re lucky, you’ve caught her on a good day!’ Now (if I hadn’t already stuffed my face with fish and chips) which pub would I choose? The second, of course – the copy singles the place out, as you’re not gonna get Val’s homemade pie anywhere else. Especially as it’s one of her good days (nice bit of FOMO). And it promises charm and personality, as opposed to the grim functionality of a place that’s ‘passionate about food’. You see, when you write with confidence you have the guts to say things that others don’t. There’s a massive step that 90% of client-facing people miss in their pitching that builds trust and helps you close. It’s ‘summarising’ what their client has said and what they want. Here’s how it works… As you know, great questions are key to discovering the outcome your client wants, what’s stopping them getting it and how you can help. The mistake a lot of people make is moving straight from there to the pitch. It’s critical that first you summarise what you’ve heard about the client’s situation and where they want to get to out loud.     The reason people miss this is that it’s not a natural way to communicate. You don’t do it when having coffee with a friend, but commercially it’s vital. It shows the client you’ve listened, gives them clarity on what they want, and gets you both on the same page and in partnership to solve the problems they’ve outlined to you. Use phrases to bridge into a summary like: ‘What I’ve heard is…’ ‘Let me just make sure I’ve understood the situation.’ ‘So the problem we need to solve is…’ Effective summarising of your client’s situation and the outcomes they want shows that you understand, and it gives them confidence that you can move them to the outcome they want. #clientrelationships #clienttrust #salestips #salestraining #sales #businesscoaching

getting out of your own head and into that of your ideal clients is hard often we get so stuck in our own thinking... and we assume many things about our ideal client... when you review and analyse what people are ACTUALLY searching for, it can take the guessing away. every month you should be getting emails about what words people typed into Google to find your website. 👉Are these words you typically use to describe your services? 👉If you asked a client what they would search for? 👉Can you integrate these words into your content more maybe blogs or edit your exisiting messaging to help Google send more eyes your way? 😍 Love to know what words people searched this month to find you. Writing B2B content, it’s easy to get caught up in corporate jargon, dry language and content that sounds like it’s written by a robot (sadly, some of it is!) 🤖 But remember, you’re writing for humans, not machines. Humans want personality and content that they can relate to and connect with. Injecting personality and humour into your B2B content can work wonders, helping you connect with your audience, stand out from the competition, and make the most complex topics more engaging. Telling a story or including a witty remark or a joke can go a long way in keeping readers engaged. Adding personality doesn’t mean sacrificing professionalism. It’s all about striking the right balance – engaging while positioning yourself as knowledgeable and trustworthy. Want to write like a human? Recently I had a freelance copywriter ask how I pitched myself to clients. "Do you call yourself a copywriter... Full-stack marketer... Consultant? ...I'm having a hard time conveying my value to them. I'm not having much luck". I'll make a post in the near future about presenting value to potential clients... It's MORE important right now to touch on the 'luck' belief that he had. I want to make this very clear... If you're a copywriter, marketer, or freelancer in general... There is NO such thing as luck. 'Luck' is a byproduct of hard work & skill... ...not good fortune. If you're struggling with landing clients... ODDS are you DON'T have a skill worthy of being valued (yet). It might sound harsh... It is. But it's true. Too many freelancers are entitled nowadays. Clients who have deep pockets look to hire assets. Not expenses. And if you don't have the skill to be an immediate asset. You're not gonna have 'luck' finding jobs. You need to uplevel your skill, fast. 99/100 business owners WILL ask for wins, samples, client feedback... ...or even ask you to test-run a project for them before you're hired. Which means, they'll know within minutes if your skill is worth the time, money, and effort they put into outsourcing their work. It's NOT luck... It's being undeniable in someone else's eyes. Stop expecting luck to hit your doorstep - work for it instead. If you focus on sharpening your skill, everyday. Luck follows... So do clients & money. Keith ✌

GOOGLE LOVES AN INTERACTIVE WEBSITE... and so do your website visitors too. A great way to make your website more engaging and interactive is to add a short video. Video helps communicate the benefits of your services to a client in a quick and easy to understand format - not only that, video helps build relationships, tell your story and show the benefits of what you do in a way that your client can understand in a few seconds. Video is also great because it can be watched and enjoyed on the move - it can say a lot in a very short space of time, and be easily consumed by your website visitors. 😎 Keep videos short, make your message brief, easy to understand and focus on the benefits your provide for the client. Don't try to explain everything, remember that your video and website for that matter are just the first steps in the customer journey. 👉 For example, car manufactures use video on their websites to create excitement and desire for a particular model. Their videos focus on a few key benefits to the potential client, then finish with a simple call to action to either leave their email address to receive a brochure or book a test drive. The video is just leading a website visitor to the next step in the customer journey of booking a test drive, they aren't trying to sell everything in the video, just create desire, excitement and move the visitor a step closer to buying. I know this all to well as I've been looking at new cars myself for the past few weeks, I even went to a dealership in Edinburgh on Saturday after watching a video for the new Genesis GV70, the video did its job and took me to the next stage in the customer journey. Google has said in its Helpful Content Update and White Paper that it is looking for websites with video.
