Prohibitive EV charging infrastructure costs can be readily addressed through our partnership with Horizon Energy Infrastructure. Objective, future-proof solutions combined with cost effective finance solutions can make the 2030 ICE ban a realistic proposition.

Great piece from City AM' Guy Taylor Experts say the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)’s private sales data, which is the most widely used metric in the UK automotive industry industry, is “flawed” and “inaccurate.” They argue consumers are increasingly buying EVs using salary sacrifice schemes, which allow employees to deduct a monthly sum from their pay to lease EVs at far lower cost. “How individuals purchase EVs is often overlooked, due to the way data is represented, especially in the figures from the SMMT,” Fiona Howarth, chief executive of Octopus Electric Vehicles, told City A.M. “Let’s be clear, salary sacrifice cars are on the driveways of typical drivers – they’re used for the school run, weekly shop and family trips, so why should they be counted as fleet cars?” she said. Quentin Willson, the motoring journalist and founder of the campaign group FairCharge, said: “We need to capture accurate end user data to get a clearer picture of the split between private and fleet. This report from the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, supported by Zapmap, is well worth a read. Here are some key takeaways... ⚡️ The UK is pushing 60,000 EV chargers - Having hit 50,000 last October, it's an impressive achievement, although rapid chargers do make up a smaller proportion of that number. ⚡️ Destination charging takes the top spot - 46% of the UK's public charge points are destination chargers. Street charging takes a 37% share. ⚡️ Rural areas are falling behind - As charge point installation intensifies, we need to figure out how we can extend this infrastructure to more rural areas. Destination charging may help here, as well as innovative ideas like GeoPura's green hydrogen charging stations we've seen in Scotland. To my mind, it's clear that there is more consumer friction in the early to mid-mainstream EV audience than key players imagined, and I would like to see a concerted, positive marketing communications campaign to highlight how EVs are just better. To note, not a campaign to sell individual EVs, but to sell emobility. This year, the sector has been in response mode, not in proactive positivity mode: responding to the negative narratives of the mainstream media, rather than on the front foot, defining the terrain of EVs being better. EVs are exactly that: better vehicles. They are clearly better for clean air and climate, and they are better on cost across lifetime ownership. They are a better driving experience. So, we need to build out what I call the 'ideas infrastructure' for emobility, to work on that tricky territory of hearts and minds. The cars are there. The charging is increasingly there. The consumers are not there. At the moment, there is no concerted campaign, supported by government, industry bodies and OEMs to project a positive narrative. This will be my focus for 2025. EVA England publishes EV Drivers’ Manifesto https://lnkd.in/ezidbxhv EVA England has launched a manifesto that identifies the areas it feels are essential to address as the uptake of electric vehicles grows. The EV Drivers’ Manifesto 2024 has been structured around the five key pillars: 1. Fairer charging costs 2. Liberate charging provision 3. Lower insurance premiums 4. Enforce accessibility standards 5. Democratise EV uptake and drive demand Despite hugely encouraging numbers in uptake, EV sales remain concentrated in higher income brackets, says EVA England. Targeted, cost-effective schemes should be implemented to enable lower-income households to take part in the green transition, for example by mandating salary sacrifice schemes, and offering highly targeted social leasing schemes and 0% loans already implemented in other countries. James Court, chief executive of EVA England, said: “This manifesto puts EV drivers themselves at the heart of future policy, and shows the way forward for the winner of the next general election. 92% of drivers are overwhelmingly satisfied with the EV experience, making the future of sustainable mobility such an exciting prospect. “The manifesto is a blueprint to maintaining this positive outlook, presenting solutions to ensuring our charging infrastructure continues to grow and meet all needs, and that EV costs allow the transition to be fair and equal. 🙏Small plea for help from those who know their EV data🙏 It's the third month for which BEV share of vehicle registrations is above 20%, with the full year share expected to be 19% at year end. Not bad (and somewhat heartening to those of us who wish to supply energy to these vehicles), but this will both 'achieve the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate' for the year and yet will obviously miss the '22%' headline target. Why? I get that there is fine detail to how the target is applied to small manufacturers and some other crediting mechanisms available. I also think it's important that this scheme is equally firm and pragmatic to the needs of those manufacturers transitioning their products to electric powertrains. But - I can't find a good reference to explain specifically why 19% may be sufficient to hit the 22% ZEV target for 2024. Anyone care to help me out? 🙏🙏 🙏

With price parity (between Electric Vehicles and Petrol/Diesel cars) around the proverbial corner - what are you doing to prepare for the increase in EV uptake? Drivers are already switching back to company car / salary sacrifice schemes in droves with 2 out of 3 fleet vehicles being a plug in. For those who think 'it's not the time' - think again - look at the numbers and be prepared. These drivers need somewhere to charge and a reliable cost effective solution when not at home. This week in EVs... Sales of EVs are surging ahead for corporate buyers (fleets being responsible for 5/6 of the 10% year on year growth in EV sales) and in the used car market (up 71% year on year). Both these markets don't have the big price premium that private buyers of new EVs face. As our research (https://lnkd.in/eBhtai4p) showed, this price premium creates a feeling of risk. This risk seems bigger now with the squeeze on household incomes, and with higher electricity prices since Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine. The sustained media misinformation plays on this feeling of risk. Take away the higher upfront cost (which everyone expects to happen in a couple of years) and perceptions of risk will decline and misinformation will be much less effective. Subsidies or VAT cuts (as proposed by the SMMT) could be one approach to address concerns over current EV take-up but evidence from Italy and elsewhere shows fiddling with adding and taking away subsidies creates more uncertainty and hinders sustained growth. So while we wait for prices to come down and lower cost models to be available, the best thing for government to do is to properly back a strategic comms approach to address misinformation. And the UK EV market is ranked as mature - only just, but it's there. After all the bad things the politicians were saying during the recent election about technology in this country that's got to be a plus. Also it rates the Total Cost of Ownership for an EV as now on a par with an ICE vehicle. Well worth a read to get a wider perspective of EV fleets around the world, including our own. #electricvehicles #fleetmanagement #decarbonisation

Genuinely remarkable things happening in the EV market. This is from our latest story: "A raft of new [BEV] models [drove] the strongest growth this year, up 24.5 per cent to reach a 20.7 per cent share of the market," the SMMT said. "UK new car buyers now have more than 125 different BEV models to choose from - an uplift of 38 per cent over the last 10 months. While it remains the case that the average BEV has a higher upfront cost than an ICE equivalent, widening choice and huge manufacturer discounting mean that around one in five BEV models now has a lower purchase price than the average petrol or diesel car, especially for buyers able to take advantage of schemes such as salary sacrifice." Just as predicted, economies of scale and policy levers are driving down the upfront cost of EVs and drivers are responding. The Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate should now be comfortably met for this year and there are good reasons to think the trend will continue.
