You're preparing for an informational interview. How can you craft questions that uncover valuable insights?
Asking about the day-to-day, what actually goes on, is most certainly core to uncovering, and understanding, valuable insights from your potential new employer. To do this, ask them about their favourite day in the last week or so; what made it so good, and how often do they have those days.

Here's how you can give constructive feedback without demoralizing the recipient.
I’ve always found that vagueness, in anything I do, usually comes back to bite me! And I know when I’ve been vague. I get that feeling after a meeting of ‘urgh, why didn’t I just tell them X and suggest Y and Z as solutions instead of nod and agree….’ So I’ve found a neat trick. Have a word with myself before a meeting. ‘Helen, no vagueness today, thanks. It doesn’t serve anyone.’ And also; 1. Acknowledge that being vague with an issue usually doesn’t lead to comprehensive and decisive change. 😏 2. Be prepared to provide ideas and solutions. 💡 3. Be okay with the fact that not all solutions will be right for you and them. And that is okay. Better to know this now than be vague, agree to lead a project and then fail.

Here's how you can give constructive feedback without demoralizing the recipient.
In my experience, I feel ‘dialogue’ can’t be WhatsApp conversations, or Google Chat or SMS. Human beings like to see body language, which is limited via video calls or words on a screen. Human beings like to belong. And converse. With actual words. Spoken words. And open communication with words, a dialogue, whilst taking a walk, or over coffee, is usually far more beneficial to all than a video call or a ‘dialogue’ where you are waiting for the blue ticks and the ‘oh, they’re typing…..so I’ll just wait for their response’. 💬 I’ve found that if it’s a tricky conversation, going for a walk so you’re side by side, not looking at their eyes, can often provide the most meaningful dialogues. It’s a more open discussion.

Here's how you can give constructive feedback without demoralizing the recipient.
If it’s just criticism, this isn’t feedback. If it’s just feedback, it’s not a discussion about solutions. Your intent in your contribution to this discussion is surely always to move things forward… in a positive way. So what I find works is: - Deliver feedback, with honesty and transparency - Discuss what can be learned from this feedback from both their and your experience - Agree on some actions that will happen, and by when, and who’s accountable for delivery of the actions
