Speaking to a candidate in the retail industry working as an Amazon Marketplace Lead for a renowned Mobile Phone brand revealed insights into the challenges of their particularly competitive market segment. The candidate mentioned that due to the intense competition on Amazon, their role is now under review. In light of the current market volatility and the sluggish growth of retail/eCommerce sectors, it raises the question of whether individuals with broader category exposure are better positioned to navigate market slowdowns successfully. An alarming reminder of the challenges we face in the recruitment market! CityA.M.'s latest report shows that over 400 UK recruitment companies went bust last year 🤯😩. Some of which were boutique SME's & Start-Ups, others were prestigious enterprises which you would've never predicted. 🚫 Recruiters- when do you decide not to work with a client? 🤔 For me, these are all major 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🙅‍♀️ 🗑 No specific job brief (Can you not just send me CVs??) 🗑 Pushes as long as possible rebate (Always the recruiter's fault, right!) 🗑 Long-winded processes 🗑 Too busy to schedule a proper meeting or briefing call What are your turn-offs when it comes to a new client? A different type of post from me & one that I hope will give all candidates (current as well as future) some helpful insight & support when interviewing for current as well as future roles, especially given how tough the Talent market is at the moment👇 The role of a Talent/Recruitment professional isn't just to get candidates jobs (Although I'm sure 99% of people will think this is the only thing Talent/Recruitment professionals do but that's a completely separate conversation🙄) We're here to provide tips & tricks & support on how best to position yourself when interviewing for a role so without further a do, take a look & if the below helps just 1 person secure their next role then I consider that a success🥳 INTERVIEW DO'S ✅ AND DON'TS ❌ DO: ✅ Arrive a few minutes early ⏲ (up to five, no need to get there any earlier or else they may wonder why you have nothing better to do 😂) ✅ Read over the job description and company website beforehand so you have an idea of what you're getting yourself into ✅ Practice giving a quick overview of your background and experience. Don't recite your resume word for word, but you should be able to talk about what you do day-to-day and what sets you apart! ✅ Come prepared with questions to ask about the company and role (if you can't come up with anything, they may wonder if you are really that interested) ✅ Write them a thank you note/email after the interview thanking them for their time 💌 DON'T: ❌ Ask about money 💸 They're trying to get to know you and see if you would be a good fit, and bringing up money can make it seem like that's all you care about! Let them be the ones to bring it up if they want to down the line. ❌ Emphasize the perks over the job. If they ask you why you're interested in working there and you just say the flexibility and PTO, they may wonder how interested you are in the actual work 😂 ❌ Speak poorly of your current company/coworkers. I've talked to plenty of candidates who want a new job because they're in a toxic work environment and I totally get that. However, the people interviewing you don't know you or your situation, so complaining about your boss can make them think you're negative and not a team player. Knowing how to interview is a gamechanger! The interview phase 100% determines if you get the job or not, so message me if you want help navigating the process!

Ever been tempted by a counter-offer? It's a scenario many face when they decide to move on. You've landed a new role, you're ready to hand in your notice, and suddenly, your current employer presents a tempting counter-offer to stay. But here's something to consider: According to UK statistics, a staggering 80% of candidates who accept counter-offers leave within six months. Why? 9 months into my role at Retail Insight and things are in full swing! 🤠so I'm taking time to do a bit of a gushy post 😀   One thing that keeps standing out to me is the discovery of just how impactful our product offering is. We say we're all about Optimised Insights, but what does this actually mean? This week I caught up with my colleagues Melanie Adelhardt and Daniel Taylor to chat more about our InventoryInsight product, and I’m glad I did. Picture the scene: your favourite biscuits 🍪 (custard creams for me!) or your preferred fresh produce are either out of stock or swapped with a substitute in your online order.  But why? 🤔 We found that managing stock within the store, which is constantly shifting and frequently requires manual updates, is an exhausting and expensive task. In fact, 60% of inventory audits are inaccurate – 60%!!! So, how are we helping to ease the burden on our store colleagues? 💡 Our very clever data team pull data from a variety of relevant sources (sales, store formats, product types to name a few) and put them into a machine-learning model. From my understanding (though Dan T will probably correct me if I’m wrong) it’s continuously watching, assessing and predicting. It’s taking not only the time and labour burden off the stores, but it’s also helping to increase profits and even helping our clients plan for their normal stock ups and downs.  The return on investment here is fantastic. The team told me this week that if stores fixed just one issue, something we fondly call ‘Phantom Inventory’, we can help them recover up to 8% of sales. We even have a tool that you can calculate just how much this will benefit; https://lnkd.in/eFr_PTca Ultimately, this leads to a much-improved customer experience, more products available at the right times and happy shoppers like me getting their custard creams!  Not only is this product configurable for our clients, it unlocks accuracy and efficiency in all other processes that can help our clients improve even further. According to the Sick Leave Report 2024 from PeopleHR, sick leave is up by 55% since before the pandemic. The report gathered data from over 1775 small and medium-sized businesses and compared the results with previous years. Interestingly, recruitment firms rank near the bottom of the list in terms of sick days, while agriculture comes near the top.
